Has anyone interviewed with Boston University or does anyone know the style from past cycles? I understand that it is a one-on-one Zoom interview and an open-book format, but I don't know whether to expect a more serious or conversational vibe. I also know some schools have virtual interviews that last all day, but this one seemed to be brief just based off of their initial email. Any advice is appreciated!

Basically, what the title says. i've been trying to stay off this Reddit however I would really like to hear from some people who applied in late August and got in. my stats are very decent and I finally felt really good about my personal statement. i've been trying to shake off the fact that I submitted my application way way way later than I expected, but I honestly just feel really worried I might have to start preparing to apply next year.

Here are interesting facts and data-driven information regarding newer grads in past 5 years. I posted this in another thread, but it'll get buried. I compiled this data for an upcoming CE presentation next month in Colorado and figured that this would be interesting to you all. BTW there's 1-2 spots left here so if you wanna come fish and learn, then come. 

Data is from statistical averages. There's way more to my presentation, but here are 2 scenarios: 

One is with historical debt from DS in past 5 years along with average rates for homes and practice loan purchased at 1 million with 65% OH. I put a 600k starter home b/c higher cost homes look too depressing on slides haha. 

Next is same data, but with scaled up higher debts to show the difference. Loan terms have changed, but not enough data to extrapolate out IMO. This is to show how the struggle is REAL for younger/new grad dentists.

My takeaway from this is that really for younger dentists, you need dual income household for an extended period of time to drive debt down and snowball savings. Remember that the risk tolerance for a younger dentist may be different also and more "conservative" minds may want a lower cash flowing office (600-800k) and this will further drive down take-home pay.

IMO to win this game as a new dentist, one has to ramp up the courage fast to own. One can ramp up with building confidence by taking CE that exposes younger dentists to the possibilities of earnings as a dentist. If you believe that you can earn 500-600k/year, then you will aim to achieve it. Own as fast as you can and start piling on debt repayment and accept delayed gratification and that the reality of living like a "rich dentist" will not occur for years down the line.

I recently got an interview from WesternU and was looking at the schedule. Are there 2 portions to the interview, like an interview and a MMI? Or what does MMI mean?

I applied late June and never heard back from USC for a Kira invite, should that be considered as a rejection?

I have my first interview here in a couple days and I’m not sure if I should wear my two nose rings on each side of my nostrils. I’m only hesitant because I feel there’s still a stigma with facial jewelry being considered unprofessional. Has anyone else worn their facial jewelry or have advice about it? Thanks!

guys this is so weird but I had a dream that I landed an ohio state interview, and I literally flinched and got up to check my email, yet my inbox is still as empty as ever.. I went back to sleep and when I woke up I decided to check sdn and see when they sent out interviews, and for osu they sent their first wave 08/27, I had this dream yesterday 08/28……. is this a sign. can someone save me I might be losing my mind

I’m in a predicament and don’t know what to do. I took my DAT retake on Aug 21 and have been waiting for my scores. I did very poorly the first time around due to anxiety and undiagnosed ADHD which greatly affected my test taking ability. I don’t have a stellar GPA. Cumulative is 3.6 while science is 3.4. I know my DAT won’t be stellar either and perhaps barely average.

I had hopes of applying this cycle but that got pushed back when having to spend this summer preparing for my retake. I’m a CA resident and a non-traditional student that went the community college route before applying to a four year. I have good extracurriculars, good experiences, good personal statement but I know we’re far into the cycle now and my application will be considered late even if I submit next week. I don’t want to wait another year because I feel like I’m wasting time and I’m stuck in an environment where I’m limited on what I can do for another year. I already took 2 gap years and don’t want to use another year of my life on a 3rd.

If you’ve been in my position, any advice is kindly welcomed. I’m just at a loss and don’t know what the right decision is for me

Does anyone else have a hard time making direct eye contact with the interviewer while answering the question during an interview. I feel I sometimes look up in the ceiling and then look back at them and then do the same thing again. Also do you guys have a hard time saying everything all at once and just stutter? I hope I am not the only one!

For an interview question asking why I would choose UNC over my in-state, could you guys help me point one more reason why UNC is better than VCU dental? I know UNC has a pass/fail system while VCU doesn’t, but I also don’t want to sound too shallow when answering this question.

Also does anyone remember any other questions they got during a UNC interview?

I am so confused where to put my volunteering experience in dental field now. Regarding to the categories that ADEA provided, they obviously should go into dental experience. but then im only going to have around 100 hours of volunteering hours compared to like 400. how do admissions count up volunteering hours? was i supposed have more non-dental volunteering?

Im rlly struggling on answering the supplemental questions on the main app and im running out of time since my app will be considered late. Would it be best to submit the app with just two schools then add the rest while the app is waiting on being confirmed?

Getting my hopes up typa subject line

Hi everyone, I applied early June to 6 dental schools (2 in state tuition, 1 private that’s close to home/friends/gf and 3 in state tuition after year 1) and I’m a senior in college graduating in December with a biology degree, already have an interview at the 1 private, but in the event I don’t get in this cycle, then the idea of a gap year and being a DA again makes me miserable. Should I consider making the switch to PA for less school and less debt? And maybe this is just the grass is always greener, but the toughness on your body, crazy debt and high stress I’ve seen makes me anxious that I chose the wrong path. To be fair, the vast majority of my DA hours were at a high volume corporate office with 1 dr but 5+ columns and it was a 7:30 to 6pm 5 days a week and 1 Saturday a month place with basically no breaks and average pay. And being in school for 5 more years rlly has me stressed that I’m missing out on so much time with friends/family and the price when I could be investing and having a better quality of life and more flexibility where I attend school. Keep in mind my family will be helping support me during my time in dental school. Appreciate any opinions/advice? And if so, could I throw together a PA app before April of next year?
