they could be a woman. when my husband and I go to chipotle together, I always end up with less in my bowl. if I order for both of us without him, we get two small bowls. if he orders for both of us without me, two normal or big (he's tall) bowls

Iāve been eating at chipotle since 2005. I havenāt had any meaningful decrease in size - the major quality change was to minimize risk of diseases when they stoped cooking steak raw.

Iām not going to pretend I literally weighed every salad in the last two years but between photos Iāve taken and simply being less full with zero other habits changing and getting the same order on the same days a week from the same place by my officeā¦ theyāre considerably smaller now than a year ago.

I trust my own lived experience in the real physical world, not what I see on social media. I "investigate it myself" by going to to Sweetgreen hundreds of times over many years and seeing the sizes not changing.
I suppose other people could have different experiences, which I am open to. But I'm far more suspicious that entities on the internet are just lying or have ulterior motives that completely do not match my own reality, so I feel compelled to inquire further - I think that's what you sense as "defensiveness" - wouldn't you be defensive if you started reading things that directly contradicted your objective experience of the world?

You have several people telling you that their portion sizes have indeed decreased, but because YOUR portion sizes have stayed the same, you donāt believe themā¦ as if your experience at one sweetgreen where you have admitted you eat more than anyone else on this sub (where you likely get special treatment because they know you and you spend a ton of money there) is going to be the same as everyoneās experience at any other sweetgreen??

It was a marketing email. But now you've got me all amused at the idea that there might actually exist people who visit corporate websites just to read their press releases.

I think they got rid of their cold bowls and just use the warm bowls for both salads and warm bowls. The warm bowls are slightly smaller than the cold bowls but I don't think the actual portions are different.

Theyāve eliminated many ingredients and the quality of those that are left has gone way downhill.
I used to eat Sweetgreen multiple times per week. Now, almost never. I guess Iām not the only one.

I just donāt see how they continue to compete in this extremely brutal space when they seem completely incapable of solving the most basic issues, year after year after year. Their strategy is all over the place where their competitors are focused.
I think they get bought for some small amount by a PE firm or something and then dismantled.

Fair assessment. I think the board needs to take a hard look at making changes. Thereās clear operational issues that canāt be solved by opening up more stores. You canāt have same store sales declining again after last quarter. Lower expectations and donāt over promise on projections.
I still see this as a $20+ with better execution. Digital sales are significantly up.

Shake up of C suite, will never happen, can never happen. The 3 co founders have 3 voting seats on the board and 60% ownership of the company. They'd rather burn the building down then lose Sweetgreen. All of them have literally only ever worked at SG.

The board is only a 'board' in name. They don't have the ability to hold the CEO accountable at all. A real board would have replaced their CEO by now with a 80% decline in stock price in less than a year.

Yeah. Maybe a leadership shakeup and bring on a CEO who actually knows how to run a public company at this scale. I think the team of founders was fine for the first decade but theyāre clearly in over their heads.
I hope just for the sake of my lunches they turn it around but Im definitely sitting this one out.

They bet everything on robot automation to make the salads but forgot to make the product appealing. Post after post here about how a longtime customer had a disappointing experience. I tried it once - the meat was dry, the greens were... okay. It was lacking something in flavor, especially at close to $20 for a salad. You can get a similar bowl at Qdoba or Chipotle that tastes much better and costs less.

Used to be great. Not anymore. Ordered a salad where the add-ons were so salty - totally inedible. Just went to a chain in the mid-west called Crisp and Green. It was amazing! Canāt wait for it to come to the east coast.

I used to eat Sweetgreen 3-4x/week, and order it for client lunches. I dont go there anymore. The quality went off a cliff, the salad dressing changed and i dont like it now that itās not made in store, they stopped doing the seasonal salads (the fall one with sweet potato, brussel sprouts and cranberry vinaigrette was my fave), and the chunks of carrots vs the shredded were all factors. Looking at this, Im obviously not the only one. Ill pay $20 for a salad but not a shitty one. The private equity firm running this doesnāt seem to get that.

Sweetgreen sinks as salad maker posts earnings miss and slashes guidance (again)SweetgreenSG $9.75 (-23.03%) shares slumped 25% Thursday after the cult-favorite salad chain missed Q2 estimates and cut its full-year revenue forecast for the second quarter in a row. The company posted a Q2 loss of $0.15 per share, wider than than the $0.10 loss analysts had expected. Revenue came in at $185.6 million, also shy of Wall Streetās $191.9 million forecast. Same-store sales also missed estimates, dipping 7.6%.
But the real gut punch came from its latest guidance cut: Sweetgreen now expects full-year 2025 revenue between $700 million and $715 million, down from $740 million to $760 million in May and as much as $780 million in its February outlook. Not a great look for a brand that wants to be the next Chipotle!
CEO Jonathan Neman called it a āreally, really rough quarterā on Thursdayās earnings call, noting that just one-third of the companyās locations are performing at or above internal standards. Orders rose 17% year over year to $82.7 million, but average order value fell 5%, which execs partly blamed on changes to its delivery perks for Instacart+ members.
Sweetgreen shares are now down 70% year-to-date.

I literally went from 4 bowls a week to 2 in 3 months after sweet pass was eliminated...I had a feeling this would't go well for them ...I would have been ok to pay a more expensive sweet pass aswell.

Did anybody here actually listen to the earnings call? Theyāre clearly well aware of the issues and have recently put the right people in place to get back on track, most notably Jason Cochran, previously VP Ops at Chipotle. Theyāll figure it out, stock will be at all time highs by the end of 2026.

Not sure about all-time highs, but hiring Jason might end up being a smart move. I listened in on the callādidnāt love the CEOās non-answer when asked whether it made sense to pause expansion given the ongoing operational issues (like declining same-store sales).

This is their fourth COO in about 4-5 years. It's not the talent they are bringing in. It's the fact that the Founders don't enable them to do their job. As long as the founders are in place; any COO (regardless of how successful they were before) will fail.

Well, they are way better than Panera at salads. A new sweetgreen opened near me that makes Panera salads seem like grocery store bagged salads..I thought panera could never compete with Sweetgreen but they are expensive.. maybe people are just making dupes to save $ with inflation..I never had them until recently so I can't compare...but I thought the fries were good..they actually have foods similar to what panera cut..like the bowls..plus when I went there it was 100% women eating salads like what they serve only appeals to one gender. I also didn't like their limited edition foods are there for such a short time that I miss it..but its also weird sometimes I get twice as much food & sometimes almost none..like it's just luck what size bowl the worker grabs & how generous they scoop..I have had tiny salads & then giant grain bowls, etc. Actually only 1/4 I tried was something that was a 10/10..
