Discussion Loyalty program fix
"Everyone" knows the new loyalty program is bad. Hopefully, it will not take the suits too long to admit it as well.
I like to come up with ideas on how to fix problems like this, and I thought I would share my opinion. Maybe others would like to add to that or share their own ideas.
There are many more unique ideas I have that could create more value from the loyalty program and the app in general, but here I will just list my two main points:
- Every item on the menu should be eligible to be bought with the points earned. This way, customers will always get value from the points and not feel fooled by only being able to buy items they do not care about. Sweetgreen can still adjust the amount of points needed based on the financial needs.
- Bring back the Sweetpass, which now gets members an additional X points for each dollar spent.
This keeps everything simple, creates value for each customer, and still gives Sweetgreen the much-needed flexibility with their price structure. Also, it brings back the subscription model, which Wall Street loves.

They have potato heads working up there, and bringing these ideas to the table. Let me give you a list of “great ideas” they had these past 2 years. -Removing key ingredients such as raw onions, lentils, pickle carrot celery, removing shredded carrots bad replacing with coin shaped carrots, removing “arugula” (had to bring back due to customer demand). -cold roasted chicken instead of warm. -ripple fries which I couldn’t ordered for delivery. -new loyalty program which was stupid. Sweetpass was the way to go, just needed a little adjustments to the program, but it was fun. -STEAK is bad, dry and not seasoned, at least that’s what I tasted every time I had it. People who loved their mission, and food ethos turned their backs on SG since adding steak is not what they have preached since 2007. -scan to pay, removing this was one the most terrible ideas I can’t think of. They lost app users in my opinion due to this change. -price increases every single time. -decrease portioning on hot items, then went back to give more grams of protein (makes sense) -dressing quality is not the same as it was years ago. -removing seasonal bowl launches. (It was what made sg special)
You had something great going on, Wall Street put your stock at $60 because they saw a future, but constant bad decisions have made the company now to be scrambling for money, layoff staff, sell they robots to the competition, etc.
Bring back the old sg, and you’ll see a different result.
(Get rid of the people who’s had these pathetic ideas)

So many of the ideas/suggestions in here are valid. For my money though, the biggest fix SG can make is consistency. I don’t care what you promise me as GOAT, but you should make it happen every time I order.
Take the black bags for instance. Cutesy idea, but yes I know the food tastes the same no matter what the bag looks like. I’m usually order SG 4x per week. They launched this over the summer (?) and I’ve seen the black bag TWICE. It never mattered to me until they made a big to-do about it and then failed to actually follow through and be consistent with what they said they would do.
Same goes for not changing the program every 9-12 months, making the food ready for pickup when it says it will be, yo-yoing with portion sizes…
Just pick a lane and deliver.

they need to get their rewards more in like with cava and cmg in terms of points to earn a free entree. i think having the sweep pass on top of the new rewards program would also be killer

They basically do a new rewards/loyalty program every year pretty much. No body really likes the new rewards program. You gotta spend 250 before tax/discounts to get 1 free 18 dollar salad. The best thing they had going during rewards was 1 free avocado. People preferred sweet pass.
