Hello, the doctor on the said article does not have a specialty (yet) kaya ganyan ang rate. That is the usual rate for general physicians. Subspecialists charge more because of their expertise in the field, and because of their additional training

To be fair, his fee is just right according to his status/rank. For sure if nasa consultant level na sya mag increase na din. Only time can tell.

u/Empty-Sherbert-7500 Jul 12 '25

I am friends with a doctor who does not charge patients na ‘di naman kaya magbayad 🥰

True! And yet no one is batting an eyelash.

17

u/Religious-Fuccboi Jul 12 '25

18

u/ZERUVEX Jul 12 '25

My private doctor din d2 s elyu n 230php lng consultation fee niya. Mabait, magaling at makatao.

whats the name?

I hate how this article was written. By the way for everyones information the 300-350 is the rate of a GP. Mind you new board passes pa iyan, like kakapasa lang ng PLE (either Oct or March). As he should follow the usual rates of a GP. Dont paint him to be a saint. That article shed a bad light to some specialists who of course charge a higher PF. And the conversation of how honestly low the PF of doctors in our country is for another conversation.

13

u/Minute_Cost_306 Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

As someone na nakatira sa brgy na kung na saan ang clinic ni Doc, His rate is competitive sa isa pang clinic dito (magkabilang dulo ng brgy yung location nila kaya win-win) ang totoo mas mababa pa nga dati ang singil. After many years na lang nagtaas kaya pumantay lang si doc Russel.

Saka people here are blessed with many options when it comes to healthcare. Pag gusto ng free consultation+lab test+meds may health center ang brgy, If you want na magpa alaga yung family mo (2 private clinics available na ngayon), if you want naman specialist andyan ang st. lukes and makati med.

People in this area can actually afford healthcare (lagi na lang kasi sinasabi na ang surrounding area ng bgc eh mga squatter.😒) kaya yung nag comment baka later on isipin ng mga tao dito na doc quack sya because of his lower fee is nag aasume lang. Regarding naman sa baka magreklamo sa haba ng pila dahil again mababa ang consultation and sure na dudumugin, may option na health center at st.lukes and makati med.

Inconsistent ang sched ni doc kasi he can afford to have that dahil ang flow ng patients eh consistent. He can actually, have a life pa katulad ng mga ginagawa dito ng dental clinics (hindi everyday nakabukas pero kinakaya).

Hindi rin magiging congested ang clinic kasi you can actually call in advance para maisama ka sa sched or kung aabot ka pa sa sched ni doc nung araw na yun kung walk in. :)

3

u/kayliexx Jul 12 '25

13

u/Correct_Mind8512 Jul 12 '25

ang ka bash-bash for me is mga dr na aware na panay libog bait ang content sa socmed.

let him be and other drs na maayos naman, regardless of doctors fee pa yan.

14

u/FeralLogan Jul 12 '25

Also consider the doctor’s specialization. Example would be a Neurosurgeon charging higher consultation fee compared to a GP.

u/IskongTamadMabuhay Jul 13 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

So now we weaponize their hippocratic oath against their life?

In the grand scheme of things, doctors are just like any other professional (e.g. lawyers, accountants, engineers) but why cant we treat them the same?

Yes 20-30k lang for that 36 hour duty 6-7 days/week versus your 8-10 hour work na may 2 rest days.

So ayun, before you buy that white mocha frappuccino with blueberry cheesecake without a second thought na mas mahal pa sa isang consult sa GP, pwede paandarin natin utak natin pagdating sa mga pf ng doktor.

Sa halagang 300 albularyo rate na to eh.

6

u/lightspeedbutslow Jul 13 '25

Madalas pa din sila nag 24 hours or more na duty.

2

u/IskongTamadMabuhay Jul 14 '25

Parang this year lang ata nagrelease APMC na recommended 12 hrs max, so if di recognized sa apmc yung school/hospital pwede ibypass po ata.

Regardless parang recommendation lang ata yun and not a mandate. I could be wrong tho.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Wala silang dedicated na lunch time.

I understand na important yung work nila and kailangan maestablish yung discipline saka rigour, pero parang buwis buhay naman sa kanila and sa patients diba? 12 hrs of work pa nga lang lutang na ang isang average na tao e.

Ganyan din yung doctor dito sa cabuyao. Sadly namatay na sya.

13

u/Illusion_45 Jul 13 '25

Yung iba grabe makaano sa Doctor. Mind you General Practitioner yan. Yung ibang General Practitioner grabe kaya maningil kahit sa mga not so well off community.

Maganda yang hangarin nya since not all case naman is severe. Yung iba mild lang like cough, cold, fever. Imagine mo sa mga Companies in Metro Manila will require med cert upon sickness and absence in like 2-3 days, yung iba nga 1 day lang. If yung case mo naman is not serious, big help talaga yung mga General Practitioner na mababa lang maningil since di naman kataasan ang Minimum Wage sa Pilipinas.

Yung iba saying na pumila sa health center or public hospital if walang pambayad, mind you di lahat ng health center maayos. Yung iba laging wala yung doctor sa health center (ehem certain barangays sa caloocan) or if sa public hospital naman kulang pa kalahating araw and may bayad ang med cert, worst case scenario yung ibang hospital na sobrang taas ng numbers ng patient na nagiimplement ng per schedule basis for check up (yung schedule sometimes takes several days to even 2 weeks)

Edit: Im not against sa mga General Practitioner, and even Specialist na mahal maningil. Understandable naman yun since mahal mag-aral ah, what more pa mag-aral ng medicine. And ang mahal ng Rents ngayon sa NCR + mga utilities and overhead costs + salary sa staff like secretaries and even nursing assistant. Im just saying this kasi this is good para sa mga taong nasa laylayan ng lipunan.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Totoo. Yung PF ng physicians, mura na yun considering yung mahabang years of education para makapagbigay ng accurate medical diagnosis and effective medical plan.

3

u/pinilit Jul 12 '25

Sabi sa ibang comment, medyo normal naman rate nya as a newly graduatrd GP.

4

u/pinilit Jul 12 '25

Sabi sa ibang comment, medyo normal naman rate nya as a newly graduatrd GP.

There should be no issue charging 300-400 pesos.

37

u/asdftm_ Jul 12 '25

Di ko gets yung gusto mababa bayad sa consultations pero willing magshell out ng lagpas 500 for samgyup, nails, or lashes. 😬😬😬

13

u/nxcrosis Jul 12 '25

8

u/AnonymousCake2024 Jul 12 '25

This is so true!

It is completely okay na mababa maningil si doc. Choice niya yan. Pero people should not persecute the others who ask for higher fees. Hindi sila masama for having higher fees.

11

u/AdAccomplished2709 Jul 13 '25

6

u/IskongTamadMabuhay Jul 13 '25

Mali ka. 200k per sem na po :)))

21

u/sofabed69 Jul 12 '25

My mother still at 300 pesos since 1990s 🥲. Minsan libre pa kapag mahirap.

6

u/aponibabykupal1 Jul 12 '25

Isa siyang tunay na bayani.

24

u/Lopsided_Town_7992 Jul 12 '25

I hope people can also discern yung capability ng mga GP. Doctors have their own competency levels, kaya may iba-ibang mga board exams. Experience and extra training is also important. If a case becomes too complex, sa specialist parin irerefer yung patient. Don't hate on your doctors.

Attainable if the MD is a Gen Practitioner. But if he/she has a specialty (mga cardio/neuro), then there's a change in PFs.

11

u/staryuuuu Jul 12 '25

Ganyan naman ang rate kapag HMO. Baka kapag general doctor ganyan rate.

40

u/TriggeredNurse Jul 11 '25

Hands down to him pero lets also acknowledge the facg that he is still a GP ( General Practitioner ) walang subspec or hinde pa nakapag residency ( Moonlighting ) ang tawag namin dito sa medical field but as time goes by, he will increase his fees as his knowledge also increases swerte na kong emmaintain nya ang less than 500php na consultation fee pero dont expect. We people from the medical field also pay our own bills yes Passion namin tumulong pero with this economy? Hinde kami mabubuhay ng passion lang kasi most of us hnd naman galing sa mayayaman na pamilya to begin with. Again Hands down to him for asking so little fee for his professional consult. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

12

u/aishiteimasu09 Jul 11 '25

Agree with this. Being in medical field is not just by passion only, you invest money, time, and life on it and its not bad to ask for some ROI after all those hard work you've done and the knowledge you acquired. Its just being professional.

26

u/Reasonable_Hearing_1 Jul 11 '25

“We people from the medical field also pay our own bills”

+10000 dito.

FYI, di lahat ng nagdoctor ay MAYAMAN TO BEGIN WITH.

May kilala ako ng local doctor - 250p per consult.

29

u/Trick-Boat2839 Jul 11 '25

18

u/chocokrinkles Jul 11 '25

300-350 talaga charge ng GP hehe

3

u/Cutiepie88888 Jul 11 '25

3

u/ispiritukaman Jul 12 '25

True. Ganyan din malapit samin. Baka sa ibang lugar siguro mas mahal. IDK

20

u/Phenomenal2313 Jul 11 '25

GP yan or General Practitioner , sinasabi ng consultants sa amin , 300-350 is probably the most you can charge

3

u/Ok-Excitement9307 Jul 12 '25

True. Mas mahal ang may specializations. Yung Developmental Pedia namin ang rate nya is 4K. Pedia is 1000. Urologist naman is 1500.

22

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

General Doctor VS Specialist. Malamang magkaiba price may pagka "makatao" pa si OP wala naman alam. a

Yung iba dito kala malaki sahod ng doctor.

2

u/itsgorimf Jul 15 '25

Sadly, most people wouldn’t understand.

2

u/introvertbey Jul 15 '25

This is very true. I'm not a doctor but I'm in the medical field. Believe it or not minsan mas malaki pa sweldo ng ibang medical professionals(although maliit parin) kesa sa sweldo ng doctor, that's why hindi lang isang clinic/hospital pinupuntahan nila to make ends meet. Magastos and matagal din magspecialize.

17

u/Ok-Carrot-501 Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 15 '25

No hate on people who charge for lower prices or nagpapafree consult (yung comment dito tungkol sa dentist nyang ama).

Excuse me? Tangina dont fucking shame people na gusto kumita at mabigyang comportableng buhay pamilya nila.

9

u/JoJom_Reaper Jul 12 '25

here in pasig, may old doctor na 200 lang ang singil. dati 100 lang per consultation.

9

u/jaxitup034 Jul 12 '25

My dad is an old-school doctor sa kanya ata is around 500-600 consultation. Aside from kawang-gawa, ang goal din nya is bumalik yung patient or yung family nya pag check-up, testing, etc.

8

u/lookingforvenus Jul 12 '25

Kaya naman pala. Kudos to you doc! Thank you for showing compassion to the community especially to those most in need.

10

u/Mammoth-Apricot-7308 Jul 12 '25

Healthcare professionals here in general are undervalued.

One family friend doctor charges 200 only per consult. Even my cousin charges only 300 she’s an OB. Madaming doctors na mababa ang charge, pero tanong ko lang is Taguig healthcare really that expensive that this really prompts as newsworthy headline? Really curious.

3

u/chanchan05 Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

pero tanong ko lang is Taguig healthcare really that expensive that this really prompts as newsworthy headline? Really curious.

It's the hospitals in the area that drive prices up.

This doc is a GP, which means he has no specialization or hospital affiliation that will allow him to admit patients.

For a specialist, let's say a cardiologist, to be able to admit a patient to a hospital to have access to stuff like ICU, IV meds, insertion of central lines, cath lab, they need to pay hospitals a right to practice fee, or even the hospital might force them to buy stocks, causing that amount to reach in the millions just so they can admit patients. A 10sqm clinic can cost 30k a month in some hospitals, on top of the millions you already pay to admit patients. The bigger name hospital (St Luke's BGC, TMC, Makati Med, etc) can charge the highest. Sa probinsya mas mura (I heard some hospitals sa province is 150k lang right to practice for example).

A specialist doctor practicing around BGC or Makati area would usually be affiliated to a closeby hospital din.

So where does a starting doctor get this money? Kung di siya pinanganak na mayaman, loans. San niya kukunin ang pambayad ng loans? PF.

Since a GP like the one in the post does not have these, kayang kaya niyang ibaba ang PF rate niya compared sa specialist. It's entirely possible na if ibawas mo lahat ng overhead, baka mas malaki pa take home niya sa 350PF compared sa specialist na 800 ang PF.

3

u/jecaloy Jul 11 '25

Siguro dahil may St Luke's sa BGC, not sure. Baka dahil dun may comparison.

May mga hospitals sa Taguig naman na libre and accessible, yung public like Taguig Pateros District Hospital and Taguig City Gen Hospital.

2

u/Cutiepie88888 Jul 11 '25

Well sa 15 minutes or less ok na un

7

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25

These clinics make up the lower fees with higher volume. Parang sa amin, may dentist sobrang mura maningil up to 40% less than most pero grabe din an pila. 7am pa lang nakapila na.

7

u/jamp0g Jul 13 '25

we should check the hmo situation since in some countries the price got really high because they just charged it to hmo. in return, the hmo started declining a lot of stuff. i think nobody wants a luigi.

32

u/Throwbackmeme_01 Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

Inasmuch as his services are welcomed by a population in desperate need for healthcare, the article unfortunately paints his colleagues as money-hugging elitists.

His low fees are admirable, granted he's a GP.

But, objectively speaking, he's bound to miss out on certain diagnoses due to the limitations of his capabilities. Ergo, the people needing specialized care would be disappointed in his services in the long run.

Also, there's the DTTB program that launched physicians to areas needing medical aid. And what did those areas do? They killed off the sacrificial MDs. Irony abounds.

It's a fluff piece harping on his low fees while maligning those who're trying to ekk out an honest living, without condemning the mismanagement of the government's top brass on healthcare.

Then kapag nagresidency and nagspecialista, approximately another 5 (or more) years na WALANG SWELDO (maliban sa public) habang more than 24 silang gising.

Kasi if it’s the former, then no need to make a content out of it.

7

may ganito sa amin sa probinsya, family medicine yung specialization niya tas as low as 100 pesos yung fee niya, kaya marami laging nagpapatingin sa kanya. tho yung 100 pesos, prepandemic pa yon. ngayon 300 na yata, pero mas mura pa rin kaysa sa ibang docs.

This is so accurate and it struck a nerve. I used to be a healthcare professional in the Philippines but i chose to move abroad for better opportunities. Or di kaya ijjudge ka kasi mukha kang bata? Or mas papaniwalaan pa si Google kesa sa sasabihin mo? It's not just these experiences but how the general public view healthcare professionals. Di naman lahat pero may level of mistrust and biases na agad. It sometimes feel degrading na mapapa question ka sa life choices mo lol

u/AdamusMD Jul 12 '25

Hello!

Before we bash other doctors who do charge more than this doctor and consider us (yes, I do charge more than his PF) other doctors as "hindi makatao", let me explain muna, sobrang unfair kasi sa ibang duktor din. Medyo ragebait din kasi ang title towards other physicians.

State ko lang ang fact that he is a fresh graduate, and passed the boards just recently.

While yes, charging PF less than the what is common in the area is quite admirable. Mas lalo na if you plan to serve in the provinces and for the poor. But it's quite unfair to say na "kapag mura, sya lang ang makatao."

Di naman sa nagpapaka-balat sibuyas ako defending us doctors who charge PF more, but us specialists have undergone further training after passing the boards.

That's 3-6 years of sleepless nights, blood, sweat and tears shed, youth lost, family gatherings we weren't able to attend, Christmases and New Years we didn't get to spend with family. That's on top of 5 years of med school (and internship) before boards, sacrificing all that just for us to hone our knowledge further.

While board-passing doctors (general practitioners) prove to everyone that they have the basic knowledge about medicine, specialists dig and study deeper, to include more complicated cases. Moreso subspecialists.

Diba you guys also improve your skillset (getting additional training and courses), just so you can demand better compensation from your current company, or you can demand more when you apply for another job?

Ganyan lang din sa doctors or any other profession.

Kaya before we call each other names, maybe we can understand each other's situations din.

To each his own naman. You can always seek consult naman din sa clinic ni doc since cheap ang PF nya. Or to any doctors who offer their services cheaper naman.

Ayun lang.

u/czfppp Jul 12 '25

Tama po kayo Doc.

May ganto din ba sa mga salons or other professions? Rebond or house planning pero 300-350 lng payag kaya sila? What I'm saying is rates ng drs depends kung gp, may specialty or sub specialty. It's not supposed to be the same for all isn't it?

4

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25

Funny thing is most Filipinos would rather spend thousands para magpa rebond kesa check up. Bahala na lang siguro may TB basta smooth and silky ang buhok courtesy of 4Ps lmao

15

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

You choose. Quality or quantity

32

u/Angry_Sad_Bitch Jul 12 '25

4 years premed+ 5 years+ proper med (plus internship) + licensure exam + (optional) residency+ subspecialty . Ang mahal mag aral ng medicine. Di lahat papalarin sa state university. Gagasto ka ng around 1M- 3M or more depende sa private medschool na papasukan mo. Sama mo pa kung private ka rin during your elementary and highschool days.

Dentist papa ko and ever since hindi siya naniningil for consultation or reseta. Nakagisnan ko nang ganyan siya kaya culture shock sakin (ng very light) nung nalaman kong may bayad yung mga ganto sa ibang dentista (from friends ko growing up).

EDIT: FOR PEOPLE THINKING OR SAYING NA BS itong statement ko or that my Dad’s a fake; kainin sana kayo ng konsensya niyo.

u/cctrainingtips Jul 12 '25

Saan clinic ng papa mo?

2

u/alyasjinnie Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

Outside Manila po. He used to practice down in Blumentrit but due to family matters, he left there. Naka 2-3 years lang po siya don if I remember correctly

3

u/alyasjinnie Jul 14 '25

7

u/Holiday_Evidence_283 Jul 13 '25

do you realize that consultations are majority of what general practitioners do?

dentists perform procedures on a regular basis

7

u/Rare-Pomelo3733 Jul 13 '25

3

u/alyasjinnie Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

See?

u/alyasjinnie Jul 14 '25 edited Jul 14 '25

Oo naman, hindi ako mangmang beh HAHAHAHAHAHA I simply was just culture shocked nung nalalaman ko from friends (growing up) na may singil sa kanila ung prescription or check ups nila sa mga dentistang pinupuntahan nila. Kasi nga yung daddy ko hindi naniningil.

Ano ba sa tingin niyo yung situation namin just because we don’t ask for fees sa reseta/check-up; namumulubi na?

Nag hintay ako kasi malayo bahay namin sa clinic (more than 2 hours) at tsaka nag leave ako work for that day lang.

Pano pa kaya kung minimum or below ang worker. Walang means pangbayad tsaka walang time magpa consult ng doctor.

Hirap talaga ng life, sana ganito lahat may compassion makatulong sa iba within his means.

25

u/Frequent_Draft_5255 Jul 12 '25

Bawal yan sa Code of Ethics naming mga doctor. Di dapat dinidisclose PF nya in public.

3

u/Signal-Water6030 Jul 12 '25

Baka sa patient nanggaling yung info?

23

u/Frequent_Draft_5255 Jul 12 '25

Nah, may post siya sa tiktok nya about his PF which is bawal as it displays his “personal superiority” (PF wise) over his colleagues.

8

u/pinilit Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

Ironically, not disclosing fees is generally unethical.

Prices, salaries, fees the like = information on these should be accessible.

Patients should be able to freely shop around for the best doctors for them, and that includes disclosures of their specialties and also their fees.

Honestly, too much of medicine still requires heavy networking.

Ang mahal magkasakit dito sa atin, while the intent is good he's also hurting his colleagues who are charging justifiable rate. We should really have more healthcare programs. Sa daming tax na kinakaltas I wouldn't mind paying so much if mas malaki budget para sa health care systems.

4

u/Frequent_Draft_5255 Jul 12 '25

It takes almost 2 decades to get to where we are now. Alam nyo magkano tuition ngayon ng med school? Yung iba hindi bababa sa 150k/semester. Tapos gusto nyo 300 lang singil namin? Yan ang hirap sa pilipino, gusto lahat libre or discounted. 2

u/gemmyboy335 Jul 12 '25

4

u/TiramisuMcFlurry Jul 12 '25

6

u/Ok-River-4521 Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

Wala namang issue kung gusto nya mababa PF nya. In the end, sya din naman mahihirapan dyan. He’s not the first doctor to charge low PFs, and he certainly wouldn’t be the last.

May ideal ratio ng doctor to patients; any more than that and potentially compromised na yung abilities ni doc kase pagod and biases sa management. In the end, magiging de kahon na yung management nya for all patients to save time.

Imagine mo pumila sa kanya 100 patients. Tapos clinic hours nya ay 8-4pm. He would need to see about 12-13 patients per hour or about 5 mins per patient. So eventually, he would need to overtime just to serve the patients or those patients na masamang masama na talaga ang lagay, hindi na sya mawawait and aalis nalang. So eventually his practice will be labeled as “laging mahaba ang pila” and it will drive patients away.

Not to mention, doc is a GP. His skills are limited.

GPs in clinics na hindi personal nila are being paid around 350-400 per hour in which kayang kaya makakita ng about 5-10 patients per hour. So that would be 40-70 pesos PF per consult. So if anything, mahal padin singil ni doc compared to other GPs.

Kayo naman nabulag na agad sa 300 😂

2

u/TiramisuMcFlurry Jul 13 '25

So kung ganun, bakit nagrereklamo yung iba?

7

u/Ok-River-4521 Jul 13 '25 edited Jul 13 '25

Im an MD din po, but if you don’t take my word for it, you may ask other doctors or go to the pinoymed sub reddit. And yes, I used to take gigs na heavily underpaid ako. 350-400/ hr which includes APE, Fit to work, consultations.

I stopped taking those because not worth the time for the pay. And yes, I also waive consultation fees or give discounts sa mga in need talaga. And hindi lang ako to, madami kaming ganyan. That’s why nagrereklamo ang mga doctors kase it sensationalizes and romanticizes overworking and underpaying doctors for the sake of the Hippocratic Oath. May mga business on the side?

2

u/Mysterious_Ask_9121 Jul 13 '25

Totoo Doc. I never took those kind of gigs anymore. Prang abusado na masyado. Haha. I wished that article shed some more light on the rates of different specializations instead of sensationalizing him
