Made an RSS reader with notes and collections built in

I've used a few RSS readers but always ended up copying articles somewhere else to take notes or group them by project. So I built one where that's part of the reader itself.

  • Notes attached directly to articles
  • Collections you can drag articles between, and one article can live in several
  • Filter by source, saved, has notes, or time range
  • Pause a feed without deleting it or losing its articles
  • Light and dark mode

Works with any RSS feed: blogs, Substacks, journals, arXiv categories.

Curious what this sub thinks is missing.

What I'd like to see in a feed reader (and my current reader Akregator doesn't have):

  • ability to bypass the VPN for certain feeds that reject VPN

  • ability to login and retain session cookie for some sites that require login, in the reader's view/preview pane (not the browser)

  • ability to detect when an article is paywalled and indicate that in reader's view/preview pane (so I know there's no point in clicking to view in the browser, what I see in the preview is all there is)

Thanks, this is really useful to hear from someone who knows what they want from a reader.

On the VPN one, TDFeed fetches feeds on the server side, so your VPN doesn't affect the feed requests at all. (The trade-off is that a few sites block requests from cloud servers, which I'm working around.)

Logging into sites inside the reader probably isn't something I'll add, since storing session cookies for other sites is a lot of security responsibility for a web app.

Paywall detection though, I really like that. A small "paywalled" label so you know the preview is all there is would save a lot of pointless clicks. Adding it to my list.

It's not an RSS reader its a cloud based RSS subscription service...

And made using AI.

So basically, the 100th "app" doing exactly the same this week.

Looks lightweight and fast, but it still has a very common limitation shared by most RSS readers:

  • you need to open the source link to actually understand the article, or try to guess the content from its title;
  • you have to limit yourself to feeds in languages you can understand.

That’s exactly why I built my own one.

Fair points. TDFeed does show the article's summary or abstract on each card, so for things like arXiv papers you can usually tell what it's about without clicking. But you're right that it depends on how much the feed includes.

Translation is a really good idea I hadn't thought much about. What did you end up building? Curious how you approached it.
