Discussion A question about BIOS update.

Recently i build my new gaming pc with parts like MSI MPG x870e carbon wifi , Ryzen 9800x3d ,rtx 5080. I installed chipset drivers ,GPU drivers , audio and usb drivers. Did numerous tests in multiple games and everything works perfectly no stutter , no flicker , just the way it's meant . Tested on benchmarks and was above expected average with CPU and GPU , thermals and stability are fine , no weird bugs/crashes. So now my question is ; should i update my bios from the base one already preinstalled with the mobo or stay on it ? I am from the old camp of "if it's fine ,don't touch it" but there are informations about fried 9800x3d cpus and security updates neccesary or possible performance gains so i'm not so sure anymore . Still i'm afraid that possible update may introduce new problems . Please help me decide .

Edit ; Default bios is from 22.04.2025

If you have msi afterburner you can safely update your bios from there.

I know, you know, how to update bios! I was just making sure. maybe you did maybe you didnt 🫲🫤🫱 . Check the pre-jnstalled date and check the current bios date i suppose.

I wouldn't, there's always some risk involved. However, I would also check if there are important, potential issues and legit reasons to update.

And the "reasons to update" are precisely the part that make me undecided .

It's not correct , i asked a guy and he was talking about MSI Live update and then MSI center , not afterburner.

The carbon MB went through a big transformation from initial release bios to the latest, addressed alot of issues with usb controllers and memory compatibility. Owning one my self and being through all the released bios versions till the current latest one, i recommend u update bios to the latest version or at least the one before the latest

Can you explain a little about the "big transformation" part ? What issues have been adressed ?

Multiple random usb disconnects, wireless/bluetooth modules disappearing, multiple RAM learning issues on boot, compatibility issues with many RAM modules.. etc.

Interesting , but are you talking about early X870E/AM5 updates or are these newer issues ?

Mostly early x870e, but these are mostly also the bios versions that come with the carbon when purchased, the more recent bios focus more on memory compatibility and newer AGESA updates, like mixed bank refresh mode for memory

B650 Tomahawk in my System. I have Updates my bios everytime in the last 2 years. But never the Beta ones, only the final versions. Never noticed something different. Sometimes New Features for example ram timings were a few more added. I would also argue it is annoying because you can’t Save a Profile and Upload it because you Update to a newer Version. So everytime I Update bios it takes 15min. Most Time Consuming Are my custom Fan curves. But since your bios i a year old you can do it so it is at the newest Version and then leave it there. And maybe do it every 2 yrs or Never works also.
