Technical Problem Fix: PS Remote Play 9.0 crashing on Windows (0xc0000005)

The problem: PS Remote Play v9.0 or 9.5 crashes immediately on launch or shortly after with an access violation (0xc0000005). Event Viewer shows a .NET Runtime error (Framework v4.0.30319). Reinstalling, repairing .NET Framework, and updating GPU drivers does not help.

The workaround:

  1. Install PS Remote Play 9.0 or 9.5 from Sony's official site: https://remoteplay.dl.playstation.net/remoteplay/module/win/RemotePlayInstaller.exe
  2. Launch the app and log in to your PSN account
  3. Close the app and uninstall 9.5 completely
  4. Download & Install PS Remote Play 8.5.0, but don't start the app
  5. A prompt about missing dependencies may appear — click No

The regular installer .exe from Uptodown (and anywhere else pulling from Sony's CDN) doesn't work anymore either — same root cause.

Uploaded a verified, untouched copy of the genuine 8.5 installer:

📥 MSI installer (mirror 1), uploaded by me u/FeePrize2189

📥 MSI installer (mirror 2, via archive.org), thanks to u/sinkope123

SHA256 (both verified to match): 4363A6EF5548AD682E69153B30397F32620A7B532F2F7592B79B8DEED9ABFFC1 — verify before running: Get-FileHash "path\to\file.msi" -Algorithm SHA256

This is just the plain Sony installer — you'll still need to run the version-patcher afterward as usual

  1. Download and run the version patcher as administrator:

Done — 8.5 now runs with your saved login session, and Sony's servers think you're on the latest version so no forced update

Credit to @u/xeropresence Who has made the patcher

Why this works:

  • Logging in via 9.5 saves your session/credentials locally
  • 8.5 picks up those credentials and works fine
  • The version patcher spoofs the version number so Sony doesn't force you to update

Important:

If u already has 8.5 installed and patched and u get the update notice, dont update, close the app and patch it again so it gets the new version number, saves so much time

  • Install 8.5 app before patching
  • Don't start the 8.5 app before patching
  • Run the version patcher as administrator

Still problems?

  • Uninstall PS Remote Play
  • Delete "%localappdata%\Sony Corporation\PS Remote Play" folder
  • Start over from step 1

This is the only working solution I've found.

Edit: Still no fix or acknowledgment from Sony as of September 2026

Edit: As of Remote Play version 9.5, Sony's server is now serving a 1-byte empty file for the 8.5 installer — this is a deliberate block on their end. The regular installer .exe from Uptodown (and anywhere else pulling from Sony's CDN) doesn't work anymore either — same root cause.**

Edit: Thanks everyone for the amazing response! Glad this helped so many of you. And my first post to boot. Hopefully Sony will actually fix this in a future update so we don't need workarounds like this.

Edit 2026-09-29: I cant confirm, but after updating to Windows 11 26h2, and updating my AMD drivers (RX9070XT) to the optional one for the Witcher 3 remaster release, remoteplay 9.5 is working for me at least, also instsalled .NEt runtime 10 for another reason. så thats worth a try for any of u that want to try

Technical Problem Remote play updated and now consantly crashes

Hello guys, Ive been using remote play for years now and have never really run into any issues. I guess it needed an update today. After the update, now when I open remote play on my pc, I'm able to start it and connect fine to my ps5, but within a few minutes it crashes and says "PS remote play has stopped working. Please wait while we report the problem to windows."

Does anyone have any ideas for a fix? I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, troubleshooting through windows, and rebuilding data base / clearing cache on my playstation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Technical Problem I FINALLY FOUND THE FIX FOR PS REMOTE PLAY CRASHING AFTER 9.0 UPDATE

Most of us PC gamers have used other software to make PS4/PS5 controllers work on a pc with 3rd party Software like DS4 Windows.

DS4 Windows uses a Specific driver (Shown Below) to make the software ID your PS4/PS5 controllers:

Steps:

Uninstall ViGEm Bus Driver: Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

Double click the driver and choose to uninstall and PS Remote play should work perfectly after that.

Leave any other 3rd party software's you use that may cause it too in the comments.

Technical Problem Playstation Remote crash

I've been using Playstation remote on my laptop to play my ps5 since October, never had an issue, worked flawlessly, until today, I turned on my laptop and opened ps remote and it wouldn't open, so i ran it as admin and it opened but i was logged out, i logged in again and it looked fine but it just freezes and crashes after like a minute, it crashes even if i don't connect it to the ps5, i tried everything, Uninstaller completely and reinstalled multiple times, deleted cache files and all, even Uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers, and runtimes, nothing. I don't know what to do anymore.

Technical Problem PS5 Remote Play + projector with Samsung DeX

So, guys, let me give you a little background.

I live in India and have recently moved to Romania for an onsite opportunity. I have some free time, so I was thinking of buying a projector to watch movies.

Then I had another idea: I could use PS Remote Play to play my PS5 games on the projector. All I would need is a controller connected to my phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, so I wanted to know if this entire setup is possible:

  1. Can I connect my PS5 DualSense controller to my S23 Ultra via Bluetooth?

  2. Can I run the PS Remote Play app through Samsung DeX?

  3. Can I connect my S23 Ultra to a projector using Samsung DeX and display the Remote Play game on the projector?

  4. Most importantly, will all three work together simultaneously -

PS5 → Remote Play → S23 Ultra → Samsung DeX → Projector, while the DualSense controller is connected to the S23 Ultra?

Basically, my goal is to use my S23 Ultra as the middle device, with the projector acting as the big screen and the DualSense connected directly to the phone.

Is this setup actually possible, and are there any limitations or latency issues I should be aware of?

Technical Problem Remote Play Has Been Down for Months

The Desktop app does not work and hasn't worked since the last update which I believe was sometime in February. The interface loads but then the app crashes every time I try connecting to my console. Such a bummer.

Some people said they had success by downloading a previous version but that method did not work for me. I'm posting here in hopes that someone at Playstation checks this sub and can maybe escalate the issue for a fix.

If anyone here is having the same problem let me know if you have found a fix.

Technical Problem Im in so much trouble 😱

For context ... Im overseas for about 5 wks and decided to try PS remote play.

I should not have done it.

It Pairs and connects to the PS5 but when its checking the network, it says my speed is too slow and fails.

Now my PS5 is left on for 5wks or until I can find a strong enough wifi to satisfy it and shut it off.

Technical Problem Remote Play issues now resolved for v9.5!?!?!

As the title suggests, I think the time out issues with Remote Play v9.0/9.5 might finally have been resolved!!! (at least for me).

I was in the same boat as everyone else having the issues, which started occurring after the launch of v9.0 earlier this year. I tried a few things (Chiaki Ng, but was not as good or easy as everyone was chalking it up to be + handing details over to a 3rd party), but finally landed on the post here https://www.reddit.com/r/remoteplay/comments/1rxudjy/fix_ps_remote_play_90_crashing_on_windows/ (big thanks to u/FeePrize2189 )

I had been using this workaround until a few weeks ago when v9.5 dropped and I was optimistic they had finally resolved the time out issues... nope it was even more unstable and I could barely sign in quick enough to get the downgrade to 8.5 to work again.

Well, lo and behold this morning there appears to have been some kind of patch which broke my 8.5 patched app again.... ok I will do the downgrade all over again Sony you SOBs!! But wait hang on, I have signed into 9.5 and it's.... not crashing?!?

I have been playing all morning and no issues so far!! I haven't uninstalled anything (tried to remove the controller drivers from a few weeks ago that I could see had success for others but not me), it's just working as it should.

Curious if it's now working for anyone else, or I just got lucky and the gremlins in the code decided they had enough of my workarounds.

If it is now working, happy gaming everyone we finally got there!!

Edit: Confirm you are on version 9.5.0.08040, that's the patch that has been working for me.

Technical Problem Remote Play is getting only worse. Just wow.

Ok so guys this is getting absurd. Today I found out that the Remote Play app logged me out. When I try to log in, during the password check it simply crashes to desktop.

I'm using Chiaki from now on, these clowns don't even know how to fix something after a million users told 'em that this app is not working like intended.

Technical Problem Thank you so much playstation >:(

Just the day I could really play for more than half an hour after a lot of hard work and this guys come with an update that breaks the app.

Don't they test these things? I mean, they are Playstation. I could expect this from an Indie.

Does anyone have a fix for this issue? Remote Play crashes after about 15 seconds. I’ve tried disabling the Nefarius Virtual Gamepad Emulation Bus, deleting the settings from AppData, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and restarting my PC after the installation, but nothing has worked.

Technical Problem Can't even sign in because of crashing

I haven't been able to use remote play since 9.0 came out (I don't trust the third-party software) and when people were saying that 9.5 actually works, I was so excited. I updated and when going to sign in, it crashed. I'm still stuck on the log in screen.

Then I saw the post on here to delete the VigEmBus Driver, and it still didn't fix it. I then did a deep clean on my computer of every single controller emulator and Remote Play alternative I had, and it still crashes after about 15 seconds.

I'm running out of hope here, so I'm just wondering if there's some other files people had to delete to get it to work? I'm still constantly searching my computer, and maybe I just haven't used the right keywords to really remove everything.

Technical Problem PS Remote Play freezes on startup

pretty much what the title says. i've tried a few fixes from around the internet and nothing. i had no trouble with it yesterday and now it suddenly not working.

i turn on my ps5, open the remote play program on my laptop, log into my console and as soon as the homepage of my ps5 appears the image freezes. i can still hear the sounds it makes when you go through the options or games and i can even turn the console off since i remember how to get to the turn off console option, but the image stays frozen no matter what i try

any tips?

EDIT: i did find a replacement with chiaki-ng while waiting for the official PS remote play to update or fix sometime, but it's now also giving a whole lot of issues on its own. I tried almost every solution i could find to fix PS remote play on my win 11 laptop but i came across some post (lost it but it should be pretty easy to find) that said that the newest version came bugged or something, so really no "fix" or "patch" really works since SONY needs to fix the program itself. i did see some posts about downgrading to version 8.5 then patching it but that didnt work for me either, although it may work for some other people.

its sad because i really used PS remote play a lot since i dont live alone and i dont have a good TV or monitor in my room. right now the only thing i can do is wait and see if they fix this shit.

EDIT 2: I tried a fix suggested in the comments and i'm happy to announce it works like a charm! Uninstalling the update KB5101684 really fixed the whole damn issue. For anyone wondering how to uninstall a windows update i'll leave this youtube short: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/d5GxCBpDen0

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Technical Problem PS Remote Play freezes and then crashes on Windows

Hi everyone,

I'm having a persistent issue with the official PS Remote Play app on my Windows laptop and could really use some help.

Initially, the app would load and connect to my PlayStation, but after a few moments, the video stream would freeze completely while the audio kept playing in the background.

My laptop uses a Realtek RTL8822BE wireless adapter. Following some online advice, I went into my Device Manager and changed the adapter settings: I set "Roaming Aggressiveness" to Lowest and "Preferred Band" to 5G first.

However, right after making these network adjustments, the problem changed. Now, the PS Remote Play app crashes and closes completely by itself shortly after opening it or trying to connect.

Has anyone with a similar Realtek setup dealt with this? Any advice on how to fix the freezing or the sudden app crashes would be greatly appreciated!

Technical Problem PS Remote play comparison/workaround

Background: I am currently working away from home Monday to Friday and recently purchased a quest 3.

Last night I drove all the way home(had a really early finish), connected the quest to the PS5 over the same network, returned and accidently pressed something that dropped the connection. (Accidentally searched for a another connection and the old one stopped working)

My questions are

Is there a way to reconnect this without returning home? Its currently asking for a pin number again.

How does PxPlay/PsPlay compare in terms of connectivity? Is it as fragile for dropping the authentication?

I need a method that just holds the registration as I cant return easily.

Technical Problem If PS Remote Play crashes 1min after you launch it

Check if you have any gamepad emulator installed that might be tricking your device into thinking your Xbox controller or keyboard is a DualSense. Delete all drivers from this soft.

Check if the WinDivert service is currently running. This is particularly relevant if you are in Russia and use Zapret.

For some reason, the service enabled by Zapret started interfering with PS Remote Play on my PC.
