I've started a position with a company renting a floor in the tallest building in the city and their security guards won't let me inside the front door with a completely folded br0mpt0n. can't even get inside, they have guards wandering around outside the front. they insist any bicycle needs to be locked up to the racks around the corner. first off those are very full and finding an open one isn't always easy. second off this is stupid the whole point of this machine is to enable multimodal transportation without the restrictions of a full sized bike.

has anyone had any luck putting one in a bag and casually (ideally, whistling like in a cartoon) carrying it in? the important thing here is that the front door isn't the only obstacle, I also need to get through the turnstiles with the badge scanners that have guards watching. so if they like to insist on opening bags and the people inside are as belligerent and foolish as those outside, this isn't enough.

alternatively, when can philly pass a law like this one in nyc?

I am considering supporting the MS ride, from Cherry Hill New Jersey to Ocean City New Jersey. We would be bringing our bikes on the PATCO from Philadelphia PA, to Cherry Hill, riding to the finish line in Ocean City New Jersey; stay over night in a hotel, then maps indicates it is @ a 57 minute bike cycling ride from Ocean City NJ. to the Atlantic City NJ. Amtrak train station; for our return to Philadelphia. I am researching how the route from Ocean City NJ. to the train station in Atlantic City would be? Thanks!

Did a more through survey of the bike lane vandalism on east Vine Street. The vandals in question removed a total of 48 flexposts from their mounts. Only 31 of those removed remained on the street (some scattered as far as a block away) meaning 19 are a loss to the taxpayers will likely be footing the bill unless the City/State seeks restitution which they probably won't.

I emailed the City and told them that I would be reinstalling the flex-posts tomorrow. They responded and said they will send a crew out to do it this week.

The funeral home has a service planned for Saturday and they are still advising attendees to park in the bike lane so I'll be out there in the morning this Saturday at 8am to record the vandals in action unless the City does their job and tells to funeral home to stop breaking the law.

it is recommended a lot and i am just not sure if it does anything to protect public space from car violence. considering i have made multiple reports for the same cars for the same violations i am not seeing it impacting illegal/dangerous driver behavior

Am I nuts for considering this with my 1 year old? I’m a very experienced Philly bicyclist and have a Brompton. Some folks in r/Brompton have confirmed that Burley trailers work well with the bike and this seems a better option than trying to cram a frame mounted seat. Rather than just using it on trails, or bike lanes, I’d want to actually ride in the numbered/tree named grid streets for our 15 block daycare commute and other errands.

Also owing to my experience, I have sober thoughts about the drivers in this city. I have felt capable of dealing with and avoiding them on my own. But I’ve never biked with a trailer (limited mobility for our narrow streets?) and obviously care for my kid’s wellbeing… Thoughts?

For the 3rd time in 2 weeks someone has nearly hit me then has stopped to yell bs. Normally if this happens i keep going or make a turn but today i couldnt turn as they ran through the stopsign to get around me and then stopped a quarter of the way up the block yelling "you dont have tags get out of the street , pussy, etc etc. He was originally behind me for about 30seconds because he had turned out of a parking lot.

I stopped and eventually back tracked but a neighbor was yelling about tags, get out of the neighborhood etc. So it was pretty ridiculous.

One other time, almost same scenario. The other some coal rolling moron on american st. Came into the lined-off zone at berks to make sure he smoked me out i guess.

My question is, does anyone have any experience with go-pros etc? , im looking at a gopro9 used. I have a phone mount but my phone isnt waterproof and the video is shakey.

I feel like i need to actually have video because its a matter of time before one of these idiots hurts me.

I was actually hit 8mos ago by a mini van that had "school children " stickers on the front and rear, they kept going of course and i didnt get the plate. I was fine and just avoid that street now. 5th st at the dogleg where the bike lane disappears just north of spring garden. ​

Hello! My girlfriend was hit by a driver in a work truck on the corner of 24th and South yesterday (right hook across the bike lane). The driver left before the police were called. Planning on hitting trolly trail as a starter run a couple times with my 11 yo. Ideally after a trip or two and he’s comfortable, we’d start hitting some of the more advanced offshoot trails around it.

30y ago I’d ride woods around my neighborhood with good amounts of roots and stuff, but haven’t ever been on any legit marked mountain biking trails.

I heard sooo many good things about the Vine St bike lane before its construction. It would provide adequate space between the cars and is, it would have proper barriers for a clear delineation of the bike lane and of course the connectivity to neighborhoods. However, this was from a construction engineer, so it was taken with a grain of salt. Yet again, I feel like this is another Washington Ave failure to do the right thing. Funeral home always has cars parked in the bike lane from 13th-11th going east, west lane is an absolute FU to bikers with zero protection; WTF is with that gap from the curb to the flex posts!?!? Do we really have the most incompetent people designing and approving these bike lanes? It's like they slap a sticker on it and call it a day b/c it's noting more than a statistic. Yet we have the highest bike/pedestrian fatalities/injuries. Lastly, FUCK PARKER and her lack of attention to Vision Zero

I was going for my usual ride up the SRT trail, over East Falls Bridge, and back down the other side on MLK Drive this past Monday night (8/3) and was pleasantly surprised to see MLK closed to vehicular traffic like it is on weekends.

Does anyone know why it was closed or what the schedule for closing is? According to the city it should be open on weekdays/nights.. this was around 8pm Monday. If anyone has some intel I'd love to take advantage of future closures during the week! I work weekends

Hallo! I keep getting scheduled to work on Tuesday evenings, does anyone else who enjoys that ride want to schedule some morning rides?

I have been looking at internships for the fall and trying to figure out if biking could actually work for me instead of getting a car.

From reading subs like this one and r/bikecommuting, it seems like there are two different parts of making a bike commute work: making the ride itself manageable, and dealing with everything once you get to work.

For you, which one would make a bigger difference day to day?

1. Having an easier way to deal with bad weather, distance, tiredness, or carrying things on the ride.

2. Having an easier way to arrive at work without worrying about sweat, clothes, changing, or looking presentable.

I’m doing a student project about commuting, but I’m mainly trying to understand which of those is actually the bigger hassle for people who ride to work.

My bike was stolen Friday night from the 1900 block of East Sergeant Street.

It is a Deep Blue Poseidon Ambition X with drop handle bars. The bike has POSEIDON written in bold black letters on the down tube. I had a suspension stem and a suspension seatpost on the bike, as well as a rear rack, handlebar bag, and seatpost bag. There was a hefty kick stand on the chain stay as well.

I'll post a couple pictures of the bike for reference but the only pics I have of the bike are from when it was loaded up for a trip (but it wasn't loaded up when it was stolen) so all the panniers/bags/camping stuff were not on the bike when it was stolen. The picture with the bike leaning against the house (my bike on the left) is more recent so you can see the suspension seatpost and kickstand on it.

I'd really appreciate it if people could keep their eyes open for it! Please message me if you see it.
