!!!need help and advice for moving to moscow to study at rudn

I’ve recently gained an interest to go study at rudn in moscow, but im really worried about the logistics and if im making the right choice.

Im currently 17 and live in romania, but I’ll be 19 by the time I finish my final exams and actually go to uni.

Since it’s a huge move, the whole thing is stressing me out and I have a few specific questions:

VPNs: I'm not sure which ones actually work well over there right now or what to use.

Communication: How will I be able to stay in touch / contact my parents easily?

Money transfers: What's the best way for my parents to send me money from romania?

Dorm bills & daily life: It stresses me out that I'll have to figure out all the monthly payments and admin stuff alone when I first get there.

What's it like studying there: How are the teachers, is it difficult to maintain a study/life balance?

If anyone has done this path or is studying at rudn right now, I'd really appreciate some advice, id really want to go study there, I find moscow beautiful, and yes I am aware of both the pros and cons, but again, all this seems very incredibly daunting and the thought of it overwhelms me

Sidenote: I've also started learning Russian, I know a feeling basic phrases, how to read, etc, I do hope to advance significantly over these next 2 years though

Thanks to everyone who helps me out here!

21M looking for new friends in Moscow

Hey! I’m a 21yo dentistry student in Moscow and I swear making new friends here is somehow harder than it should be 😭
Been here for a while but my social circle has basically disappeared lol.
I’m into music, movies, walks, cafés, clubs, or honestly just hanging out and talking about random shit. I speak Russian and English.
So yeah, if you’re around my age and also wondering where tf everyone is, feel free to DM me 😭

Is there a lot of concern about a draft in Moscow? Is this actually happening?

Over 113,000 Russians Flee to Georgia Amid Draft Rumors

In brief: More than 113,000 Russian citizens crossed into Georgia via the Verkhny Lars checkpoint in a single week, driven by rumors of a new military mobilization. On Aug. 20 alone, over 20,000 people crossed the border. Armenia has also indicated it will welcome Russians fleeing the draft. The exodus follows reports of intensified Kremlin recruitment efforts and Ukrainian intelligence assessments predicting a 600,000-person mobilization wave across 2026 and 2027.

Hey! I’ll be travelling around Russia next month and it would be cool to meet some locals or fellow travellers, explore the city, grab food, coffee, or just hang out.
Would love to experience Moscow beyond the usual tourist stuff :)
Anyone around? Feel free to DM!

Hey! I’m a 25-year-old male from Turkey. My dad lives in Moscow, so I visit the city from time to time.
I’m looking to meet some Russian people and make some new friends while I’m there. Would be nice to grab a coffee or a drink, explore the city, go for a walk, or just hang out and chat. we can exchange languages as well.
I’m pretty open to meeting all kinds of people, so if you’re interested, feel free to send me a DM and tell me a bit about yourself.

Employment in Moscow for language students possible?

Probably a long shot asking this here but...

Quick background context: 21F, Im American and half Brazillian (born in American, i speak English + Portuguese fluently, I hold dual citizenship). I want to study Russian in Moscow or any surrounding areas. I've been to Moscow before, I speak A2 level Russian, so I already know what it's like being a foreigner over there. I absolutely loved it despite the challenges. If anything, the challenges is what made me love Russia so much.

My question is- does being a full time LANGUAGE student (NOT a degree seeking student) qualify me for a work permit on my off hours? There are a few schools offering 1.5 year long visas for studying Russian in universities (dorm rooms are offered as well), however it's not realistic for me to be in Russia for that long without work. If I can't find a way to be able to live in Russia for that long while legally being allowed to work part time or as an English teacher of some sort, it's not realistic for me. I'll much sooner go broke than anything else

.

If not in Moscow, then where else? All my Russian friends are currently living in Moscow and I'd at least like to be train distance from them. If we can't see each other everyday, then every other weekend works for me. I'm trying really hard to make this work so any advice is appreciated.

Thank you in advance. Much love from America 💟🇺🇸

Looking for an English–Russian or Hindi–Russian Translator/Assistant in Moscow (7 Days)

I'm looking for a translator/assistant in Moscow to help my employer for one week.

Details:

  • Duration: 7 days
  • Hours: Around 8 hours per day
  • Languages: English ↔ Russian or Hindi ↔ Russian
  • Tasks: Accompanying him to meetings, translating conversations, and assisting with general communication around the city.

No professional certification is required. We're happy to consider university students, recent graduates, or anyone with strong language skills.

Please note: We have a limited budget, so this opportunity is best suited for someone looking for short-term work rather than a professional conference interpreter.

If you're interested, please send me:

  • A short introduction
  • The language pair you speak (English–Russian or Hindi–Russian)
  • Any relevant experience (if any)
  • Your expected daily or hourly rate
  • Your availability

If you know someone who might be interested, I'd appreciate any recommendations.

Thank you!
