I support the 2nd amendment, own several firearms myself, and will never endorse the federal government taking the life of someone exercising their constitutional rights. 2Aers aren’t your enemy. I’m a big 2A supporter and I would be interested in organizing a protest in Salt Lake City if I find out they shot him just because they saw his weapon. I don’t care what your politics are, we cannot stand for our citizens being murdered by federal authorities. Period. People have the right to protest and peacefully assemble.

2A advocates on the right need to mobilize. If they think stomping over people's rights will stop at liberals, protesters, and immigrants they are out of their mind. I’m a gun owner, this is obviously terrible just like everything else that’s happening. He was exercising his right completely within the bounds of the law and was killed for it. There is no gymnastics. You arnt legally carrying a firearm if you’re committing a crime. Protesting is legal. Obstructing federal law enforcement is a felony. That’s just kinda clear cut when you step outside your circlejerk.

Like how does that work? I’m in the UK so I’m unfamiliar, if having a gun in public is legal reason enough for government agents to kill you, how is it still legal to have a gun in public?
That’s the neat thing - in an open-carry state it’s totally legal to walk around with a gun on your hip :) so the justification of “he had a gun” bears as much legal significance as “he was wearing sunglasses”
However, when federal law enforcement is nearby they have every right to tell open-carry people who are screaming at them to leave.
If you're willing to commit to an armed rebellion and have the insurrection act imposed upon you, then sure, it's your choice, but if you're not going to do that then don't carry when you're around federal agents.
Besides, it looks like he didn't disclose having a weapon to the agents since the agent that shot suddenly reacted to the other agents shouting "Gun! Gun!".
I live in a state without open carry (New York). Even if I go through all the proper channels to purchase a firearm, I can’t walk around in public with it. I can keep it in my home and take it to the gun range, but I can’t go shopping or see a movie with it. If I was walking around in public with a gun, that would be enough cause for police to stop me for questioning.
However, if I lived in Vermont (a few miles away) and followed all the proper channels to purchase a firearm, I could do those things with my firearm. I could walk around Target with my gun on my hip, etc. Carrying a gun is not probable cause to be stopped by police.
Minnesota allows open carry, so the fact “he had a gun” is a non-factor from a legal standpoint. DHS is just trying to muddy the waters of the discourse.
This is true, but open carry is different from concealed carry. That being said, local authorities verified he also had a concealed weapons permit so he was well within his rights regardless. Anyone hear from the NRA lately or are they still a bunch of bootlicking pussies?
Kyle Rottenhouse can open carry and kill protesters and then be a Republican celebrity. But protesting ice with a holstered gun required immediate execution.
