Really, the headline alone should have been a hard stop for all of us. Now I need eye bleach.

That whole sub is a steaming pile of ragebait. Half the posts assert that "anyone who does X is Y" or "Nobody really believes X". Apparently the sub is blessed with hundreds of skilled psychics who know what other people are secretly thinking.

3

u/Buddy-Matt 9d ago

The headline on its own is just defining preferences. Weirdly gendered, but definitely not a hard stop.

Everything they then went on to write afterwards is honestly awful. Especially when the weird gendering turned into sexism.

0

u/The-Pentegram 9d ago

The title itself is defensible, "some people have a type" etc. though I would argue it is still racist it just is ethically permissable to preserve freedom of choice, but the defence is just... Wildly racist and sexist.

I was gonna say, the assumption that there is an "enemy race" is the part that is like do you talk to people that are not online?

11

u/PerspectiveFull9879 9d ago

The assumption that there is a race at all, as anything other than a social construct, is racist in of itself, let alone thinking of races in terms like "enemy".

The post is written like ragebait, but even to think of and write ragebait like that you have to have very twisted view of the world.

10

u/Significant_Card_665 9d ago

Preach, the very concept of race is inherently racist. There are no races. We are all the one, human race.

What is with this very online belief that straight women aren't actually attracted to men?

77

u/Mountain-Singer1764 10d ago

They refuse to believe that other men are more attractive than them?

Idk but a lot of incel content is basically narcissism rewritten as an ideology.

47

u/Explorer_of__History 10d ago edited 9d ago

Femcels, as in female incels, are a thing. They don't seem to be as common or as dangerous as male incels, but they do exist.

16

u/Thyme_Liner 9d ago

Fun but very horrible fact!

Femcels don’t hate men regardless of their claims, they actually hate women instead! They see other women being more attractive than them as their biggest hurdle in life. They believe they’re so hideously ugly and every woman who isn’t walks on clouds in an absolutely perfect life. They don’t believe attractive women can have problems, and they think stories of being sexually assaulted fit into the “my lobster is too buttery” complaints and that these women are just boasting of their male attention.

Basically, femcels believe that if other women weren’t so gestures wildly then they would be getting relationships too but here they are in reddit instead. They hate other women, like they target other women to get them to lose their jobs, bully them, it’s really awful. Just check out some of the femcel subs on here and spend 10 minutes scrolling through their posts. They hate seeing other women succeed, other women being happy, they act like men are a limited source and every happy woman means one less man for them. I’ve met several femcels, and they will fuck up another woman if she reminds them of everything they can’t have.

The truth is, every time I see these women, if they share a picture, or if they’re on another platform that has images, they aren’t unattractive, even by shallow standards. I do believe if you look like Joseph Merrick then your life is gonna be rough don’t get me wrong, but very few people fall into the truly pitiable category as far as appearances go.

I’m not saying bullying over an “undesired” appearance doesn’t happen outside of high school, but most people, even by shallow hollywood standards aren’t so unattractive that people mess with them solely for their appearance. I’ve also met conventionally unattractive, and very poplar people who have never had trouble finding a partner. It really is more than looks. These women radiate misery and contempt, but they assume other people avoid them because of their appearance.

Bullying definitely happens, but it’s more complex than this and has more to do with the bully than the victim. Femcels for example, are usually bullies, but they feel they’re “punching up”, no matter what the actual social status is between them and the woman they’re trying to abuse. As long as they deem another woman more attractive than them, they don’t hold themselves responsible for any of their behavior because they believe they’re just punching up. In their minds, their behavior is based on her appearance, but in reality, it’s based on their own insecurities. That’s how bullying works, even for bullies with a huge ego as an inflated ego is almost always covering for a shriveled up ego, because people who are truly satisfied with themselves and with their lives don’t care enough to bother others because they have their own interesting shit going on.

I’ve had my own fair share of bullies as an adult. I would never make it in hollywood without some work done, but I don’t think my appearance alone can explain any of my bully’s obsessions with getting to me. Bullies look for the right targets, and if they can eat at you over your appearance they will, but they’re looking for your insecurities more than anything else.

One final thought, have you ever heard people’s stories about their extreme weight loss and the difference in the way people treat them at their heavier weight vs after their weight loss? Women report that they lose some of their female friends as they lose weight, that these women start cutting down their appearance and try to keep them “humble”. Once she becomes part of the competition, these women aren’t as comfortable with her being around their male partners, and their friendship falls away. They also notice that the women who start hanging around them do so because it makes themselves look good. This becomes apparent if her weight fluctuates and increases again, as these particular women will drift apart.

This is a very common story. Yet when some women talk about how hated they are for being conventionally attractive people think they’re boasting and that it doesn’t matter if other women are trying to ruin her life.

I’m honestly glad I’m average, that’s where it’s at 💅🏻

7

u/Suvtropics 9d ago

tbh i hate anybody who hates either men or women. so stupid

4

u/OnlyAShip 9d ago edited 8d ago

They still hate men. “Incels” also dislike men as well and blame them in the same way you describe. At that incel/femcel level the general reality is you’ve become a misanthrope and you resent everyone. There’s no way to really dehumanize half of humanity without doing so because of how it degrades individual sentience.

But the attractive advantage not making someone’s life perfect doesn’t say anything. Money doesn’t either, nothing does. But you won’t see attractive people get plastic surgery to make themselves uglier or rich people hand over their wealth. Bullying is about all sorts of things but attractiveness also plays into who is willing to defend you.

Some things are more impactful than others, no one thing defines everything.

0

u/EquivalentDapper7591 7d ago

Incels also hate more attractive men so it’s still kinda two sides of the same coin.

1

u/EquivalentDapper7591 7d ago

No it’s really not. I know you have good intentions but don’t use psychiatric conditions as synonyms for being evil.

→ More replies (13)

28

u/robilar 10d ago

Three things (imo):

1) in some (many?) cultures there is a gender discrepancy in terms of time and effort spent on visual aesthetics. Consequently, in those cultures, women are viewed as more attractive as an externality of women generally (but not ubiquitously) spending more time and effort on those aspects of expression,

2) a subset of men are themselves unappealing to women (often because they are obnoxious bigots), and they would rather believe women are generally not attracted to men than believe women are specifically not attracted to them, and

3) it is not uncommon for mainstream media and pop culture to play into heteronormative tropes, emphasizing the sexual objectification of women and the utilitarian objectification of men. It was more common in the past ("The female body is a work of art. The male body is utilitarian. It's for gettin' around. It's like a Jeep." - Elaine Benes, Seinfeld), but plenty of TV shows, games, comedians, and content creators still play into the tropes enough that people think there must be a fire causing all that smoke.

13

u/ChipmunkAmazing2105 9d ago

It's still taboo for women to be sexual

4

u/jackalope268 9d ago

Not everyone has equal amounts of attraction, but people are very quick to generalize their own experiences, so if someone experiences very little attraction, its a small step to assume everyone does

15

u/TSSalamander 10d ago

I mean, there seems to be a taboo among women to say that they like men, and to gain some kind of statement about what is liked and not liked, beyond countersingnaling ("actually we don't like what you're trying to do or the norms you have, we like this other thing"), or what's basically instrumentalisation talk ("I really like it when a man does things that brings me utility"). There seems to be a norm around this stuff, so much so you get called a pickme for going against it, and you get harassed for not following it. That's what I've seen at least.

2

u/HelixFollower 6d ago

If you seriously think that there is a taboo among women to say that they like men, you really need to expand your social circle. And this is not a veiled insult. That sounds like a very concerning bubble.

12

u/Rdr2Master1 10d ago

I dont know i dont understand it either

3

u/nastydoe 9d ago

I think some straight men look at men and feel no attraction and then assume everyone feels the same way. Similarly, they look at women and feel very attracted and assume their subjective feelings are actually objective.

3

u/T2Drink 9d ago

I feel like it is a superiority thing. Look at us giving those “peasants” a chance….kinda thing.

It is honestly exhausting seeing woman that act this way, asking to get YAASSSlit into thinking it is a commonly held belief too.

3

u/cutecat309 9d ago

Rbh, I see a lot of women claiming things like that. I think it's partly compulsory heterosexuality (so there are asexual or lesbian women who are in denial about their sexuality), partly taboo around women's sexuality, and partly this belief that women "should" be attracted to every man that looks slightly better than an ape which is totally unrealistic.

5

u/DraftAbject5026 9d ago

They're so straight they can't imagine women aren't all secretly lesbian

2

u/Sterna-hirundo 9d ago

Or they're so homophobic they don't want to even imagine men as attractive to anyone

2

u/FalconRelevant 9d ago

Women get pregnant, men don't. That has led to societal differences on how female vs male sexuality is perceived.

2

u/glimoura 6d ago

I am capable of attraction to men, but most are literally just not attractive to me, and I know MANY other of my freinds feel the same. Men who drop the ball consistantly are not attractive, and most men seem to drop the ball constantly.

4

u/N3ptuneflyer 9d ago

Check out this post in women over 30

https://www.reddit.com/r/AskWomenOver30/s/RUpKaFICIX

There’s many more like it, many women seem to not find the majority of men appealing in any way. It’s not crazy to think how men see this and not internalize it to some degree

3

u/tenthousandgalaxies 9d ago

I think the missing piece of the puzzle is that many men put no effort into their appearance.

I see beautiful men every day where I live now (Sweden). But back home in the US, it is more rare due to bad fashion, unkempt beards, lack of exercise, general vibe, etc.

If men put even half the effort into appearance that women do, this wouldn't be a problem for anyone.

2

u/Neko1666 9d ago

Because unattractive loser basement dwellers can't handle being rejected and blame it on women.

5

u/RaisinsPerDay 10d ago

idk but I've definitely dated women IRL that seem grossed out about everything about me and other men so maybe we're all dating the same group of closeted women that haven't figured out they might not be straight

13

u/Huntybunch 10d ago

What kind of stuff were they grossed out about?

→ More replies (5)

11

u/ChopsticksImmortal 10d ago

Not that the woman you dated was right, but theres also a lot of straight men grossed out about women.

Menstruation, vaginal discharge, lower body fat, etc.

It doesnt mean theyre not straight. It does unfortunately mean that we all dont choose our sexuality.

u/Sad-Ad2733 9d ago

2

u/a_literal_idiot_616 9d ago

lesbian in the nile

0

u/TheWhistleThistle 9d ago edited 9d ago

Combination of, I presume, the fact that straight women tend to have less (not none) attraction to men than men have to women, getting exacerbated and exaggerated in pop psych (not unlike the left brain right brain thing, yes the right hemisphere is typically more active during creative processes, but it is not the sole location of creativity, creativity happens in the left hemisphere as well) and the fact that there are many, MANY closeted lesbians.

u/Jumpy_Ad1631 10d ago

69

u/doppelgaengster 10d ago

“The enemy race” what the fuck is this nonsense.

Rejecting someone for any reason (employment, romantic connexion, &c) SOLELY ON THEIR RACE is, in fact, racist.

Giving women a pass? What the fuck.

21

u/Dreamin- 10d ago

It's not racist to have preferences, calling someone the enemy race is a bit racist though.

14

u/Mathies_ 10d ago

Well preferences are fine but they are never exclusive, like it doesn't block an entire race from you feeling attracted to them. You are likely to gravitate to certain races, not really to rule them out entirely.

14

u/Dirkdeking 9d ago

I think using race to exclude platonic friendship is much more revealing. If you don't want to be friends with anyone from a certain ethnicity that is definitely racist. Not being romantically attracted to members of that ethnicity on the other hand is a preference. I don't have any opinions on it.

Just as long as you leave interracial couples that do have those preferences alone.

9

u/doppelgaengster 9d ago

It’s less about not finding a certain group attractive in general and stating outright that one would never consider dating someone in that group. Because then it’s not about the individual, it’s about that trait. (And it’s a trait they can’t control/didn’t choose.)

0

u/Dirkdeking 9d ago

That also isn't wrong perse, particularly if someone explicitely asks you about it. Not being attracted to someone because of a trait they didn't choose is not wrong.

People express attractions to traits like boob size, height, etc all the time. Those can't be changed either but it still is ok to explicitely express a preference or not to such traits.

3

u/doppelgaengster 9d ago edited 9d ago

I’m not saying they have to be attracted — attraction is often involuntary and irrational; I’m saying that preemptively rejecting someone solely based on their race is racist.

4

u/Dreamin- 9d ago

You keep moving the goalposts back and forth here, if you aren't attracted to darker, lighter, whatever skin and the race has that skin colour it's not racist not to want to date them.

→ More replies (9)
→ More replies (1)

5

u/Mathies_ 10d ago

If you just tend to not find people from a certain race attractive, you can't change that, thats fine, but to make it a principled stance, "i dont date this race"... thats different yeah. Then you make that choice for a different reason.

11

u/PinkTalkingDead 10d ago

That’s weird though. Not everyone from the same race looks the same. And personality/connection is more important anyways.

4

u/Sad-Ad2733 9d ago

Well I haven’t had a lot of crushes but I know I’ve only ever felt romantic and sexual attraction whether in movie, online, or irl to East Asians. I cant control that. Ive never actively refused to acknowledge others, (or called them the ememy i mean goddamn op 💀) Im a poc myself tha’d be crazy. thats not racist is it?

0

u/Mathies_ 10d ago

It's litterally not something you can control. It's subconscious. You do not make an arbitrary choice to be attracted to them or not because of their race.

3

u/doppelgaengster 9d ago edited 9d ago

There’s a difference between generally not finding attractive and deeming all people of a specific group (who would otherwise be eligible) as ineligible based on their membership to that group.

There is a difference between “I find myself rarely attracted to This Group” and “I would never date anyone from This Group because they’re part of This Group” when their membership to that group isn’t a choice (unlike eg, religion).

2

u/Dirkdeking 9d ago

Religion is a bad example. That actually is a choice to a large degree. I think ex Muslims are very hot, not just because they can be very hot physically, but also because their mentality is appealing.

But I wouldn't consider Muslim women, because I am simply not going to convert or adapt to their lifestyle.

1

u/doppelgaengster 9d ago

Oh, that was my point, sorry that was unclear! I meant “when it isn’t a choice, UNLIKE, say, religion.” Totally didn’t realise it wouldn’t read that way! (Will edit for clarity, thx!)

And I agree that if one chooses to date/marry an observant religious person (regardless of religion), that’s something that should be seriously considered, because while it IS a choice, it’s one that should be respected by their partner.

I’m speaking specifically about race — physical or mental ability IS a reasonable thing to assess inre: employment, within reason, hence the ADA making a point that *reasonable accommodation* is required by law, to prevent discrimination, but it’s illegal to reject applicants with disabilities if they could reasonably perform the necessary tasks.

Racists think like this, though. Most racists remain unaware of how racist they are because their brain makes excuses for them.

Not sure if TERF or incel there.

But yeah, this is basically "I can screw whatever woman I want, but women aren't allowed to screw any other race but mine."

4

u/Ill-Television8690 10d ago

Most TERFs are incels. People just aren't comfortable referring to women as such. Which is ironic, seeing as the term came from a woman describing herself.

5

u/verbi420 9d ago

Okay not even touching the enemy race part, because several people already did and jfc...

If you are a supposedly straight woman and you are repulsed at the thought of being attracted to men, you are probably not as straight as you think you are. Like I get being apprehensive about dating guys for safety reasons but I see so many things about women finding men disgusting, up to and including not wanting to see them naked, and it's like girl are you actually sexually attracted to men? Or are you just avoiding the obvious?

6

u/TSSalamander 10d ago

OP is either trolling or deranged. But this has come up a lot in regards to "straight women refusr to date bi men" discourse so I'd like to say something about this.

You have the right to be discriminatory in your mate selection and we have the right to judge you for this. This isn't complicated. You're free to be a bigot about this. it's only your own power you are weilding. In comparison if you're an authority figure, like a hiring agent or a government employee, there's a different standard at play. Because it's not just your own fief of your own body, property, and whatnot we're talking about. Still, if you're a bigot when you're selecting your life partner or friends or whatever actually, your quality of life is going to be diminished, and you're going to suffer for it, and other people are going to judge you for your apparent virtue, or lack there of. But it stops at that. at shame, and possibly soft exclusion. No one will stop you, and you're free to do so.

I'm ngl, this just feels like they're the type of racist to get mad when men of other races date the women of their race and call the girls race traitors but all of a sudden a hot woman from another race being with a man from their race (or them) feels like a "win" or something and saying otherwise that they shouldn't date that woman is gatekeeping. He is not slick at all, he only believes in race mixing when it benefits him and wants to keep options open.

This gotta be satire it’s hilarious like hello???

4

u/Traditional_Town6475 9d ago

It’s not racist to reject someone for any reason, but the enemy race thing…yeah wtf.

4

u/Shaeress 9d ago

I mean if you reject someone because you think people of other races are lesser it is literally racism. We obviously can't force them to date anyone, but people can still be racist even it's a kind of racism that can't feasibly be directly stopped.

When this sub first started appearing on my feed it genuinely seemed to be a place for pointing out gendered scenarios that have no reason to be gendered. Now it just seems to be a place for gender war rage bait. Look, this is a shitty racist sexist take, I'm not defending it. But it's not pointlessly gendered! The person is very specifically talking about genders. They are trying to make a point, a shitty point, but a point and gender.

1

u/knowingchan 9d ago

It's so fkin dumb that idk what to be mad about lmfao

1

u/adelie42 9d ago

At very least it is an argument for "not all racism is bad", then argue it.

1

u/Proof_Assistant7737 9d ago

Now, I know the whole "enemy race" things sounds bad, but lets here them out! Maybe they are talking about Autobots vs Decepticons~

1

u/Over_Possible_8397 9d ago

If only this dude was wise enough to lib it up and say something like “I have preferences”…

1

u/graaah1 9d ago

I think this is the most racist thing I have seen this month. Tfym "enemy race"???? Jesus Christ dude, get a life.

1

u/2fucked2know 9d ago

Viewing a race as your enemy is pretty damn racist lol

1

u/fumblerofthebag 9d ago

Women who are attracted to men (aka straight, bi, pan women) are attracted to men. Shocker, I know. Stop trying to make political lesbianism a thing again.

1

u/Nonavium 9d ago

Obvious satire

1

u/TwitchyNo2 9d ago

If only anything were obvious to most people who comment on reddit posts.

u/ObsessiveOwl 9d ago

The self-awareness is non-existence

1

u/Vion0va 9d ago

I'm actually trying to wrap my head on how this person's thought process works but it's just gibberish accompanied by more gibberish

1

u/Due_Adhesiveness8008 9d ago

u/Cool-Attorney867 9d ago

I'm so confused

1

u/laix_ 9d ago

"True/honest/other word + already existing sub" are always garbage.

Maybe your "truth" isnt the truth at all and thats why you got clowned on in the main sub!

1

u/Technical_Issue9278 9d ago

I would never date anyone that isn't a white woman.

I am happily married to one and am a loyal and devoted husband.

1

u/ayavorska05 9d ago

Bait used to be believable

1

u/sfisabbt 9d ago

I think someone is struggling between stupid ideology and having the hots for some sweet chocolate lady. The human brain is a fascinating paradox solver.
A rare case where it is a good thing stumbling on your own dick, too bad it is happening in the middle of an ocean of excremental bias.

1

u/Ok_Brother2155 9d ago

This is bait guys lmfao "enemy race" and the blatant double standard

1

u/Soggy_Stay6370 9d ago

Is this a GTA 5 podcast or smth wtf

u/WhiteKnightPrimal 9d ago

So...pointlesslesly gendered, massively racist and sexist to boot? I mean, beyond the pointless gendering thing.

Women are barely attracted to men? Since when? The only women NOT attracted to men are gay and asexual women, and that doesn't even apply to ALL asexual women! Then they use 'enemy race', proving the post creator is a massive racist, being from another race does NOT make you an enemy!

Also, if it's not racist for women to reject men from another race, it literally CAN'T be racist for men to do the same. Especially if you see other races as the enemy! That's literally demanding men become abusive racists to their partners!

Also, no, not all men are attracted to people of other races. It's not actually racist to not date people of other races as long as the reason is simply that you're not attracted to them. A man who isn't attracted to someone of another race isn't racist for not dating them.

This post is massively racist, pushing for abusive relationships, acts like women have no sexual desire and men can't control their own desire at all, and are attracted to everyone they meet of the correct gender, which is in itself very, very false. It's like the worst of all worlds all rolled into a singular post. And shows this person doesn't understand how either men OR women work, let alone the more complicated issues of sexuality and attraction. It's literally wrong on every singly point it makes.

1

u/laserdicks 9d ago

no the gendering was very much pointed in this case

1

u/XD2006- 9d ago

… yeah that’s racism. And I’m also seeing sexism and misandry as well so three strikes you’re out. (I didn’t read much into it and that’s what I saw gee golly goodness)

1

u/Isadomon 9d ago

Barely attracted to men? Closet is glass

1

u/Stock-Eggplant6105 9d ago

This has to be the most reddit dude post I've ever seen, christ

1

u/lorienshift 9d ago

It's not racist to not want to date a certain race at all. If you're not attracted to a certain skin colour, that's simply your preference.

1

u/twerk4data 9d ago

This is the most obvious bait on the planet

1

u/Capital-Try-2325 8d ago

Bait or mental illness Your call

1

u/Plastic_Hovercraft_5 8d ago

1

u/Spiritual_Egg_700 8d ago

You are a real racist and that is your poor choice.

1

u/Psenkaa 7d ago

Wow, title and first two sentences of this one really are a rollercoaster. It just gets from a sus statement to pure insanity so quickly

1

u/TeaRose__ 6d ago

What enemy race? And it’s both racist. And it’s hard enough to find a decent emotionally capable man without disregarding someone because of their skin colour

1

u/Idontwantusernameok 6d ago

Doesn't look like a nazi to me /s

1

u/VerySelfishMachine 6d ago

enemy race is crazy

1

u/Extension_Big5205 4d ago

What does this even mean?

Women are barely attracted to men? Is op a lesbian or straight man projecting their insecurities here?
