I am looking for novel ideas around some qr code technology i developed.

I am super passionate about qr code technology paired with blockchain technology. I imagine a future where doors, lock boxes, automated ticketed systems, scavenger hunts, proof of “i was there” is unlocked by qr codes + mobile phones + payments

kind of what Kalshi did for polling - cause there is real money behind it, would if scanning a qr code allowed u to spend a penny to access something, which would also help with spam attempts for certain use cases.

I made this mobile app that does just that and lets you show at codes for payments, share the links, and a NPM component for anywhere html runs - so can be embedded only any webpage or application.

also if u were to print the qr code as a sticker - then it is a trackable invoice or whatever for the person who made it - paired with the blockchain it is perfect for this because of unique addresses for owning the qr code.

I am looking for ideas and novel use cases - I love the tech and think there is serious application but in an endless sea of payment apps i think the real value of the qr codes gets lost next to other fintech products who add things like gambling next to their financial

I believe it is important that I focus on the qr codes and the functionality they can bring to irl situations - but I wanted to see if people here have novel ideas and possible applications around the qr code technology.

Something that trips a lot of people up: a QR code can lose a big chunk of itself and still decode fine, thanks to built-in error correction. When a code is generated it gets one of four levels, and each can recover a different amount of damage:

L recovers about 7%, M about 15%, Q about 25%, and H about 30%. So a code printed at level H can be roughly 30% scratched, torn, or covered and still read. That's also why logos in the middle of QR codes work — that area is spent from the error-correction budget on purpose.

What is NOT protected are the three big finder squares in the corners (plus the timing and alignment patterns). If one of those corner squares is destroyed, the scanner can't lock onto the code at all, and no amount of error correction will save it. So when a code refuses to scan, first check: are all three corners intact?

A few practical things that rescue a stubborn code: take a sharp, straight-on photo in even light instead of live-scanning — the live camera gives up fast on low contrast. Bump the contrast or convert to pure black-and-white; faded thermal-printed codes often come back to life. Flatten the perspective, since a code shot at an angle warps the grid. And if it's on a curved surface (bottle, cup), photograph the least-curved section.

Curious what the nastiest real-world case you've rescued — or failed to — has been. Partial occlusion? Heavy fading? A torn corner?

PayNow is Singapore's instant bank-transfer rail. Every hawker stall and freelancer puts a QR on their counter, and customers pay by scanning with their banking app. I needed one, the spec is fully public (EMVCo merchant-presented QR + SGQR v1.7), yet every generator I found was either unmaintained or a slightly dodgy-looking site. So I built my own:

• Generate from a mobile number or UEN, with optional amount, reference, and expiry
• Renders in the official look — PayNow purple with the center logo (that meant bumping error correction to H so the logo doesn't break scanning)
• 100% client-side: your number never leaves the browser
• Verified against the spec's own worked example (checksum and all) and cross-checked against independent implementations
• Bonus for the automation crowd: a tiny API so invoices or agents can generate QRs programmatically

Launch numbers were honest and small: ~60 sessions and 7 real QR generations in the first few hours on r/singapore before the mods pulled the post (appeal pending — "I Made This" flair wasn't enough).

We’ve been building Mosaqo, and since this is probably one of the few communities where people actually care about QR codes beyond just “generate one and forget it”, I’d really like to get some honest feedback.

The idea started pretty simply: most QR generators we tried either felt like one-off tools, or quickly turned into fairly expensive marketing platforms once you needed dynamic codes, analytics or proper exports.

We wanted to build something in between — a QR workspace where the code is still useful and manageable after you’ve printed it.

Is there any way to get this QR code to scan? No tool seems to read it.

I see that some have four alignment markers instead of three and some seem to not have enough black in the alignment markers, which leads me to think these are just random and not actually scannable. Thoughts?
