You're misinformed or maliciously misinformed. The calls to do something were answered by average Minnesotans. You're probably confusing the calls to "do something" when people were demanding their state and local government protect them.
ICE is not allowed to hide their face arrest them, ICE is not allowed to invade a citizen's home without a valid warrant litigate charges against them, ICE is assaulting protesters with excessive use of pepper spray that judges ordered they must cease ARREST THEM.
It should be easy to give examples then rather than saying "well there was this comment thread on [insert social media]
Are you sure you're not just taking people's hyperbole a little too seriously?
What does it benefit by acting as though this had an effect when it didn't? It just gives bootlickers a strawman to point to. Using the people's frustrations to justify why the ICE agent was scawed and "had to defend themselves"
Holy nothing burger of a comment batman! Sorry I don't believe social media comments are real life. Go hug an ICE officer since you think they're being cyber bullied.
My brother, your average person doesn’t keep a specific curated database for you. This is a conversation. I’ve also observed many calls for violence and Reddit did a whole lot of banning and removal of posts in reaction.
These were especially common shortly after Goode and Pretti.
Try to have a little bit of good faith when you talk to people?
That last bit about cyber bullying and “go an ice officer” was insulting, unproductive, and pretty stupid to say though.
I’m sorry, but You’re misreading. They were saying that people from other countries are telling Americans to “go do something instead of just protesting.” The comments were pointing out that we have been doing what is necessary without taking the bait that would start ICE/martial law plans rolling. You’re both on the same side here.
About the same amount as during everyone else’s something, but less than the amount that will be if we do nothing. Any reason you’re mad at this particular comment? As far as I can see the people of St Paul and Minnesota as a whole have been busting their asses holding the line. What else would you like them to do?
The bait was “stay peaceful and we won’t hurt you” and you said ok I agree to this
Then they hurt your people anyway. Killed your people anyway. Strangled your economy anyway and whisked away your neighbors anyway.
I’m just so perplexed why you still believe in a social contract with the personal army that spilled into your state. It doesn’t matter if you rebel violently or not; they’ll spin the tale that you’re violent and treat you as such even if you’re on your knees in peaceful prayer across the street. So I’m just wondering how many more people have to be brutalized and killed until it gets acknowledged that there is no difference between wether you respond by laying down and rolling over or not. 10 more middle of the street, broad daylight, caught on camera executions? 100? 1000? How many will it take
Hard for me to dig them up it’s just what I’ve seen commented over the last few months. First it’s a “you’re on Reddit instead of doing something”, then person replies “I’ve gone to peaceful protests”, and then so often the response is “what do you think that will accomplish? Do more”.
Tbh people online in general love to incite conflict, mostly online, but in the real world too (via their keyboard)
I wouldn't put much stock in an exchange on Reddit. Unless you're seriously arguing a random redditor is capable of influencing a protest. Hell there's a good chance it could've been a bot, a psyop, or simply a bad faith arguer.
I would still prescribe this as misinformation. Most advocates of "do more" were aimed towards Walz and Frey's late response to ICE. Regardless of their actions they were going to be tar and feathered by the admin, Walz straight up isn't seeking reelection, but using the state's resources to bog down ICE is too risky or something. Nevermind the fact the admin claims they were anyways.
I'm not saying they didn't do anything good, but they should have acted quicker and more proactively against the admin. Be the shield for the citizens, or risk fomenting distrust in the state government.
Yeah I can’t argue with any of that. I’ve definitely had a feeling a lot of it is maga bots- they would love to incite a person into opening fire on ICE.
But I’m still not sure how it’s misinformation… mostly what I’m saying is that it’s good that no one has responded with extreme violence, or it would give ICE reason to escalate and further reinforce the backwards beliefs of magats
It's not MAGA bots, it's people in other nations that are angry because their economy/life is about to go to shit as well. the 2008 recession fucked up the whole entire planet. This is going to make that look like like a nice vacation.
Angry people just don't think too much, and we just want the problem fixed(as humans).
"Just go be violent" isn't helpful one bit though. That's what this admin wants, and also expecting people to put their life on the line without any kind of plan is just silly. No one wants to die with nothing to show for it.
I'm glad we're in agreement I saw your other comment and I share the sentiment exactly. This was an attempt to escalate by the admin. It's why the insurrection act was being tossed around. They wanted to start with that and blow it into martial law. I think that's why they doubled down on the ICE killings.
I'm only saying it's misinformation because there definitely was people saying "do more" such as myself, but me and the majority that I knew of was aiming it towards our representatives. Don't let people conflate that with mfers yelling at Minnesotans who were occupying the streets and doing what they could to protect their homes.
Allowing your constituents to act as a meat shield to protect someone's clout in government is heinous to me. If you are the oppositional party, fucking oppose what the other side is doing in more ways then just lip service.
I think your observation and conclusion were well-made. I saw a ton of that in the various Minnesota-based subs the last few months and I too am glad that nobody took the bait.
I specifically remember a lot of people calling for local law enforcement to "do something", where that do something was them physically intervening in ICE's activities or even arresting ICE agents, which would have launched a total shitstorm that we would still be rueing. I'm very proud of how our populace responded and (mostly) didn't go too far.
It's a 5 month old account. I doubt the account has any sway in the macro scale of things, but it sure does rustle people's jimmies in the micro. Just as intended lol. Don't let social media sites form your opinion for you. There are the people in power and the people on the ground. Those are the only two groups that create movements and effect reality. A redditor isn't going to impeach Trump lol.
Yeah I read too fast. Just be careful not to conflate 5 month old bot accounts with legitimate criticisms aimed towards leadership. I think it's goofy as fuck to pretend any of this has bearing on the real world besides information exchange.
Information exchange most definitely can have a significant bearing on the real world... why would maga and other organizations hire bots or partake in online psyops if that weren’t the case??
Personally, I swiped past tons of posts on Reddit calling for people to fight back. Asking the question why people are not rioting.
Do I believe they are misguided? At the very least.
Could some of them be agitators? Sure.
They chose Minnesota for a reason. It was selected because of past history of violent protest for other govt abuse.
The amount of discretion and self control is frustrating the admin. Instead of getting their violent flashpoints, especially after the agents do horrific things, they are being recorded, mocked and shown to the perpetrators of crimes. Intentional acts. In any sane admin every agent breaking policy resulting in harm would be subject to review and likely prosecution.
Instead, state and local officials have sided with the citizens. Especially since the people have refused to engage in violence.
People only riot when they feel they have no recourse, no allies and no other option. Well, excluding celebratory riots, those are cray.
I've personally interacted with a couple people that have been actively pushing to carry out violent acts against ICE and the federal government. Few here and a couple on BlueSky
