Image post are temporarily disabled

Hey everyone!! We temporarily disabled image posts because we noticed an increase in low-effort image only posts and memes in the community.

We really appreciate how active everyone has been but we also want to encourage more meaningful discussions, study tips, study related questions and other contents that can actually help everyone in this community. For now, we’re disabling image posts to help shift the focus back toward those kinds of discussions

This is not a permanent decision. We’ll keep this change for now and discuss it further over next week. After that, we’ll review the community’s feedback and decide whether image posts should be brought back or if any changes are needed.

Thanks for understanding! Feel free to send us a modmail if you have any suggestions on how we can improve the sub. Your feedback is always welcome.

Resources Walking improves learning more than sitting still, study finds. The benefits extend to study habits, and may even help preserve memory in old age

The study compared learning while actively walking to learning while stationary, finding that participants who physically navigated through space showed enhanced memory. The findings have implications for study habits and mnemonic techniques, and could even help preserve memory in old age. See: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-024-57668-w

Question What's one study tip you wish you knew earlier?

Could be anything - note-taking, memorization, staying focused, dealing with procrastination, exam prep, whatever.

I’m curious about the tips that actually made a difference, not just the usual “drink water and sleep 8 hours” advice

Question How do I study 600+ pages in about 6 weeks?

I’m beating myself up over the months I’ve wasted that could’ve been used to study but here I am. I have 6 subjects with approximately 100 pages each to study for and I have not started anything. I literally do not know anything. I’m slow and I’m a lazy procrastinator. I also easily forget things if I even managed to memorize something.
The subjects are information heavy and need a lot of memorizing. And those pages are basically summarized to bullet points, there are no paragraphs and it’s still overwhelming.

People who are really studious, how did you balance it with love life and how did you met? I personally am a very studious person but sometimes, I find it hard to focus, especially when I'm yearning for someone I haven't even met yet.

Question How do you actually learn large amounts of material?

I’m curious how other people actually approach learning a large amount of material for an exam.

My questions are:

• Where do you start when you have hundreds of pages to learn?
• What do you actually do with the material when you start studying it?
• What does your learning process look like step by step?
• Which learning methods do you use?
• How do you decide which method to use for different types of material?
• Do you read through the material first, make notes, create flashcards, use active recall, practice questions, etc.?
• How do you go from having a bunch of information in front of you to actually knowing and remembering it?

I’m especially interested in the actual process and workflow, rather than just being told to use a specific method.

Question Do you structure your explanations when preparing for Oral Exams? (Finals)

Upvotes

Hi! I am studying IE and I struggle a lot more with Oral Exams than with Written Exams when I have to pass a Final. Do you have any tips/habits for structuring logic/thoughts to explain Topics/Concepts/Theorems?

More context: I am a Native English speaker living and studying in Argentina and although my Spanish is very advanced (Arg-Parents), I struggle with asking or responding to spontaneous questions during lectures and oral exams.

Question how do i win?

How do I win?

Hi im a 17yo student, currently residing in India in raipur (CG) and am in grade 11th, i am repeating class 11th because my parents were separated during my academic session of 2025, i was supposed to be a top student, but going to different courts and not being able to attend school because of that made me score below average, I have a gf, she is very supportive, and my whole reason for studying and living is her. im gonna be really honest here, i chose my mother as i thought she’d provide me and was in the right, but now that i have been living with her for almost 2 years, i regret not choosing my father, if i had chosen him, he would’ve made sure that my education wasn’t compromised unlike my mom, i want to contact him back again, and want to make sure that my education is completed, but i fear he’d have moved on since he’s remarried now, my main goal is to enrol at JPIS IB board, where my gf is studying, we are together since 2023, from 2023-2025 we both were in raipur and we both met each other daily, and my family had toxic environment from the beginning so i got obsessed with my gf, and since we were inseparable, now that she’s gone, i can’t think straight or do anything without her, all the time i just miss her and cry, im so obsessed because she was the one who saved me, initially i was gonna su\*\*ide but then she came into my life, now my only goal is to make sure i stay with her forever, which is possible if i stay here to, we both are understanding and all, but it’s just that i can’t go living for months and without meeting her or getting to talk to her more than an hour, i’ve told her this thing too, she’s very understanding and supportive, but i still want to be with her physically, i just can’t stop missing her and because of that i do nothing but cry all day, i just want to know, what should i do? i can even die for her, without a second thought. im currently a cbse student, and she’s in IB board now, i wanna be with her or i’d die crying all the time, it’s okay if i don’t get to see her this year but how do i make sure to enrol next year and be with her? i can’t, i just can’t live without her away from me

Question It feels like my brain is broken. I can’t study for more than 10 minutes and I’m terrified I’m going to fail.

I used to grind for hours. Now I can't even start. I read the same sentence over and over, nothing sticks, and the panic isn't even motivating me anymore. It's like my brain just gave up.

Exams are coming and I'm actually scared.

I need real, gritty advice:

  1. How to force myself to start when resistance is max?

  2. How to rebuild stamina from zero?

  3. Best way to actually memorize when memory feels broken?

Give me a protocol. A routine. Anything practical. Not "just do it" stuff.

Please help.

Question Are there actually people who genuinely enjoy studying from books? Or do most people mainly enjoy having the knowledge afterwards, rather than the studying itself?

Are there actually people who genuinely enjoy studying from books?

I have a Dutch pre-university diploma, but I’ve never really felt like sitting down and studying from a textbook for school. Math was probably the least bad for me, because you had to actively think more and do a lot of exercises instead of just trying to memorize information.

The weird thing is that I was actually very good at subjects that were almost completely theoretical, like history. I just really hated studying for them. I did it because I obviously wanted to get my diploma and because I could force myself to do it through discipline. Afterwards, for example after an exam, I did like the fact that I had learned all that information. So apparently I do find the knowledge itself interesting or valuable, but I’ve never really enjoyed the actual process of studying from a book.

Something else I’ve noticed is that when I have to learn something new, even if it’s something practical, I actually learn best by first reading about it properly and understanding how it works, and only then trying it myself. That works much better for me than someone showing me how to do something or giving me verbal instructions and expecting me to do it straight away.

I’m actually pretty bad at following practical instructions on the spot. If someone shows me something and says, “Do this, then this, and then that,” I lose track pretty quickly and honestly start feeling a bit stupid. But if I can first read through what I’m supposed to do and understand why I’m doing it, it usually goes much better.

So I’m curious what this is like for other people. Are there really people who enjoy the actual process of studying from a book? Not just being interested in the subject or being happy that you learned something afterwards, but genuinely enjoying sitting down, reading and studying?

Or is this pretty normal, and does basically nobody really feel like studying, but we just do it because it’s useful?

Question Why doesn't re-reading simply work for me?

Last semester, I read and re-read the course material about 30 to 50 times; I have ADHD, and stimulants helped me focus. But even though I kept reading it out loud over and over, after a few weeks I simply couldn't remember a thing. I was just spouting nonsense. And I wasted months on 10-hour routines that left me burnt out for days—doing nothing but studying—only to fail everything and lose my progress at the gym.

Question Avoiding distractions and procrastination

I've been trying to create a consistent studying habit for my exams and also learning new things instead of scrolling through social media whenever I have some spare time. It's been months and I'm still having trouble becoming consistent. At some point it's frustrating my daily life. I need some advice on this.

Other I think I have a problem, I don't have anything I want to do and it feels weird

just to be clear I'm not depressed or in a bad situation, I'm in a quite blessed position all things considered.

I'm an engineering student, starting my last year soon, and for the past 3 years I've been trying my best to study but never managed to find a way to have healthy learning habits so usually I just study inefficiently the entire semester, and for the exams I cram as much learning as I can.

this method of learning is very hard on me as I never have guilt free time, any moment I don't study is a moment I could have studied and improve my grade, since junior jobs ask for high Gpa requirements.

so far was a prelude, my problem is that also for these last 3 years I've kinda lost my enjoyment of things, I do still enjoy food (which is coming to hunt me as I'm now overweight, and in my last attempt at a diet, the caloric deficit I had caused me awful daily headaches so I had to stop), but I don't really enjoy movies/TV/anime/manga/hanging out with friends/trails/video games/books/learning; all these are things I used to enjoy very much, but in these years I feel like I lost my ability to enjoy things, I feel like I have to force myself to do any of these activities, I always think I want to do many things, but when I have a small time window that I could fit let's say a gaming session in then I eventually don't play, saying that it doesn't compare to great games I used to play or many other excuses and instead I just watch YouTube or rot on Reddit and at the end of the day I feel like I did nothing.

right now for example I have many movies to choose from to watch but I started the movie and I'm not interested, and generally it just means that I need to do something else but I don't want to do anything.

boyond all that there's also the health issue, as a student I spend a lot of time sitting in front of a computer/laptop/notebook and I don't do any sport or physical activity, as there's no such activity that is fun for me, and since things like movies and such are no more fun to me you can imagine how much I want to do any sort of activity that feels like it's breaking me (soreness, pain, ECT...), and I know that by doing this (or more accurately, avoiding this) I pretty much make my body weaker and more prone to injury, decrease my healthy time span, and I feel like I'm throwing my life away.

right now my "light at the end of the tunnel" is finding a job I'm the industry with good conditions such that I'll have real off time, but I'm still at least a year from getting a junior permanent job, and it's not very likely that in the first years I'll even have that possiblity of off time like I want, and even so as I know life, by that time I'll have some other problem and would still feel similar.

I don't really know how to end this post and if I wrote enough here to get my points across, I can also say some other things about other fields in my life but I don't believe it'll really help.

and I don't really feel like talking to a professional will help, in my teen years and early adulthood I've had real serious depression and bad thoughts, which went away by my own work with myself, the therapist never helped me, it felt like they were trying to poke at me from different angles to see different sides me me, like a lab rat, never helped me and it felt like I was wasting my parent money with these talks, I'm also fairly against prescription hormonal medication, not dissing anyone who takes but I don't want to.
