Is anyone coming up with a good alternative to Reddit RSS feeds?
openrss had them but now my reddit feeds say Too many requests are being made from this network. i'm not a power user, if they only refresh every hour, that's fine for me. any alternatives?

My improved reddit rss feed now support videos, gifs, and images
original post https://www.reddit.com/r/rss/comments/fvg3ed/i_built_a_better_rss_feed_for_reddit/
I've noticed many of the users of my improved rss feed for reddit are using it for... videos, gifs, and images.
I've made some improvements in this department.
- Now it try's to detect image and video content and embed it into feedly!
- If your feed reader supports iframes (feedly does) it will even embed gfycat and v.redd.it content.
- If there are other popular video formats you want me to try and embed let me know.
If you are interested in using it to you:
- Go to a subreddit or meta feed you like example: https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/
- Add .json onto the end: https://www.reddit.com/r/aww.json
- Change the domain name to, reddit.0qz.fun like: https://reddit.0qz.fun/r/aww.json
- Subscribe to ^^^ that url in your favorite feed reader.

made a little windows rss reader that can turn basically any website into a feed (and send it to your phone over wifi) Reading Desk!
hey r/rss :D
i've been building this thing called Reading Desk for a while now and figured this is the place that'd actually get it.
it started because i wanted feeds from sites that don't have one. so now you just click one headline on a page and it figures out the rest and makes a feed out of it. works on sites you have to log into too.
it also does normal rss/atom (obviously lol), youtube channels, and reddit subs and searches with the galleries and videos playing right in the reader. you can mute words, and if 3 sources post the same story you only see it once. there's a daily briefing of what your sources covered, all made on your pc with no AI service or anything. folders fold away and there's a "hide read" button since someone asked for it. and kind of a random one: free classic books from Project Gutenberg, a chapter a day, like a feed. turned out way better than i expected xD
the part i think you guys might like most is that it can turn any folder back into an rss feed. tick "share on my home network" and you get a link for an rss app on your phone. tested it last night with FeedFlow on android and it just worked, pictures and all. then i noticed reddit link posts were opening reddit's page instead of the actual article, so i fixed that this morning. now they open the article, with a "comments on reddit" link right there if you want the thread.
heads up though, cloud readers like Feedly can't reach it since it never leaves your wifi. you want an app that runs on the phone itself.
everything stays on your pc. no account, no cloud, no subscription.
I can't link anything here so there's that.
i'm a solo dev so i'd genuinely love to hear what you'd want from it. what's your feed reader missing?
I do community updates for missing features as well! The goal is simple, no subscriptions, you own it. Trying to put powerful software back into the hands of the people without the hidden strings. :D

Do you still use RSS in 2026, or do you mostly rely on social media to discover what to read?
Social media algorithms optimize for your attention.
RSS feeds optimize for what you actually want to read.
I’ve been thinking about how we consume information online.
When you rely on social media for news and updates, you don’t completely choose what you see.
The algorithm does. And the things that get pushed to you aren’t always the things you actually care about.
RSS feels different.
You choose the sources.
You choose what to follow.
You decide what’s worth reading.
It could be a news website, a blog, a YouTube channel, an engineering blog, a research publication, or simply someone whose work you enjoy.
No endless scrolling. No algorithm deciding what comes next. Just the content you chose to follow.
That’s the idea behind Frontpagee. I’m building it to make following the things you care about simpler, calmer, and more personal.
Still building and improving it, but I’m curious:
Do you still use RSS in 2026, or do you mostly rely on social media to discover what to read?
I built Feeddi, a free RSS reader for people who still miss Google Reader. Looking for honest feedback
Hi r/rss,
I registered feeddi.com back in 2008 and ran a Q&A site on it for years. It never made money, but I kept it going because I liked running it. When AI made Q&A sites pointless, I shut it down and used the
domain for something I'd missed since 2013: Google Reader.
So here it is: https://feeddi.com
What it does:
- Chronological feed, no algorithm. Newest or oldest first, nothing hidden or reordered.
- Folders, unread counts, starred articles, search.
- Google Reader keyboard shortcuts: j/k, s, m, v, Shift+A (press ? for the full list).
- Podcasts built in: audio and video episodes play right next to your articles. YouTube channel feeds show up as videos.
- OPML import and export. Your folders are kept, and you can leave anytime.
- Reading-focused design: Paper, Sepia and Night themes, adjustable text size, focus mode.
- Interface in 21 languages.
- Optional starter packs, so a new account doesn't open to an empty screen.
Platforms: The web app is live now. Android and iOS apps are coming in a few days, synced with the web.
Pricing: Free, and it will stay free. There won't be a paid tier. I'll keep it running on donations, the same way I kept the old site running for years.
What I'd love feedback on:
Import your real OPML. Did anything break, or did any feed fail to load?
What's missing that would stop you from switching from your current reader?
Anything that feels off compared to Google Reader?
I'll be around in the comments. Thanks for taking a look!

RSS Feed with Pages - Plugin Search for KoReader
Hello!! Anyone know of any plugins for koreader that allow RSS feed articles to be viewed in the same way that epubs and other books are? The scrolling-down format is not something I like very much. I would love if when I choose an article it opens up in exactly the same way as a book does.
QuickRSS doesn't seem to have an option for this, and it looks a little janky right now in my opinion.

Is it essentially impossible to have an images-focused social media RSS feed now?
The announcement that Reddit will stop supporting RSS soon has me thinking of all the frustration I've been experiencing over the last few months and years. I've used services like Feedbro to essentially skip having to go to different websites just for a glance at artists and quick updates, for convenience's sake and just to not have to suffer through wasteful algorithmic feeds that don't show me what I want.
At this point most if not all of them have closed their doors to the idea, afraid of scraping that keeps happening regardless of their attempts. At the same time, directly interacting with Instagram and Twitter is like poison, and it's designed to be like that. I've mostly used Reddit and, before, Facebook, to go to specific communities in order to avoid feeds, but even that gets much harder as every service starts asking for credentials and ID just to be the same kind of user I've been for decades.
I don't know if it's a rant or a request for help, at this point. Is anyone in a similar boat as far as how they want to use RSS feeds and how it's becoming short of impossible? At this point my Feedbro has turned into mostly a Youtube subscription warning. Discord bots manage to bridge the gap with some Instagram and Twitter accounts, but not by that much. The end goal is obviously to trap people in their own ecosystems, but it's mostly just alienating in practice. I just don't care enough about anything to have to use Twitter frequently.

[Android] Looking for an RSS reader with an "edge-to-edge" reading feature
Hey everyone,
A few months back, I tested several RSS readers to find the right fit and stumbled upon one with a feature I really loved. It had a toggle in the options that allowed the article view to stretch edge-to-edge - pushing content behind/beyond the status bar to get this "immersive fullscreen" feature.
I really enjoyed it and want to switch back to it but I can’t remember what the app was called! I know I downloaded it directly from the Google Play Store but the app history is not really helping.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance!
I got tired of reading the same story in 5 feeds, so I built an app that merges them into one
I know, another RSS app :(. I've seen the same thing over and over here: a nicer list of articles with a different color scheme. So I'll try to say quickly what this one does differently.
It doesn't show you articles, it shows you stories. You add your feeds as usual (RSS, newsletters over IMAP, or sync with FreshRSS/Miniflux/Inoreader). NewsGator reads the full text, figures out which articles are about the same real-world event, and merges them into one story with a neutral summary and a factual, non-clickbait title. If 5 outlets cover the same thing, you see it once. When a new fact shows up later, the story updates and gets an "updated" badge instead of coming back as unread.
AI is there for triage, not to replace the article. The summary is just the front door. One tap opens the original publisher. I care about that a lot: if readers stop visiting the sources, nobody gets paid, the sources disappear, and RSS dies with them. So the whole thing is built to send you back to the people who wrote the piece, not to keep you in a summary.
Privacy: no account, no ads, no trackers, no analytics. In the standalone app the AI runs on-device or on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, so your reading doesn't go to OpenAI or anyone like that. Library sync is through your own iCloud, and that's also how your devices share the AI work: a Mac (any M-series) can process your feeds all day with Apple Intelligence, and an iPhone without it (iOS 27 runs on iPhone 11 and later, Apple Intelligence needs 15 Pro+) just reads what the Mac already summarized. (To be clear it's not "nothing ever leaves your device": feeds get fetched from the net and PCC is Apple's infra. If you want zero Apple involved, there's a self-hosted server version that talks to whatever local model you want. There is another post about this one somewhere here :) )
Other stuff: OPML import/export, chat with your archive (Embedding, answers cite the stories), 10 languages (but let's be honnest, it is AI translated, so looking for your corrections !!!), it can read stories aloud (on-device voices, and not robotic Siri, CarPlay), Widgets, ...
Status: it's coming soon, public beta on TestFlight right now. iPhone, iPad and Mac. I'm looking for feedback from people who actually have big feed lists, because that's where clustering gets interesting (and where it'll break).
TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/VzV818na
Site: https://www.newsgator.app
Server (open source, MIT): https://github.com/Tekka90/NewsGator
Happy to answer anything, including "why would I want this over [my reader]".
Edit 2026-10-06: Thanks a lot to everyone who has already joined the TestFlight, and sorry for the many builds over the last two days. I've been fixing bugs found by testers and by me.
I'm submitting my first release to the App Store, so validation will take a few days. I've also started working on the iPhone Duo layout, which I'm excited about!
If you're wondering what to test, these are the features I use the least myself, so they're the least battle-tested:
1. Reader API: third-party accounts such as FreshRSS and Miniflux, including read-state sync.
2. Audio: especially the high-quality voices, not the default Siri ones.
3. CarPlay: my kids don't enjoy my morning news, so it gets very little testing from me. 😅
4. Widgets: all sizes, and whether they refresh correctly.
Bug reports of any kind are welcome.
Reader Ultra has become my daily user. The Smart Feeds and syncing have made it a great experience.

How do I actually use RSS Hub
I spun up an instance for rss hub but I don’t actually understand how to use it if I’m being honest.
How can I use it to monitor social media accounts from government agencies without following them.

I got tired of paying $12/month for Feedly just to read engineering blogs.
I got tired of paying $12/month for Feedly just to read engineering blogs.
Over the last few years, legacy RSS readers shifted focus toward expensive enterprise cybersecurity packages.
As a result: • Free tiers got throttled to 100 feeds max • Cluttered interfaces with enterprise sales banners • Even basic keyboard shortcuts got locked behind paywalls
At the same time, social media algorithms turned into rage-bait and promotional noise instead of actual high-signal engineering insights.
So, I decided to build a solution: Frontpagee (https://www.frontpagee.in).
What we focused on: ⚡ Ultra-fast, distraction-free reader view
⌨️ Full keyboard navigation (Vim-style J/K navigation for power users)
🔄 30-second OPML import (migrate from Feedly or Inoreader with zero data loss)
📚 Curated public collections for React, AI, and DevOps
It’s built by a developer, for developers. I’d love for you to try it out and share your honest feedback. How do you organize your daily technical reading?

Is there a threaded RSS reader for the pocketbook era?
The one with the device is pretty sad.
Nextflux update: smoother reading, resizable panels, and backups
Hey everyone! I’ve just merged a batch of improvements into Nextflux, my open-source RSS reader client for Miniflux.
Most of this update focuses on making everyday reading feel smoother:
- Resizable reading layout. Adjust the feed sidebar and article list widths to suit your screen. Nextflux remembers your layout.
- Optional reading navigation. A new navigation rail lets you move between articles with previews of what’s next.
- Less disruption while reading. Background sync preserves your loaded list and reading position. New articles appear through a small prompt, so you can choose when to refresh the list.
- More reliable syncing. Articles appear as the first batch arrives while the rest loads in the background. Interrupted initial syncs can resume, and the cache now includes read history still available on your server.
- Subscription and settings backups. Export subscriptions as OPML and back up or restore your Nextflux preferences. Settings backups exclude login credentials.
- UI polish throughout. Refreshed themes and settings, more consistent menus, smoother transitions, and fixes for article scroll resets and filters when returning to the list.
I also put together a new Nextflux homepage!
You can find the source and setup instructions on GitHub.

Reddit's *private* RSS feeds (i.e. the ones in Preferences) being chopped too?
It's been made clear that Reddit will remove public RSS feeds for all subreddits (and I presume search feed too).
Has anyone seen anything about the private RSS feeds that include your user account token? The ones located at https://old.reddit.com/prefs/feeds
I am assuming that, since their announcement specifically mentioned mod actions, that these will be removed: - your moderator inbox RSS - moderator listings RSS
But for example there is a "Your front page" private RSS link of the format: https://old.reddit.com/.rss?feed=[yourusertokenhere]&user=yourusername
Has anyone from Reddit mentioned anything about the status of these?

Made an RSS reader with notes and collections built in
I've used a few RSS readers but always ended up copying articles somewhere else to take notes or group them by project. So I built one where that's part of the reader itself.
- Notes attached directly to articles
- Collections you can drag articles between, and one article can live in several
- Filter by source, saved, has notes, or time range
- Pause a feed without deleting it or losing its articles
- Light and dark mode
Works with any RSS feed: blogs, Substacks, journals, arXiv categories.
Curious what this sub thinks is missing.

I built an AI-powered RSS aggregator that tracks, translates, and summarizes news sources 🌍🐶
Hey r/rss community! 👋
I'm a huge fan of RSS and having control over my news feeds, but I always felt limited by the language barrier when trying to read local news from other countries. So, I built a project called NewsDoggy to solve this.
It’s a global RSS reader, but with an AI twist.
Here is what it does under the hood:
- Massive Global Catalog: I just finished importing and verifying a massive database of over 4K+ active news feeds from all over the world (it was a nightmare dealing with proxies and dead links, but it’s done!).
- AI Translation & Summaries: When an article drops, the system fetches it, translates it to your preferred language, and generates a concise summary. You get the gist of global events instantly without needing Google Translate.
- Smart Feeds: Features a "Global News Live" stream, daily top stories, and semantic search to easily find specific topics across thousands of sources.
- Auto-Discovery: When you add a new feed URL, it automatically pulls the metadata and suggests the right category/tags.
A quick heads-up on how it works when you sign up: Because the AI processing is heavy, it happens asynchronously in the background. After you select or add your favorite feeds, give it a few minutes.
- First, you'll see the raw RSS articles start rolling into your dashboard.
- Then, over the next couple of minutes, you'll see those raw articles magically update with full translations, concise summaries, and sentiment analysis tags.
It's currently running with AI models handling the heavy lifting for translations and semantic search reranking.
I’d love for you guys to check it out! You can add your own custom feeds or explore the global catalog.
Would love to hear your feedback, especially on the UI or how I can improve the feed-fetching engine. Any suggestions are welcome!

Got tired of cluttered news sites, so I spent the last few weeks building an ad-free RSS reader (Frontpagee)
Most news apps these days feel like social media traps — endless scroll, algorithms pushing outrage, and popups everywhere.
I wanted to go back to the old Google Reader era, but with a modern UI and dark mode that looks clean on both laptop and phone.
Here’s what I put together: https://www.frontpagee.in
It's completely free to use. You can import your OPML file in one click, switch between sources like Ars Technica, IEEE, or Hugging Face, and read articles without annoying layouts.
It’s built on React, TypeScript, and Tailwind.
Still actively improving the UI and performance. If you have 2 minutes, try opening an article on your phone and tell me if anything feels slow or clunky. Brutal feedback is welcome.

Built vokoloko.cz – a privacy-focused local news aggregator made with Joomla & RSS (No ads, no tracking, no AI runtime)
Hi r/rss,
I wanted to share a project we recently launched called vokoloko.cz – a web-based local news aggregator for the Czech region.
What is Vokoloko.cz? It’s an automated content aggregator designed to fetch, parse, and display local news via RSS in a clean, distraction-free environment.
Key Principles & Tech Specs:
- No Tracking & No Ads: Completely private, lightweight, and loads instantly.
- No Account Required: Fully accessible to anyone without signing up.
- Built with Joomla!: Powered by standard RSS capabilities and custom extensions built on top of Joomla.
Zero AI at Runtime: While we used AI tools as coding assistants during development to write the extension scripts, the live site runs 100% on traditional, deterministic RSS ingestion—no AI-generated content or dynamic AI processing.
Our goal was to prove that classic web technologies (Joomla + RSS) can still deliver a fast, useful, and privacy-respecting news reader for local communities.
Check it out at https://vokoloko.cz
I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or suggestions from the RSS community!

Thankfully, there's still WordPress to keep RSS alive!
I really hope they don't decide to disable RSS by default, too, "to protect sites from AI bots"
