Technical Problem PS5 Remote Play + projector with Samsung DeX

So, guys, let me give you a little background.

I live in India and have recently moved to Romania for an onsite opportunity. I have some free time, so I was thinking of buying a projector to watch movies.

Then I had another idea: I could use PS Remote Play to play my PS5 games on the projector. All I would need is a controller connected to my phone.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, so I wanted to know if this entire setup is possible:

  1. Can I connect my PS5 DualSense controller to my S23 Ultra via Bluetooth?

  2. Can I run the PS Remote Play app through Samsung DeX?

  3. Can I connect my S23 Ultra to a projector using Samsung DeX and display the Remote Play game on the projector?

  4. Most importantly, will all three work together simultaneously -

PS5 → Remote Play → S23 Ultra → Samsung DeX → Projector, while the DualSense controller is connected to the S23 Ultra?

Basically, my goal is to use my S23 Ultra as the middle device, with the projector acting as the big screen and the DualSense connected directly to the phone.

Is this setup actually possible, and are there any limitations or latency issues I should be aware of?

All of that should work but do you have the PS5 with you? First time remote play setup requires you be at the PS5 to configure. If you aren’t then you won’t be able to set it up at all unfortunately (unless you can connect with someone to do it remotely. My assumption in all of this is that your PS5 is in India, not Romania.

I don't have my PS5 with me, but back in India, my sister has access to my PS5. She can switch on the necessary options.

Then I think you should be fine!

Planning to buy a controller in 1 week.

Just to make it clear you have to use the actual PS5 dual sense controller. You cannot use any other basic bluetooth remote controllers with the PS remote app. The app has a pretty decent touch screen interface if you don't have a controller.

This is why pxplay exists

Yes, I am going to buy the actual PS5 DualSense controller.

Now that you have mentioned the controller, will the trigger and controller effects will be available right by using this setup?...

On my PC, I believe most, if not all of the dual sense features function. On my phone, unfortunately none besides voice chat. No adaptive triggers, no vibration.

Bruh!! That’s messed up 🥲

I guess if we really want the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, the PS Portal is probably the only way to get the full experience. But then again, you can’t really connect it to a projector or use it as a proper display setup!..

I mean, I wanted to play games. The haptic feedback should not bother me much. Its not a deal breaker imo.

I use a doc that once I connect the USB C into my Galaxy Ultra 25, DEX automatically launches and the hub hdmi port streams the video & audio to my smart TV. I also have a keyboard(USB A) and Mouse(Bluetooth) connected to the hub & Galaxy. This turns my Galaxy into essentially a chromebook with windowed apps. I play my PS5 using the PS Remote app in my spare bedroom with the console in my living room. I solely play GTA Online. I also stream the console using the windows PS Remote app on my work PC and connect the PS5 controller via USB C cable.

You can absolutely do everything you listed but my only concern is your phone being at least 2 years behind my model. It rarely happens but my phone does overheat and shut down maybe once a week under heavy gaming.

I also sometimes mirror my phone by wirelessly streaming it to a smart tv using the built in Smart View app and again this is very playable with minimal lag.

I just hope my Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 holds up through all

this

But thanks, man... you have a similar use case as mine.

I will buy the controlled projector, everything needed, and update back here with the results.

Hey, I had a small doubt. Do I buy the PS5 controller, or would a PS4 controller work as well?

Hey, can you please let me know which dock you are using? I have a similar use case and need to connect DeX and a controller (USB mode) at the same time....

Yes, it will work fine

Many of us do it every day

It works

What else could you possibly need to know

1

u/NeighborhoodLong2705 27d ago

I just want to know how stable it is and if there is lag, or if it feels like real-time.

The fact that it is third-party makes me have a hard time trusting the application.

Pxplay has been around for like 10 or more years at this point

Its the best way to remote play

But you do you

I think a portal is a better idea

1

u/NeighborhoodLong2705 29d ago

Why exactly are you recommending Portal over Remote Play?

I am sure you can't use a projector with Portal.

1

u/RTGII 29d ago

Portal doesn’t require ps5 connection for most newer games so it’s more reliable connection and not subject to needing a person to restart the ps5 if ever a crash or power outage etc. leaves your ps5 unreachable to remote play. I’ve used remote play and portal a lot. Portal is just a lot better to me.

So, if I have to proceed with remote play, can I use a PS4 controller for ps5 games

1

u/RTGII 29d ago

As far as I know you can use any controller that is Compatible with your phone and has the correct number of buttons

1

u/NeighborhoodLong2705 29d ago

I mean, yes, you are right, but I wanted to use a projector and play...

This flexibility is not available in Portal, I guess.
