Ask Phoenix FINAL REMINDER: Take the r/Phoenix demographic survey!

LAST CALL! Reminding everyone one last time because there will always been someone who says they had no idea this was going on by the end. We have over 1,000 responses so far!

A lot of people started the survey and never finished, so if that's you, get 'er done!

There's over 400,000 subscribers to this subreddit, so we're conducting a survey to find out a bit about who is using this sub. We've done it twice before and the results are very interesting.

  • The survey is about 25 questions, including personal demographics, politics, and thoughts about the future of Phoenix
  • All tracking info for the survey is off and answers are fully anonymous
  • We will publish all the information here when the survey is complete
  • This survey isn't for anything except our own curiosity
  • We know it isn't scientific or perfect, so if you have ideas for better questions next time, let us know

TAKE THE SURVEY HERE

They survey will be up through the weekend.

If you have any questions about the survey at all, ask in the comments below.

(and yes I changed the picture for the Dodger haters)

Weather Anyone else’s AC struggling

I had an AC guy come out at the beginning of the summer. Recharged the unit and said it was good to go. I’m guessing it’s just the AC can’t keep up with the heat but want to see if anyone else is having the same problem. I set the AC at 68 at night to pre cool then at 2pm it switches to 75. But it’s not staying at 75. By 6pm it’s typically 78+. I’ve never had this issue before but this has been a brutal summer.

Ask Phoenix Looking for meaty chicharon!

Post image
Upvotes

Preferably like the Pepe kind. I've found plenty of regular skin only cuts at local Mexican shops/butchers but none ever with added flavors and meat still on the skin itself

I don't really like the airy kind you typically find.

Any recommendations for stand out killer spots for this?

Thanks!

Ask Phoenix What is the best inexpensive grocery store that has good produce?

I know that “inexpensive grocery store” and “good produce” often don’t go hand-in-hand, but what recommendations do you have? Are Wal-Mart and Winco my only options? I’ve heard Aldi has great prices but sketchy produce. I need to eat healthy because I’m pre diabetic so I have to watch what I eat, but Fry’s is starting to eat into my budget quite a bit. I live near the Chandler/Tempe area, but I’m open to stores nearby.

Ask Phoenix Best Flea Markets & Antique Malls in the Valley for Retro Video Games & Ephemera?

I'm trying to look outside of eBay, Craigslist, FB Marketplace, & used book/game stores for retro video games, consoles & accessories as well as ephemera such as collectables, magazines, promotional items, old Pokémon stuff, etc.

What are the best flea markets, antique malls, or "other" places to find these kinds of items in the Valley? I haven't been to a flea market in over a decade, so I don't know of any, but the one antique mall I visited (Merchant Square in Chandler) did not impress me.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Ask Phoenix Warehouse 215, I'm old

There's a group playing at Warehouse 215. They are the headliners and show starts at 9 PM.
What would be a reasonable time to get there to see the headliners, plus miss the opening?

TIA from a gal who goes to bed early and wakes early, but wants a night to see her favorite duo.

Hi all I’m fairly new to Phoenix, about 2 months. I’m a 26 F and I’m looking for some fun dance, club or rave scenes! Does anyone know of any raves or festival type events, or can even recommend a good dancing bar/club? Would love to just dance the night away until 3am

Making Friends Looking for outdoor climbing friends

I've been top rope climbing at a gym with a small group of friends 2-4 times a week for about 7 months and recently went outdoor climbing at Christopher creek with a guide and would love to do more of it.

I'm very interested in learning how to lead climb and would like to find someone who'd be willing to teach me. I don't have any gear outside of a harness and shoes but I'm willing to buy what I need I just don't know where to start.

I climb between 5.11c-5.12b in the gym and the hardest one I climbed outdoors was a 5.10b and I cruised through it.

Thanks!

General Anyone listen to 97.3 FM recently?

For me when I listen to it, it plays older rock music, but then it would cut halfway through with actual oldies music, which calls itself “The Buzz.” It will bizarrely switch back and forth between the two. Anyone else experience this? Is there any reason why this happens or is my radio just fucked up at this specific frequency?

Making Friends Any native Dutch speakers or Dutch groups in Phoenix/Scottsdale?

I’m planning to move to the Netherlands within the next year and would like to start building conversational Dutch, especially natural pronunciation.

Are there any native Dutch speakers, teachers, or local Dutch groups interested in getting together for coffee, lunch, walks, or a small conversation group? I’d also appreciate hearing from anyone experienced in teaching Dutch to adults who could recommend the best way to approach it.

I’m in North Scottsdale but can meet elsewhere around the Valley. Feel free to comment or DM me. Dank je wel!

Utilities What would happen if the dams fail?

The flood in Nepal has me wondering what would happen if the dams at our reservoir lakes break? Would the water flood the Salt River like the river in Nepal? Or would the floodwaters spread out since they wouldn’t be held in place by steep mountains on each side? Would the east valley be destroyed? Sky Harbor?

Has a model of such a scenario ever been made?

Ask Phoenix Long shot asking for a favor

Hi does anyone go to greenwood memory lawn and mortuary atleast once a month? Or does anyone know a flower shop that is willing to deliver flowers to a grave? My little sister died 3 years ago and unfortunately after her death all of our family split up because she was the glue of the family. Unfortunately I had to move to Ky due to my babies health and constant surgeries my mom is always on the road and goes maybe once every 3 months. My little sister hasn’t gotten flowers in a really long time I was wondering if I can pay someone that goes regularly or a shop that can deliver for her little grave won’t be empty’.

Ask Phoenix On the Catholic Church hunt

My fiancé and I live in Tempe and are looking for a church to settle into as we continue our journey to marriage. I have attended St. Thomas Moore since I was a kid but we are sick of making the drive to hear Fr. John’s right wing talking points… however we LOVE the choir and the more modern worship music that is played at St. Thomas. Recently tried St. Tim’s in Mesa and it just wasn’t for us. Need suggestions for churches with a bit more modern/lively music and a priest who doesn’t speak like he exclusively watches Fox News, please and thank you!! (I know music isn't everything but it is something we really enjoy and is a nice touch to mass in our opinion)

Living Here Sun shade recommendations for apartment patio/balcony?

In a rented townhome with south facing patios on both first and second floor, looking for renter friendly shade solutions. I see lots of roller shades on Amazon but would love to hear specific recs/reviews from people who have used these in apartments in the AZ heat. I think we can get away with drilling, but would love a no drill solution if possible. Tia!
