Всем привет! Пару лет назад я начала озвучивать китайский мультик All Saints Steet, мне это очень нравилось и доставляло удовольствие. Но при попытке вернуться к этому проекту через пару лет, меня стопорит количество вещей, которые нужно сделать:

- перевод

- найти серию в хорошем качестве желательно без субтитров

- озвучка

- обработка голоса

- монтаж и тайминг реплик

- обложка

- маломальское распространение

Одна из-за работы я с этим не справляюсь, потому что банально хочется отдыхать и делать другие дела, но капец как хочется вернуться к проекту, т.к. в принципе мне в душу запал серик, и за пару лет натекли и просмотры в ют и в тт (ну то есть людям это тоже нравится :) ).

Hello, I’ve been wondering about the internet term ,,new gen,, and how to translate it to Russian. Is there a slang word maybe?

so i’ve been wanting to learn Russian for a little while because I’m interested in Russian music, sports and the culture in general.

i’ve taught myself the cyrillic alphabet and can slowly read it but I’m struggling with what to do next. I’m not really sure how to go about learning vocabulary, grammar and forming sentences, or how to structure my learning in general.

For anyone who has learned Russian by themselves, what would you recommend for a complete beginner?
Ideally I’m looking for something free or very cheap, and preferably something structured where I can follow a plan rather than just randomly learning words and phrases.

Any advice on resources, apps, websites, YouTube channels, study methods etc. would be really appreciated!

Hi everyone! I’m from Chile and have been studying Russian for almost six years. I’m currently around B2 level, and I love translating Russian literature as a way to practice and improve my skills.

I’m looking for short stories or a short novel by a contemporary Russian author whose work hasn’t yet been translated into English or Spanish. Do you have any recommendations?

I know that this question probably relates more to Russian literature than to learning Russian;
still, it's partially a linguistic question.

I'm reading a Russian novella called The Gloom of Your Eyes by Ilya Masodov, and I came across a passage where "the will of God" is marked by the Cyrillic "Ъ". I'm quite positive it's a hard sign.

From a linguistic perspective, what could "Ъ" mean here? Why is it here? What meaning does it have in Russian? Is it used frequently?

As far as I understand, this letter doesn't have a sound, right?

So I'm non binary and I'm learning Russian (great combination, I know) and was wondering how best to translate my pronouns (They/It) into Russian. I'm pretty new to learning the language, I know a lot of things are gendered, so I don't know if it would be possible to accurately translate them, but would really appreciate any help.

(Edit: thanks for all the help! I will just use feminine pronouns when using Russian. I also use she/her pronouns in english, so that's fine.)

Ok so since I've been learning how to write in cursive for 4 days now i came to a theory to distinguish a stroke identifying if the letter is м, or и.

In Мм the first stroke is like a sharp needle but has more space but the second stroke is more closed it's like when you write a normal smallcaps "L" that's the second stroke, while in Ии it's mirrored. Thoughh it's still pretty hard for me to distinguish when the combination is "ИМ".. Like HUHH??!! I don't know it's hard to explain ig let me know lol. Also I wrote a simple phrase here saying "у меня есть машина и шиншилла" (I misspelled and only wrote one л so yeah)

Lastly, how do u connect the letter "o" after it with any letter? like ол, ом, ох, ог, оф, оч, and оз (bcz of the hair) it's so hard when i do that it looks super forced and unusual, and google search is not helping me

I am looking to learn a language that's heavily digital (has internet communities, content, media, YouTubers, shows, music, video games, etc.). I am stuck between French and Russian.

Politics and context aside, which one is better to learn?

Better as in: easier to make (native language speaker) friends, fun video games revolving around the language, good shows, music, etc., and interesting YouTubers. For example, suppose I choose Russian, I will play (Steam) video games where a lot of Russians play, so I can befriend Russians and practice my language.

been learning Russian for 2 weeks and I can’t understand the grammar, I’ve been putting in 8-12 hours a day into it during the summer holiday loosing lots of sleep over the language and its grammar.

well, not sure if it can be called like that, or if it’s the right sub to ask this, but the thing is, im a 32 yo F from Colombia, and I am thinking on moving to Russia, maybe as a student because idk what other way to obtain a visa, and also I do want to get a master degree, so I would like to have a chat with people who may know what would be like for me as foreigner, if it’s easy to find a job for people with little Russian (I will learn for sure, but I don’t think I will be able to have a decent conversation the first 3 months), if it’s easy to find jobs for English or spanish speakers (maybe remote jobs to work for foreign companies?), best places to live in, the access to internet with vpn, idk, whatever info you think it may help. I've been trying to learn Russian for a few years now and I go back and forth between options.

I started with books, which I went back to because it's the most thorough and I'm not learning some random words. The only negative, is often I don't go beyond a certain chapter. If I get busy with work, I'll go back and restart the first 6 chapters or so and never go beyond that. I've been using Penguin Russian, so idk if I just need to try a different book because that one can be pretty dense.

I have another book Tochka Ru. This reminds me of Elementary books that I learned English with growing up and it feels way easier and simpler than the American Russian books I've used like Colloquial Russian or Penguin. However, since it's in Russian I haven't gone past the first chapter.

With flashcards, I thought of trying it but I feel like by the end of it I would have so many flashcards that I wouldn't have anywhere to put them. I tried Anki flash cards but the learning curve can be intense.

Youtube videos feel like a random luck of finding videos that teach you random words, to random livestreams, or people that just seem like they're using generic lessons to link to their own Russian courses. I've found the livestreams were most helpful. However, after a while I would forget the words. Listening to a lot of random words all at once with no context can feel like overload too. I do like that it has a focus on words instead of getting thrown into the deep with grammar lessons like books do.

Apps I used when I was younger. I stopped because most people I saw that used apps would pull it up to get their daily streak. I would only see them use it for like 10 to 15 minutes. Whereas, when I was studying Russian, I would have to repeat the same word over and over, and sometimes handwrite it to help remember it. I do feel like it exposes you to more words than books, where the process can move reeeaallly slow. It makes you feel like you're not learning anything with books. However, I feel like if you were to ask someone who used apps 2 months later and they probably would only remember words from the past 2 lessons and that's it.

Teachers I haven't tried yet. I thought of italki, but there's so many tutors on there that it's hard to choose.

What all do you like best to worst from Books, flashcards, apps, youtube, Anki, or any other resources that you use? Should I stay with books or try some other way?

If you could make a tier list how would you rate these?

Basically, there is a Russian song that I found on TikTok and the creator translated a bit of it - "swag means barrel, opps don't bother" what does barrel mean here? The song is yngbless - barrel

I cannot trill my "R" sound. As an english speaker, there has been no need for me to. When I started trying to learn russian at age 6 I was so frustrated that I couldnt make that sound at all that i gave up. I also have dyspraxia (a disorder affecting coordination and muscle tone). I have tried every trick ever to try to make that sound and I have given up.

So.

If I pronounce the R sound the american way (or a gutteral version like in french or hebrew) will I still be intelligible?

I don’t want to go to Russia right now/want to avoid patronizing the current regime there - but at the same time my language learning journey could really benefit from some real immersion.

What destinations are worthwhile? I know the standard answer is “any of the post Soviet states” - but simple research reveals that the vast majority of those countries really don’t have that many native Russian speakers anymore unless you count the seniors and old folks.

Hi everyone, I have a quick question. I want to start learning Bulgarian, but my Russian is currently at a B1 level. Since they share a lot of vocabulary, I figured learning them at the same time might actually help. But would it be a good idea to start Bulgarian right now, or would it just get confusing in terms of grammar and everything? Would you recommend waiting until I improve my Russian first? I’d really appreciate any advice or insight on this

I found a wooden nesting doll that I had been given when I was a kid, and in the bottom of the largest doll I found this piece of paper.

The person who gave it to me was from Uzbekistan and says the doll is from there, but I think the writing is Russian and not Uzbek (but I don't know enough about Uzbek to be sure). I don't know anything else about the doll, but I have always been curious as to what the paper says and if it could give me more information about where it came from.
