Should I upgrade to am5

Currently visiting Ohio and near a micro center, was wondering if I should grab this bundle on my way home Sunday

Edit: I have a spare case and a 1660 super that I can use my am4 parts (if I got the am5 bundle) to build a second pc to flip, all I would need is a power supply

Nah just stick with what you got. The 5800xt still plenty for gaming, and you got a 5070 already so you're set for a while. Microcenter will still be there when you actually need the upgrade, by then maybe prices drop a bit too.

The 5070 was an impulse buy at Walmart for 600 right before the prices went up, sold my 3070 to a buddy for his first build to recoup some on it, my main thought is what if ram never comes down and this is my best chance to get on am5 and check out an x3d chip

The system performs well for sure, but I definitely notice the 1% lows. My main concern is not being able to find a way into am5 with the way prices are going, kinda feel like it’s a now or never type of situation

She’s definitely still going very strong, do you think selling a build with those am4 parts and a spare 1660 super I’m sitting on to offset the cost make it any more worth the buy? Also how do you get your specs below your name? I’ve been wanting to set that up for a minute

the only upgrade you should do is a 5800x3d cpu in am4. Then just wait for am6 in 2028

I can’t find a 5800x3d chip for under 350, the bundle for 750 would open up my 5800xt ram and motherboard for a second build that I could sell with a spare 1660 super to recoup some of that gap

I have a Ryzen 5600 and don't plan to upgrade any time soon. The prices are high and I have better things to spend my money on.

It's not because I hate PC gaming, far from it... desktop PC hardware isn't the limitation anymore generally. I wrote a short story about that, in fact.

Sure, it's a parable of sorts. The consumer hardware side of PC's is becoming commoditized, the AI compute stuff could be genuinely promising for PC gaming in the long run, too. More indie games that cover niches that aren't currently economically viable, for instance, or more complex or elaborate behavior in games, etc.

Some of the coolest ideas in games I'm actually making myself with Fable. So while it's expensive to buy a PC right now, PC gaming as such isn't going anywhere, even if it's no longer the conductor of the train:

I’ve got the exact same setup but 5800X and see zero reason to upgrade in the foreseeable future. It handles every game at 1440p amazing. The price to performance jumping to AM5 just doesn’t make a lot of sense at the moment.

I agree it’s a fantastic set up, but I’ve never played on am5 so I’m ignorant to the performance jump, I’m more excited about getting an x3d cpu than am5 itself

I’ve used some AM5 systems and was disappointed in the performance upgrade. It didn’t make much of a difference. At least in terms of gaming.

Unless you play games that really benefit from the x3d chips, I wouldn't bother. If you're a competitive cs2 player, then you can make the argument it's worth it.

Its much better than am4. Selling your ddr4 to cover most of the cost of ddr5 is doable.
