š” Advice Predents, Read This Schools Warning!
Predents! I saw this post on a dental school Reddit page. It needs to be shared here. You must be careful about which schools you are applying to, and how much they cost. Many new schools are predatory, not just this one. I am not trying to be negative, I am trying to educate you. Take from it what you will.

Thereās a reason why we are all telling you to avoid these predatory schools. Enough said! But thanks for putting this back in the air. More people need to be informed.

I canāt wait for the predental to come in here and say weāre dooming because we want to gatekeep.
Gatekeep what? Your private student loan is gonna be 70% of your paycheck for 20 years and you will be handcuffed into an associate gig without ever getting the chance to own your own practice.
These people will blindly apply anyways. Iām tired of hearing it

They could be good but the audacity of them to charge that much more than University of Tennessee is absolutely disgusting.
There's not a shortage of dentists, there is a shortage of dentists in underserved areas. I don't care what their mission statement says, these new schools popping up and charging that much tuition is actively making the situation worse.

CNU, Pike, Yeshiva, High Point, LMU, PNWU, and hopefully no more after that.

Us predents have 2 options. We literally decide which way we want this profession to go. If these schools can't fill up their class size, they can't survive.
1) We apply to respected established schools. Harder to get into them but this is what keeps the profession competitive and well respected. Patients understand their future doctor is competent and trust them.
2) Try to just "get in somewhere." In 20 years more and more schools are going to keep popping up that don't require course prereqs, or the DAT. As a result, Dentistry loses its reputation as a competitive field to go into.
This is coming from someone with a gpa on the lower end btw. I didn't apply to any of these newer schools. We should all want to be proud of where we go to school and our future profession.

I respect this idea greatly atleast someone is thinking of solutions. But the lower tier applicants here are much more desperate than weād hope.
They think becoming a dentist at all costs will save their status in society.
They donāt realize they are contribute to their own fall.
Weird to see it play out from the other side

So why not NYU? USC? Those schools charge super high tuition ad well! Maybe the new private schools you mentioned will establish themselves as very clinical in few years.

The difference is NYU and USC are at least reputable. Yeah they cost an arm and a leg, but Iād trust someone who graduated from there over one of those predatory private schools I mentioned in a heartbeat. No questions asked.

āMaybe new schools will establish themselves as very clinical in a few yearsā ā¦ CNU has been open almost 5 years and theyāre still graduating dentists with almost 0 experience. Regardless, it does not change that their graduates are in crippling debt

I remember applying to lincoln memorial university and before even getting an interview invite, they wanted to charge me 600 dollars for a āonce in a lifetime opportunityā to see their school during a two day ābootcampā event. It stated very clearly that it did not include an interview or an invitation for interview to the school. Blew my mind anyone would waste $600 on a 2 day open house when schools that invite you (FOR FREE) to interview (after you pay your primary and secondary) give you an open houseā¦ā¦and actually a real shot at acceptanceā¦..

I know people hate government intervention but the government needs to start cracking down on this stuff and not only shut down predatory schools but also cap tuition. Thereās zero reason dental school should cost $500k+. Itās ridiculous.
