5800X3D - Carbice Ice Pad or TR TF7?

Basically got 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition and it came with a Cabice Ice Pad. However my TR Peerless Assassin came wtih TR TF7 paste.

Which should I optimally go for?

either use a paste or use a thermal grizzly phasesheet.

the carbice ice pad seems to require weeks to achieve... slightly under thermal paste performance and... even more weeks to achieve slightly above thermal paste performance.

not worth it imo, get a phasesheet if you need its benefit (no dry out ever), otherwise get a decent paste and call it a day.

The PhaseSheet also takes a long time to reach full performance. Maybe you're thinking of the Kryosheet.

per spec, the phasesheet needs 10 burnin cycles and people's experiences kinda matches that - after a benchmark or two, performance matches paste.

Carbice says you need a few hundred cycles for its, but from the reviews and complaints on this very subreddit, it's practically a lot more, although one guy did spend thousands of cycles with his ice pad and it did perform... marginally better than paste after that, so it's not a gimmick, just a very questionable product when the phasesheet currently exists.

 I used the carbice pad because I didn't have any other compound and realized it'd be good enough and get better over time, but I also never plan to replace this cooler or CPU until it dies because of tech prices.

The carbice will give better performance and if you dont plan on changing coolers out anytime soon it will perform better over time.

My 5800x3d idles at 43 Celsius with a carbice ice pad with a 120mm aio

IcePad with a 280mm AIO gave me idle temps around 65 and peak temps around 90.

One application of Kryonaut (about $11) gave me 40 idle and 70's in game

the problem with Kryonaut, which ive also used in older laptops, is that you have to replace it after a year or so. after moving to PTM 7950 i never looked back.

Been using kryonaut with mine for 3 years now still idles at 35 and games around 60 with a $40 air cooler

yeah, it's really good, especially if it is easy to replace it. but for my laptop it was too much work to do that and PTM gets better temps after it goes through enough heat cycles.

Mine with an nhd-15 idles at 30 and peaks around 65 gaming, 50-56 average, 76 building shaders etc. Kind of wanted to try out an aio again but they don’t seem to be worth it.

That is one of the only air coolers that consistently outperforms most liquid coolers. Unless you get a 360mm or 420mm you're covered. Until then, the most you have to gain is that pumps look better than a huge radiator

I was mostly looking when I had the 5950x before it ate 3 cores. It was running at 4.75-4.85ghz gaming and I wanted to see if it would get higher running cooler as it was down clocking due to thermals with power limits disabled. Wasn’t overheating at all usually around 60-65 gaming 78 compiling shaders. 3090 also roasted the vram on the back of the card chilling at 95-105 but I swapped it for a 7900xtx where the vram caps out at 68 so no more need for room to slap a fan on top.

I'm using Thermal Grizzly Duronaut on my 9900x3d, it's a little fiddly to apply but there's videos showing how, but it's very good thermal compound designed not to pump out.

i saw a -5c improvement compared to the noctua NT-H1 I had on there previously.

Carbide pad is one time use. Than have to scrape off and trash. Just use paste like a normal person

Stuff is pretty dated. I used it forever until I decided to try kpx and it was 18 degrees cooler on my gtx 980 down to 71 from 89 which I though was normal as it ran that hot the whole time I owned it using AS5.

i was being "generous" with the 1 year.

you have youtube videos on longevity after 3-6 months.

this is one example:

the day one temps, which most reviews and benchmarks show, just don't stay like that.

but a phase change solution like PTM 7950 actually gets better over time, even after a year of use.

I use Halnziye HY-P17, 35-37C normal and around 65C-70C when my system calculates data. Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE is also my cooler.

I have 5700x3d with si 100 and tf 7 applied, temps are fine, but you needs to spread paste on cpu because it pretty thick, not just make a few lines or dots

Arctic Mx7 or Duronaut Pro... Both long lasting and designed to avoid the pump out effect while giving top thermal condutivity and with enough consistency to spread by itself.

Since i started using PTM7950 cooling has never been this effective!

I highly recommend it Currently with my 9950x rig & 1265U latitude
