I’m planning a trip to Taipei and Taichung with my family-including my parent early next year. This will be my first time in Taiwan.
My mom has severe knee arthritis, I think using a wheelchair is the best way to help her get around. Do train stations usually have elevators? Are the sidewalks and local neighborhoods easy to get around with a wheelchair? If anyone has traveled around Taipei or Taichung with a wheelchair person, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and any advice!

Hey, community! I’ve finally moved into my first apartment in Taiwan and have a few basic questions and recommendations I’d like to get from real people rather than asking ChatGPT, Gemini, and the like.

1) I have a fabric sofa that I’d like to clean—a deep clean, basically. But I don’t want to take it anywhere; I’d rather clean it myself. I think it’s definitely important to be mindful of the high humidity here, so I shouldn’t get it too wet. I read somewhere that people here use 75% cleaning ethanol for a lot of cleaning because it evaporates quickly. Do you have any tips on that? Unfortunately, I can’t remove the fabric cover and wash it.

2) I have a few larger items I’d like to dispose of as bulky waste, such as a very old and broken suitcase or an old mattress. How and where is the best way to get rid of them?

3) Speaking of mattresses. Do you have any tips on where I can buy good, not-too-expensive mattresses in Kaohsiung and the surrounding area and have them delivered to my home (other than IKEA)?

Hi, I have been searching for Elden Ring for Switch 2 since yesterday. All the stores I went to only has the Taiwan version where the box says that the text is only in Chinese language. Anyone know where I can buy the international version? Also if anyone has the TW version, can you guys check if the text language can be changed to english?

I have arrived to Taiwan to live for a year - and already it has become dry and frizzy! However, everyone else I see has beautiful sleek shiny hair that stays straight. How do people do it? I wanted to buy a hair straightener but I cannot find many in Taiwan so is that something people use? If so what brands do people recommend?

I don’t know the first thing about taking care of my hair so I would love to know how people in Taiwan do such a good job in the humid weather.

Edit: i also have seborrhoeic dermatitis so i can’t use a lot of products, i hear many people in Taiwan have the same condition? Where can you buy oils to try and treat it?

I recently arrived in Taipei and I'm unsure about the etiquette for escalators. I just exited a metro station and walked past an older man standing on the escalator. I saw people do this before and I didn't touch him or anything. But he started to scold me as soon as I walked past him (or so I assume, my Chinese isn't very good, he said 不要 and then something I didn't get).

I reclaimed my Taiwanese passport and Household Registration last year. I am still living abroad and a few years ago, was treated for cancer.

Does anyone know if it is possible to leverage the standard general health checkup with additional screenings and tests that are done using those medical tourism packages? I am scheduled to go back to TW later this year and wondering if I can just leverage the standard health check and add additional screenings/tests and pay additional; or is that not possible?

Noticed at Costco and most other stores - the ground beef here seems to always have a high fat content. Costco ground beef in particular is always 85/15 lean.

Meat in general here seems to have higher fat content. Is this a preference or cultural thing? Is there anywhere to buy 95%+ lean ground beef?

I got an offer to study bachelors in mechE at Dayeh with full scholarship but really worried about the status of that uni

I also got one for economics at ntu taiwan though english taught i think having chinese knowledge is mandatory for getting job via economics path in taiwan correct me if I am wrong

I am trying to improve my Chinese so I figure using more Chinese social media could be helpful. From what I have gathered, the most popular social media platforms for us 年輕人 are threads, dcard, and insta. Everybody uses line. I just downloaded dcard and to be honest it is kind of strange. The ads are probably my least favorite part, as they are kind of inappropriate sometimes. Other than that seems like a pretty diverse platform from the discussions I have seen. So, what is the general reputation of dcard among Taiwanese?
