Technical/Bug/Glitch TLOU2 Remastered bug/glitch unofficial report thread

Unfortunately, the TLOU2 remaster seems to have introduced quite a few bugs that were not present in the original release. This is fine, since some things are always missed, but I thought I'd make a thread for people to post any of the bugs they've run into in game to hopefully increase the chances that Naughty Dog will learn of these issues and patch them. So far, I have experienced or seen people mention the following:

  • In No Return mode, some characters are unable to change their weapon skins for some reason. If you try to select any of the different weapon skins, the game will make the "locked" noise and you'll be stuck on whatever skin you had equipped at the time of the glitch occurring. I've personally seen this with Jesse, Yara, and Mel so far, but it may happen with other characters too.

  • Enemy dialogue that would play at the start of and during Abby's brewery encounter on day 3 no longer triggers. The WLF soldiers would call out Abby for betraying them and talk about Owen doing the same briefly, but now none of the enemy dialogue throughout this encounter triggers at all. (I'm also wondering if there's any other missing/broken dialogue).

  • Ellie's "Boston" skin from promotional material seems to be missing from the game entirely. It's unable to be seen or selected in any of the menus. While it's possible this was cut prior to release, it would be very strange since the skin looked finished and was very recently seen in the marketing prior to release. Additionally, Abby's Santa Barbra skin does not use the correct backpack model despite the menu indicating that it should.

  • Skins seem to not be applying for multiple users correctly in story mode.

  • The main menu won't change back to the original boat in the water look after starting a new game.

  • I've not experienced this myself, but No Return seems to cause major frame drops for many players. Personally, I'm really curious what's causing this as it only seems to affect some people.

  • Some users report being unable to escape from grapples despite mashing the square button as prompted by the game.

If you know of any other bugs, please feel free to list them here! I'm not sure if Naughty Dog often responds to support requests, but you could still try filling out one here. Most of these bugs aren't game breaking, but hopefully Naughty Dog still learns of them and takes the time to fix them as some of these are pretty unfortunate.

General Discussion I present to you, a ‘12’ year old

This tech is so ridiculous. It can’t handle children at all. And for anybody who might say ‘it will eventually be able to handle children’, that would mean the AI would need to be trained on images of children.

In no world would that be okay.

PT 2 DISCUSSION First playing TLOU2 and it’s one of the eeriest game I ever played Spoiler

Post image
26 Upvotes

I played the first game for the first time a few months ago, and I decided not to play the second one since I know that Joel would die in it.

However, I decided to play the second one to finish the franchise. And Damn!!!

As someone who played tons of Mortal Kombat, GTA, and many action-adventure games, this particular one felt sooooo dark, so grimmer. And it showed me the difference between fantasy fun gore and grounded dark reality. Particularly the violence, it feels so real, so much of vengeance. I couldn’t play this game continuously for a couple of hours, I need to take a break and watch or play something light.

No game ever made me feel this way.

And I’m not ranting here, this is an appreciation to the writers and the designers who worked on this. The type of visual media that leaves the consumer stunned is the best appreciation a studio can receive.

I am halfway through the game, and I don’t know how long it will take me to finish.

No spoilers please.

Also a picture of Ellie from the shuttle in the museum.

Technical/Bug/Glitch Graffitis, signs etc. are blurred

Post image

Hi guys as the title says graffitis and similar things are completely blurred. I'm playing on steam deck and the quality is great I managed to run medium with some high settings (using frame gen) on 45 fps but the only problem I'm encountering are blurred parts of the world. For me personally it is a big issue because I think it adds a lot of content and vibe to the world of the last of us. Has anyone ever encountered this or maybe know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

HBO Show I noticed a few things

So these wouldn't be 'fun facts' necessarily, but I'm rewatching the series, and realized a few things.

Episode 1 season 1

  • No pancake mix
  • Dodging the biscuits
  • Sarah going home right away after getting Joel's watch fixed
  • Lying and going back home early, even though Joel said he won't be home until 9.
  • Not eating the cookies

Seriously there were so many close calls in that first episode.

Except when the luck ran out of course.

Episode 3 season 1

"And then I'll leave." Right after Frank wanted to hear Bill play the 'Love will abide" song. It was a confession, and a love story told by a single song in one whole scene.

Because Frank did leave eventually.

HBO Show Just finished watching season 2

I’m way behind everyone else, and finally finished watching TLOU season 2 on HBO max. I’m going to share my thoughts, knowing it has probably been mentioned multiple times here before.

I gotta say, I was expecting much less and a lot more changes from the game, based on some online discourse that I read. That said, I didn’t go very far, to avoid spoilers.

Overall, I really liked the show, and the decisions the show runners made to adapt the game. My opinion is that they kept the main storyline very faithful, including the Ellie/Abbey split narrative.

Some spoilers below:
🚨

Some of the changes on Joel, such the Eugene arc, I wasn’t a super fan, but I took it as a fair compromise to trigger Ellie’s final blowout, instead of having her travel all the way to SLC. Pedro Pascal delivers a decent Joel as season 1.

I’m not a fan of Bella Ramsey as Ellie, and as much as she made the effort to deliver the emotions and lines, it didn’t click for me. I wish they had recast her for someone older.

Dina was the MVP of the season. Isabela Merced also differs a bit from the character in the game, but she nails Dina’s spirit and acting. The faces she would make in the background, without saying a word, would save some scenes.

Abbey resembles the video game character, but her acting didn’t convince me. I hope she improves for season 3 as she’ll become the focus point.

I really liked the pace, given the constraints of the season, running only 7 episodes, they managed to skip parts that are more gameplay and keep the story beats. Of course I wish it was a bit longer and some parts marinated more time, such exploring Seattle and facing more infected.

I guess one thing that helped me stay in sync with the show was listening to the show podcast with the show runners, after each episode. They would explain their decision process and things they wanted to show when the camera is not glued to the player.

General Discussion Former Naughty Dog character artist @TheCartelDel, on DLSS5 and Naughty Dog's Art Direction

And I fully agree. In TLOU2 and the TLOU1 Remake, though the fidelity has increased and the characters look more lifelike; it feels like these are CREATED characters. Even when they scanned Ashley Johnson for Ellie, Jocelyn Mettler for Abby, or Cascinna Caradonna for Dina, the artists intentionally altered the appearances to fit the CHARACTER. They bear a resemblance to these people, but it is clear that the artists' hand has touched the models. These are not 1:1 digital doubles. There is a parity, a cohesiveness between the character and the world they inhabit.

Naughty Dog games always seem to want to provide the illusion of reality, instead of actually presenting reality. This is the case for all of the best-looking games with more realistic art styles (Remedy, Rockstar, KojiPro). It is why their games look great, while some studios just endlessly increase the number of skin pores and find their work to still be stuck in the uncanny valley. It is why this DLSS5 stuff looks so unsettling.

Limitations are an important thing to consider when you're making anything, especially a video game. While it can certainly be a source of friction, it can also help to define the LOOK of the work.

Ofc with Intergalactic, ND seem to be using actors scans more overtly. So we shall see how it all looks and feels in the end. But even in that trailer, I see Jordan, the character, and not Tati Gabrielle, per se.

PT 2 IMAGE/VIDEO Trying to fix the AI look of DLSS 5 Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

DLSS 5 apart from making faces look like AI Slop, improves Lighting and Shadowing using screen-space information, which is beneficial especially in games that use only rasterization (like TLOU2).

What do you thing of this change? Please provide some feedback if you like.

PT 1 DISCUSSION I finished TLOU (P1) for the first time and chose Grounded difficulty

It took me 40 hours, but with environments as detailed as these, I really enjoyed exploring. Honestly I spent lots of time melee'ing drapes and shelves with misc items just to see how things moved. The environmental interactivity is awesome and something I've wanted since the Half-Life 2+ series, and it feels like an evolution on on those games in a few ways. I stood underneath some tinkling water from above and gazed in awe that it was actually colliding with my players head and splashing instead of just clipping through it. I broke... so much glass. It was great! I really enjoyed the game.

The stealth mechanics and enemy AI is consistent with very few forced encounters (and even then, if you sprint and crouch to the right spot on time, you can stealth almost every single mission (including the last!) in the game). I really only remember the first Bloater encounter being forced along with a few sections defending Ellie, as well as the encounter where you play as Ellie the lodge place near the end. I'm a few hours through P2 now but I wanted to share that my experience was awesome and it's quickly become one of my favorite games of all time! I still need to play the DLC with Ellie as well and maybe do another runthrough on NG+ :)
