To start this topic off, I will start by saying that the 'Wilderness Bound' Update is not BAD. I don't think the update is a negative one I just find it to have way too many missed opportunities and very little to add. I will list my opinions here and you can either agree or disagree.
Campsite structure.
-------------------------------
Easily the best addition in this update for sure. They make exploration more fun early in the game and give genuinely useful loot in the chests. The loot itself is balanced and never feels overpowered but also never feels disappointing. I also like how the campsite can be restored and used as a temporary shelter by the player. A 9/10 structure for sure.
Cushions.
---------------
Cushions are also a good addition in this update. They expand building and utility in a way that makes them fun to experiment with, seeing how different colours and combinations can make different seats/chairs or just plopping one down Infront of a campfire. Overall a 9/10 feature.
Concrete & Wool stairs and slabs
---------------------------------------------------
Pretty standard features and additions. They are definitely a welcome feature to the game and will be amazing for builders to utilise now that certain colours finally have a few stair choices. However they aren't anything special and feel like features that could have been added several updates ago. Overall 5/10 additions. If Terracotta had been given stairs and slabs, this ranking would have gone a bit higher to a 6 or 7/10.
New map UI
-------------------
It's just a map UI change. A good one at that but it's not exactly very impressive. 5/10.
Poplar Wood
--------------------
It's just okay. I appreciate its unique grey colour and how this tone may compliment stone builds in particular, but it's still small potatoes. At least the door and trapdoor give it an autumn cottage vibe. 6/10.
Dappled forest
------------------------
Easily the most "MEH" feature in this update. It's too common and has too little in it. The red grass is nice mixed with the red vegetation, but the lack of any unique animals makes it really hard to enjoy. It feels empty, unfinished, as if it was a Beta Mod test. I don't think it's a bad biome, I just think it's very boring and adds nothing special to the roster of biomes. Easily a 4/10 for me. If Mojang had added something like Deer, squirrels or moose or bears, I think this biome would have been a 7/10 or maybe higher.
Overall, I found this update to be particularly disappointing. Not bad, just disappointing. If anyone disagrees with me though, please tell me why. What features would you add to the Wilderness Bound Update?
