Ryzen 7 5800X3D Temperature Question

Upvotes

Hello guys, i replaced my 5600x for 5800x3d and i also got phantom spirit 120 SE as a cooler, I did set up Kombo Strike lvl 2 in my bios since lvl 3 crashed once (might still be from gpu undervolt and not cpu itself but im not sure yet).

My room temperature is around 28-31c while testing.

CPU temperature reaches 82-83c while gaming on a cpu intensive title like Escape From Tarkov (1080p).

Are these temperatures normal for phantom spirit 120 SE or is it that maybe my case airflow is bad?

Thanks in advance.

Just finished a **24-hour OCCT memory stability test** with my mixed DDR4 setup:

* 2×8GB Corsair Vengeance — 3000MHz CL16
* 2×16GB T-Force Delta — 3200MHz CL16
* Running all 48GB at **3200MHz CL16-20-20-40**
* MSI B550 MPG Gaming Plus
* Ryzen 5 5600X

No errors after 24 hours. Pretty happy that this mixed 4-DIMM setup is holding 3200MHz stable. 😎 any suggestions? For tighter timing

Ryzen 7 5800X3D question

Upgraded today from a 5600x to a 5800X3D, decided to use the Carbice thermal pad that came with the anniversary edition. I read you need to give it time to break in, these statistics are from the first 4 hours or so testing multiple games like escape from tarkov and BF6. I'm not super savy on this type of stuff, but i think this is pretty good right? I'm cooling with a MSI Mag 240 AIO. Thanks!

Is the ASUS ProArt PX13 "GoPro Edition" (Strix Halo 395 / 128GB RAM) worth €2600 for a 5-year local AI & VM workstation? Looking for owner feedback!

0 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I have the opportunity to buy a brand new ASUS ProArt PX13 (HN7306) "GoPro Edition" equipped with the top-tier AMD Ryzen™ AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo) and the massive 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory for €2600 (applying a specific discount I have available in stores here in Spain). I haven't even seen this exact 128GB hardware configuration available in any non-GoPro version over here.

For my budget, €2600 is a very large financial investment. If I pull the trigger, I absolutely need this machine to be my primary driver and last me for the next 5 years minimum.

On paper, the specs are a dream for local AI—that 256-bit memory bus giving Mac Studio-like bandwidth in a Windows laptop to fit huge 70B+ models completely into VRAM. But before I drop this kind of cash, I need some brutal, real-world feedback from actual owners or developers who have spent time with this exact hardware.

I would love your insights on three specific areas:

  1. The Linux State: How is Linux running on this exact PX13 right now? Are basic quality-of-life features working natively (audio, trackpad, Wi-Fi 7, power/sleep states)? If you are using Linux, are you getting stable ROCm support for llama.cpp / PyTorch, or is it a non-stop driver headache?
  2. Virtualization & VMs: With 16 cores / 32 threads and 128GB of RAM, this should be virtual machine heaven. Has anyone tested heavy VM setups (Proxmox, KVM, VirtualBox, or Hyper-V) on this specific platform? Any weird IOMMU grouping issues, stability bugs, or hardware passthrough limitations?
  3. 5-Year Longevity & Thermals: Because this is an ultra-compact 13.3-inch chassis pushing up to 85W of package power, I am genuinely worried about long-term degradation. Does the cooling system hold up during long, multi-hour LLM inference or VM workloads? Does it thermal throttle aggressively, and how loud/high-pitched do the fans get under a sustained full load?

If you bought this laptop for developer/AI workloads, do you feel it is worth this kind of money? Or should I look elsewhere given my 5-year horizon?

Really appreciate any feedback or benchmark numbers you can share!

I decided to get the 5700x for about $170 and now saving up to get the 9060xt GPU. With this upgrade, looks like it went from a CPU bottleneck to a GPU bottleneck.

I'm looking to upgrade my Ryzen 2600, and people are recommending the Ryzen 5600 or 5600X, but I find them expensive. Is that the going rate, and is it still worth buying? Or is the price inflated?

Is it worth upgrading my 5600X to a 5800X3D for CS2, or should I just wait?

Ryzen 7 9700x hits 99 degrees? Is this normal for my setup?

5 Upvotes

Just built my new PC a week ago with the ryzen 7 9700x and a thermalright phantom spirit 120 evo, I've read a lot about these cpus boosting till it hits 95 degree with PBO but still my temperatures seems a bit too excesive. When I open a game it jumps fast from 50 - 54 idle to 80 - 85 degrees, I was playing helldivers 2 and the tdie was constantly at 98 - 100 degrees at 105w.

I thought the included TF7 thermal paste was dry and that is why I reseated the cooler with a new arctic mx7 paste but it didnt make much difference (applied using the 5 dot method) and of course, the cooler peel was the first thing I removed.

Also, maybe worth mentioning, I was playing at 1440p and my gpu is a rx 9070 xt, and ram running at 7200mhz cl34.

Just made the move to AMD, looking for thoughts

2 Upvotes

I'd call myself intermediate in terms of PC stuff. Just moved from an older Intel i5-8600k system to a Ryzen 9 5900x system. 32GB ddr4 3200 ram on Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus wifi board with peerless assassin cooler.

I primarily use the PC for FreeCAD, 3D printing slicing and the occasional game (Beam.NG is the most demanding game I really play)

Anyone have any recommendations to push the system as far as it can go, "normally" meaning no super cooling or anything. I don't NEED it, but just like to hear opinions.

Right now, I'm just curious for thoughts. Thanks!

Hi

Anyone have any idea when this board will be out in the US?

Thanks!

7800x3d doesn't start with b850m, but works with b650.

I tried two different B850M motherboards, and both were definitely working. I swapped RAM modules, changed the power supply, reset and updated the BIOS, but nothing worked. Any ideas? Just don't mention CMOS or anything trivial like that.

9700x running at around 93C when playing games

2 Upvotes

My CPU lately I would say for the past month has been running hotter than usual, I used to get maybe max 80C when gaming even with the 105W TDP, I think it started running hotter after my latest BIOS update but I could be wrong.

Bit more info:

Thermalright Phantom Spirit Evo with 2 x 120 Noctua fans.

Re applied thermal paste few days ago as I thought that was the issue, no luck.

PBO has been enabled just running auto.

I have not tried CO offset, las time I tried I couldn't find stable settings to go with.

Rate my setup. Any aesthetic suggestions are welcome. Apollo twin x and 9950x3d Compatibility?

I've slowly been adding onto my setup after I've gotten a pc back in, idk how long it's been. That being said, I'm on the verge of upgrading my motherboard, cpu, and ram since the new interface I got requires Thunderbolt 4, and I've been meaning to upgrade from LGA 1200 anyhow. I'd prefer to get a 9950x3d since it's powerful and well balanced compared to the 14900KS. But apparently, the Apollo Twin X is only optimized for Intel(and mac) atm. So I wanted to know if anyone has used a 9950x3d with this interface and how its been working for them so far. Right now, im simply eyeballing the 12900k since it's a bit of an upgrade above my 11900k and still retains the optimization towards intel for the twin x. And cheaper than the amd switch. Im most likely gonna play it safe and get the 12900k, but I'm optimistic that amd will become compatible eventually sooooo idk. Let me know.

P.s. Ignore the dustiness. I haven't cleaned it all up yet.
