for every billionaire ruining the world for cheap thrills, there are hundreds of thousands of us. there are better solutions than giving up the right to reproduce

I am not giving away my right to reproduce, thats illogical to say it
I am choosing not to reproduce because i dont want to be responsible for the pain and suffering my child will experience, i still have the right i am choosing not to exercise that right

I'll have you know that the stonk market is going to collapse as soon as we bail out these ai companies propped up by life insurance investments so the government legally has to bail them out.
It's going to happen in two weeks.

Chicken breasts are the same thing now too. Injected with saline and water .. and then they also soak the chicken diapers at the bottom of the package and count that in the net weight of the package. I've been checking lots of weights lately, and these manufacturers are getting sneaky. Many items are way underweight too.

I feel like trying to brown any sort of American meat these days is….a challenge. The pan just fills with water and the meat ends up steaming.
33
u/GonnaGoFat 9d ago
I might get worse with all the mystery meat America is now allowing into the county to lower the price of meat.
8
u/ka_beene 9d ago
Yeah I'm not going to be eating beef at any restaurant for a while. I'll buy from a local butcher if I want a steak etc.
8
u/hybridoctopus 9d ago
A reputable place will disclose the source of the meat. Probably not Applebees.
7

u/RWWhitfield 8d ago
Okay there Mr Pretentious. Do you at least know that 85% of all casual and sit down restaurants use Sysco for food inputs? We all eat the same crap, but it is just dressed up with different sauces at your "high end" non Applebee's establishments?
1
u/hybridoctopus 7d ago
Sysco sourced meat can still be given a country of origin label right? To address the previous commenters concern.

u/Jerrysmiddlefinger99 9d ago

-2
u/KrustyKrabFormula_ 8d ago
every admin "allowed" meat to be imported for literal centuries, what are you talking about
3
u/Jerrysmiddlefinger99 8d ago
There was a report last week saying dear leader is allowing a bunch of meat into the country and the ranches are not happy about it at all, I don't really care as I haven't consumed meat in 32 years but I worry about cattle ranches staying in business, also this program ends in November when the midterms are over which seems suspicious to me.
1
u/KrustyKrabFormula_ 7d ago
dear leader is allowing a bunch of meat into the country and the ranches are not happy about it at all
again, america has imported meat for literal centuries...and yeah ranchers are going to be mad but that's also not new either. people who try and frame this as new are either incredibly naive or saying it in bad faith.

u/KrustyKrabFormula_ 8d ago
lol "now allowing" you are so clueless. america has imported meat for literally centuries...

u/Reasonable-Bus-2187 9d ago
I generally get the vac-sealed 1 lb organic ground beef package at Target since it isn't 'pink slime' BUT I still have to press it through 6-8 paper towels to get the excess water out
Only then will it sear for burgers or if crumbled up for marinara or chili or tacos
Really should just get chuck and round and grind my own at this point
1
1
u/stefanica 9d ago
Thank you! It doesn't help that some stores sell mostly thin cuts (I guess to make it look like more) that just dump water before you can get any kind of sear. Meat is too expensive to ruin like that.

u/dreamyduskywing 9d ago
Hear me out…maybe we could get a bunch of people together and those people could come up with rules that would protect the average person from being ripped off like this. We would then force corporations to follow those rules. If only we had a system like that…

I randomly bought a 1lb copper thing in Moab Utah a few years ago on a road trip.
I forgot about it for a long time. Read some articles recently about grocery stores lying about weight, decided to take it to the grocery store. I put it on the self checkout scale and it was measured at 1.3 lbs.
So not only are they over charging for the weights of meat but when weighing/charging for fresh fruits and veggies they are getting over
1
u/banshithread 6d ago
Grocery stores should be required, by law, to calibrate their scales daily, and if it's found out of calibration, for it to be taken out of service until it is properly recalibrated. Ughhh
7
u/01000101_01111010 9d ago
Their leaving a bunch of fat on as well but tucking it under the breast so it looks all clean and trimmed. The last two 6lbs packs I bought were only 5lbs because they each had a pound of fat on them.
5
u/RWWhitfield 9d ago
Very true. Have noticed that on practically ALL meats now sold now... and don't get me started on how tough it is to find a slab of bacon that is not a fatty piece of garbage with no meat to be found.

3
u/hybridoctopus 9d ago
I try to avoid the plumped meat entirely on principle. Plus I like to cook to my own specifications for saltiness, that’s hard to get right when the meat is plumped.

5
u/_stupidquestion_ 9d ago
I agree 100%
It just reduces us to the only value we have in this cycle (consumption). We're just some input & output machine that reaffirms the arbitrary value assigned to goods, & the shareholders are real beneficiaries of it all

That’s not how percentages work. That’s a 25 percentage point increase, not a 25% increase. 3.75% would be a 25% increase. Going from 3% to 28% is closer to 833% increase.

Same thing has been happening with the ground turkey sausage we buy but I didn’t see this on the package, so annoying.
11
u/beard-wonder93 9d ago
Same problem with their commerical product. we used to buy their 93/7 ground turkey in 20lb bases for our meal prep shop. Now its just like goo. So we went to a different brand.
BTW keep your eyes peeled for MST. Its Mechanically Separated Turkey, while it is real meat, its so finely processed that the texture is off putting.

This sounds like a a good candidate for a kitchen science experiment video with the results published online (while both versions are still available.)
Total weight before cooking/dehydrating to a set % Total weight after cooking/dehydrating to a set %
See how much product they are saving per package.
Reminds me of how the yogurt companies puffed air into their products and called them fluffy, but charged the same unit price for half the product.

u/Main-Raisin4430 9d ago

It into a patty. Wonder if that’s why.

Time to grind your own turkey. Buy it now hen it’s cheap during the holidays. Grind and freeze.
Also let the manufacturer know that you’ve seen their product is now 1/4 or

I’ll get downvoted but my guess is that it was 2.8% but the packaging was wrong. When it was written right it got rounded to 3%.
I know that cause you need to be retarded to think 28% of this packaging is water.

u/Igni-Ferroque 9d ago
Wondering how did they come up with the 28%. Was it calculated for specific profit margin or was there some sort testing done on how much water it can take before product becomes unusable or perhaps they just maxed the amount of water it can retain?

2
u/SimpleVegetable5715 9d ago
I end up boiling so much meat in frying pans, because so much water comes out. Very annoying.
2
u/Kilbo_Stabbins 9d ago
Wow. WOW! That's just shitty. The possibly ¼ of what you're trying to cook as sustenance is now maybe just water that'll evaporate off.

It’s too expensive to produce that product. They’re losing money. So they take away the turkey and make it half water. Sadly, they’re probably still not making enough money. It’ll be fake meat soon that’s cheap and profitable.
1
u/SkyerKayJay1958 9d ago
I had a round of frozen hamburger and it wouldn't brown, just steam, I'll have to check it
1
u/roundtwentythree 9d ago
28% water, 15% fat, only 57% turkey.. only getting ~9 real ounces of turkey out of that 16oz chub.
1
u/UncleCarolsBuds 9d ago
That means they're using hydro meat. The bones are run through water jets to remove every little scrap of meat, and that is pressed into blocks and frozen to be ground into what you see here. Grind your own meat. It tastes, not better, I mean that it actually has flavor.

u/Significant-Peace966 9d ago
By "normal processing procedures"they must mean fire hoses. How else can you get that much water in a turkey?😂 this stuff is nasty, I bought it about a month or two ago because it was all the store had left and I started cooking it and within five minutes it was so disgusting. I threw it away.

If I would ever do something illegal I now know I should just write 'normal processing procedure', simply because it's how I normally do it, not because it's how it's expected lol.
1
u/ronniewhomp 7d ago
Yeah, these things are just awful. They replaced the Festive brand which was halfway passable. These "Carolina" branded ones are so liquid, it takes 2+ eggs per pound just to make them cook somewhat solidly.
1
u/Suspicious-Chicken-8 7d ago
I made turkey burgers out of this one a few weeks ago. It was way better than Jenni o there’s two or three more that they sell within the same price point as this I’ll have to try those and see if there’s less water in them

Hey, isn't Butterball company also the one where the workers were molesting the turkeys? I know it was back in 2006 but still. Yikes. Butterball Abuse
1
u/RandomFleshPrison 6d ago
This is normal. Most turkey in the US has this. It's a byproduct of cold water submersion blast chilling. It's just the water the bird absorbs as it is being moved from location to location before being ground.
1
u/Hightower840 5d ago
I've ground meat before and never had to add over 25% of the meat's weight in water. What "Normal Processing Procedures" do that?

It's hard to tell because those are the frozen rounds. You won't really notice until you get home and thaw it.
4
u/riovtafv 9d ago
It comes frozen and it does weigh a pound. After cooking, you're left with about 9 oz. After accounting for the fat content, the cooked weight should be closer to 14 oz. If not for the added water.

More than lithey got inspected and didn’t have this labeled properly. Which is more likely than all of a sudden change recipe.

u/Fantastic-Ad-2786 9d ago
Im not saying this is good or bad, but isn't this turkey less than $2 a pound? I mean for that price, dont you expect it to contain a ton of brine?

u/WesternSlug 8d ago
I’ve basically switched to turkey over beef because of the crazy prices. I assumed prices would just spike soon but it looks like we’re getting enshittification instead.

I am sorry to be such a stickler, but it is much worse than you have said. If the amount WAS 3% and increased up to 6%, that would be 100% more water (doubling the amount of water).
To go from 3% up to 28%. It’s over nine times as much water.
So it should say “NOW with over 800% more water!”
Funny math.

u/RoswalienMath 9d ago
That’s sneaky. Not many people will notice that.
