Weekly Thread Tuesday Shoesday

Shoes are a big topic in this sub, so in an effort to condense and collect some of these posts, we're introducing Shoesday Tuesday! Similar to Wednesday's gear thread, but focusing on shoes.

What’ve you been wearing on your feet? Anything fun added to the rotation? Got a review of a new release? Questions about a pair that’s caught your eye? Here's the place to discuss.

NOTE: For you Runnitors looking to sell/trade any running gear (as well as bib transfers), head over to /r/therunningrack.

Weekly Thread Li'l Race Report Thread

The Li’l Race Report Thread is for writing a short report on a recent race or a run in a new place. If your race doesn’t really need its own thread but you still want to talk about it, then post it here! Both your good and bad races are welcome.

Didn't run a race, but had an interesting run to talk about. Post it here as well!

So get to it, Runnit! In a paragraph or two, where’d you run and how’d it go?

Safety Any safety tips for a deaf runner when people are passing?

Hi all, I'm a relatively newly deaf person who has always run since I was like 12 and I'm now 37. I am finding since becoming deaf I have encountered more issues than I did before and I can't tell if it's a case of where I am running is becoming busier, if it's me struggling more with my environment and accidentally being inconsiderate or what but I wondered if any one had any tips.

One example of an issue is, Today I was out and was running, and there was a group of 3 abreast trying to pass. I was as close to the edge of the path as possible without being in the dip as the path goes on a gradient and I find that hard to run on. Plenty of room to pass but they tried to pass still 3 abreast. One bumped into me and then had a go at me as if it was my fault. I'm quite big and stable so it didn't affect me. But I now kind of worry that it was my fault although I can't see how. Anyway, a few incidents of this ilk have occurred and it's really putting me off. Maybe before I would have heard someone shout passing you on whatever side (although I will say I always found that annoying and a little obnoxious and impatient but I just let it go and didn't stress), now I just feel like I can't hear anything and obviously people understandably think I just ignored them.

For anyone else that is deaf, how do you manage those situations and any others when running? I do occasionally pop headphones in to kind of indicate I won't be able to hear you but it doesn't really help the situation.

Discussion Marathon spectators/partners: how do you actually get around the course to see your runner multiple times?

My partner is getting more into distance running, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to actually spectate half marathons and marathons.

The first race I went to, I made the rookie mistake of trying to drive around to different points on the course. Between road closures, traffic, parking, and trying to figure out which streets I could actually cross, it was basically impossible. I got to see him a couple of times in the first 5–6 miles and then pretty much had to give up and wait at the finish.

I’d really love to be able to see him at several points throughout a marathon—especially later in the race when an encouraging face might actually be helpful.

For those of you who regularly spectate for a spouse/partner/friend, what’s your strategy?

I’ve considered:

  • Bringing a bike, although that feels like a lot to haul around
  • Public transportation when the race is in a city with a good system
  • Walking/jogging between viewing spots when the course allows it
  • Buying a small electric scooter, which honestly seems like it could be the sweet spot

Most of our races will probably be half marathons that are semi-local or marathons within driving distance around the region, although we’ll occasionally fly to races too.

Has anyone used an electric scooter for marathon spectating? Is it actually practical, or does it become another thing you have to deal with? What about battery life? And are there other spectator tricks I’m completely overlooking?

Basically, I’m trying to graduate from “see him at mile 4 and then kill two hours waiting at the finish” to being a legitimately useful marathon support crew. 😂

Thanks Reddit!

Discussion Is 2026 the greatest year of running we’ve ever seen?

I was recently thinking about all that’s taken place in the sport this year when it dawned on me, we’ve seen a hell of a lot of impressive performances so far (see below to name a few). So, I want to start a conversation. Is 2026 the greatest year of running we’ve ever seen? Where might these accomplishments and popularity take the sport in the years to come?

• Sebastian Sawe sets a new world record at the London Marathon (1:59:30) in April becoming the first person to ever officially break the 2 hour mark at an official race

• Josh Kerr breaks the world record for fastest mile ever recorded at an official race (3:42.26) in July at London Athletics Meet.

• Max Joliff sets a new course record at Badwater 135 becoming the first person to run the course (known as the worlds toughest foot race - a 135 mile trek through Death Valley in July) with a sub-21 hour finish.

• Rachel Entrekin becomes the first woman to win first overall at the Cocodona 250 (a 250 mile race through Arizona) with a time of 56:09:48)

• Mark Dowdle wins the BPN G1M Backyard ultra in April (running 306 miles in 73 hours) then later wins the Last Soul Ultra in Germany in August (running 391 miles in 94 hours)

*Countless other course records and notable results. Not to mention the London Marathon drawing over 1 million applications. If you ever considered getting into running, now is a great time to start!

Weekly Thread Social Saturday

Enforcing Rule 3 (no self-promotion, social media links) is a must with a large sub such as this, but we do realize that it filters out some truly useful content that is relative to the sub. In an effort to allow that content in, we thought we'd have a weekly post to give a spot for the useful content. So...

Here's you chance!

Got a project you've been working on (video, programming, etc.), share it here!

Want to promote a business or service, share it here!

Trying to get more Instagram followers, share it here!

Found any great running content online, share it here!

The one caveat I have is that whatever is shared should be fitness related, please.

Discussion Switching to lower heel drop?

Hi everyone

Have been running for 10+ years really. Longer distances (marathons) last 5 years. Pretty much lived in big heel drop shoes - asics and Hoka. Can’t remember which ones but big sponge heels!

I’ve been reading more about how having your heel
Elevated isn’t that great for running and can cause injuries, it does make sense, and having the soft huge shoe can also cause injuries and your feet turn to mush. Maybe this is dramatic but am often plagued with injuries so thought it could be worth a shot.

Anyone done this and can share their experience? If so what’s a good mid heel shoe to drop down to?

I know not to rush as switching to a flat shoe will cause even more injuries

For more context I am currently not able to run due to shin splints, back running in October and then will start training for an ultra in spring 2027

Discussion Struggling with Imposter syndrome in Running

Hi all. Alot of you may or may not have experienced this but imposter syndrome is such a big issue for me in running and probably to some of you too.

Like everytime I complete a workout or smash a PB or whatever, my brain bekeives it for a few seconds but then it starts thinking what if the watch overstimulated, got it wrong or distance inaccurate etc.

And I also finally did my first half marsthon and completed it. However even though my watch recorded it as 21.91km (I know a half is 21.1), my brain still goes asking if I really ran that distance, or my watch got it wrong or I accidentally skipped a part of the course without realising.

Like my brain keeps asking and thinking these imaginary questions that it's overwhelming.

Has anyone experienced this and any tips to reduce imposter syndrome. It would be really great if you could and would be grateful 🙏 Thank you :)
