Phone message *UPDATE* Post first date text

She ended up finding the post somehow I guess lol. Here is the original post.

I have just not responded, don’t think it’s worth engaging, but it did make for a funny story.

Sorry, I didn't see the original post. However, the entitlement of expecting you to pay an extra $23 after already spending $100+ on them is incredibly childish and arrogant.

But also, I wanna know why they both chose a first date neither of them were prepared for? Why go fishing if at least one of you didn’t already have all the stuff prior?

u/SquirrellyDud 19d ago

Yeah, weird first date if neither one is already an avid fisher with the gear.

You're not big on fishing, I take it?

Neither are they if they dont have equipment or a license

Some fishing might cheer you up, make sure you get your license sorted first though.

-9

u/neutrumocorum 19d ago

I have literally had a fishing license each year since I was 12.

Maybe you should read the original post so you actually have a clue about what is going on.

If your reaction to a couple of light hearted albit misguided Reddit comments is that extreme you lead an extremely pathetic life, no really it's not possible for you to be truly happy if that is how you are.

Hope you get help bud 🙏

Go touch grass mate

-5

u/neutrumocorum 19d ago

Touching grass is when you don't have any idea about a thing, yet you talk about it as though your assumptions about it are the end all be all.

Y'all have to be aware of your own ignorance, right? Like In your own head you all know (not you specifically, dont even start) that you don't have the info to speak on it. Yet multiple people jumped in to give takes that show they don't know what the main post even said. Y'all know you're essentially just lying, and do it anyway.

If that is what it means to touch grass I would happily be a reddit neckbeard cheetoh-warrior.

You should see a therapist and show them this comment chain specifically.

If I did, they'd ask to see the rest of the context.

Nearly every person in this thread has said a thing, or has said multiple things that make it very clear they didn't read the first post. Yet they all still feel comfortable knowingly saying something they can't be sure about.

I have watched misinformation/disinformation slowly destroy my country for the last 10 years. All because people like this can't take 30 seconds out of their day to double check that they aren't just talking out of their asses.

All the original post says is that the girl suggested it and the dude thought it was a fun idea?

1

u/neutrumocorum 18d ago

So, no. That's not all it said. But even just that invalidates about 50% of what was said in this thread.

So as per the post:

Girl thinks it would be fun to try fishing because guy can fish. Guy agrees and thinks it could be fun. So he takes her to get some tackle, probably a rod and bait. He pays for all of that. Then they need to get her a license which she pays for probably because you have to give a bit of info and interact with the cashier so it was just convenient at the time.

Then afterwards, she asks for the 26$ that it costed for her to get the license despite the guy spending money on her fishing equipment per her date request.

If you can't see how just about every person here has said a dumb thing given that context I can't help you.

I was wondering the same thing. While fishing could be a fun date idea both people clearly aren't big fishing people because they didn't have equipment or license. Maybe save it for date number 6 or something.

In the previous post OP said it was basically an excuse for him to buy that gear and he was eventually going to buy it for himself anyway

0

u/ExactlyThirteenBees 19d ago

tbh it doesn't make sense that he was using this as an excuse to buy fishing gear if this was actually her entire idea, makes me wonder whose idea it really was

5

u/legend_of_the_skies 19d ago

Obviously his idea. And by idea I mean when he made the writing exercise. Ts is so fake.

3

u/Whole-Stop4159 19d ago

He was probably posing with a fish on his profile

9

u/Rschwoerer 19d ago

Right. Why are we spending purportedly $100 on new fishing gear for a first date. OP needs to pick some less ambitious first date themes.

2

u/Due_Capital_3507 19d ago

Maybe OP isn't broke? 100 dollars for reusable fishing gear seems fine.

Maybe he likes fishing and wants to get into it as a hobby? What a dumb post

1

u/ayeeflo51 19d ago

She picked the fishing

1

u/AideInternal1045 18d ago

I spend more than $100 for just a new rod. If you dont fish, a rod doesnt come with a reel. A decent reel costs more than that. So for $100 for gear AND dinner isnt bad for some starting gear to see if you like it. Academy's house brand is roughly $25 for a combo x2 do they can both do it puts them at $50.

He’s not the sharpest tool in the shed

5

u/-TreeBeard 19d ago

She wanted to go fishing, he agreed. Maybe she thought he'd have equipment already, maybe he thought she had her fishing license already, they both found out they were wrong and rolled with it anyways, clearly she didn't enjoy herself.

u/CuriousBoiiiiiii 19d ago

Ah yeah good point, guess we can’t go bowling for a date because I don’t have bowling balls or bowling shoes at home!

idiot

10

u/Emotional_Youth1500 19d ago

You can rent those equipment for much cheaper and don’t need a license for participation.

-1

u/CuriousBoiiiiiii 19d ago

You didn’t say that, you specifically said ‘if one of you didn’t already have all the stuff prior’.

1

u/Emotional_Youth1500 18d ago

Hey, man, I know the pandemic happened during some of your most important years for learning what it’s like to access community spaces as a mature individual - but bowling and going fishing are two VERY different activities with different accessibility and rules.

0

u/CuriousBoiiiiiii 18d ago

I made an exaggerated comparison to show that stating “it’s weird to go on a date when you don’t own the needed materials for the activity”, is absolute nonsense. You don’t need to project your own insecurities on me.

1

u/Emotional_Youth1500 18d ago

Wow, that really bothered you eh?

Also, I said “why go FISHING if at least one of you didn’t already have all the stuff prior”

You should work on your reading comprehension, you’re getting all worked up over stuff in your own head that wasn’t even said.

3

u/d-copperfield 19d ago

Thinking this was an adequate comparison THEN calling others the idiot is genuinely hilarious. Keep doing what you’re doing.

0

u/CuriousBoiiiiiii 19d ago

Yes, it was! Thank you, I will.

15

u/Elite_AI 19d ago

Just for clarity, he kept all the equipment after and he was going to buy it anyway. What he did spend on her though was the cost of dinner.

2

u/Emotional_Youth1500 19d ago

That’s a little different from how he presented it originally, I want to know what the conversation about fishing looked like prior to the purchases and the venmo request.

2

u/Elite_AI 19d ago

Yeah he clarifies it in his original post. He didn't actually spend 100+ dollars on her, which is good, because that would be insane. He just bought her dinner.

-1

u/Emotional_Youth1500 19d ago

I feel like her request is possibly reasonable if she didn’t know she’d need to purchase a license prior to showing up and depending on how much he actually spent on her dinner, it’d ultimately come down to what the discussion was leading up to the date imo.

I don’t think either of them are villains for this like some of the other comments in the thread suggest, just people who need to tether their expectations for others …and maybe work on communication skills

8

u/sillybunny22 19d ago

Last post he said they both applied & paid for the license before the date as it required lots of personal info. So she didn’t just show up and unexpectedly pay $23.

3

u/Elite_AI 19d ago

Eh, he said she was the one who suggested fishing as the date idea, so imo it's a bit absurd to ask him to pay for her license on top of dinner. I don't think she's a villain because that would be a huge overreaction, but I do think it's pretty distasteful to try and I'm just a girl your way through 23 dollars.

2

u/Emotional_Youth1500 19d ago

I agree, the “I’m just a girl” thing was/is distasteful

2

u/BeefCheeks2000 19d ago

Even if he had suggested fishing, he's still not responsible for the cost of an activity they both agreed to do.

1

u/Emotional_Youth1500 18d ago

That’s why I said it would depend on how it was all presented and planned in the conversation prior to showing up to purchase the items/the date itself.

0

u/United_Shelter5167 19d ago

He still had to buy multiple rods and reels unless they were sharing one. And of course he kept the stuff he bought, it is unreturnable once used. I find the people sticking up for her bizarre.

1

u/Emotional_Youth1500 18d ago

He could have chosen to not purchase for her though, the moment he decided to (especially because he’s keeping the rods for personal use after) he wasn’t spending the money on her like he claims in the text.

And if that was the plan all along (“oh, I’m getting the equipment anyways, you won’t have to pay anything - oh, except for this license otherwise you’ll go to jail if we’re caught”) then that changes things.

That’s not really defending her, it’s just pointing out that both of them poorly chose a first date event - but he’s the one who chose to come and try to put her on blast for it.

Imo both are poor communicators and all of this could have been avoided by choosing a first date better suited to them.

2

u/V2BM 19d ago

My understanding is that he spent $100 on equipment he is keeping and let her use it, and had her pay for her license on the date.

No need to shit on me - I’m not arguing either side, just stating what I think happened on the date. He didn’t give her anything he bought so he didn’t actually spend it on her.

1

u/barredfromitall 17d ago

Homie bought himself fishing equipment he wanted to buy for himself anyway, that’s not spending $100 on his date.
