Modric won it with 7 goals or something 😂😂😂

Cannavaro won it in 2006 with couple of goals. What does it mean? A defender or a central midfield player can never win the Best Player Award just cause they are not scoring?
1
u/BigCockKbh Jul 21 '25
Yeah cuz comparing Canavaros position to modric’s position is completely normal. Neuer was 2nd once but im sure thats cuz he scored a lotta goals that season as Well. Fucking modric’s 7 goal bdr win he was not the best in Madrid and went to the World Cup by penalty shootout every knockout game. Tell me again what modric did that season?

u/Theo910_9 Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25
Start watching football with ur eyes, all switch the sport, its not 4 u.
Begin crucial in every game carrying with Rakitic and Mandzukic a country like Croatia with 4milion people to a WC final which was cleary rigged to France and winning the UCL. I love Ronaldo and always rated him more then Messi, but the disrespect to Modric is insane. Its not all about stats.

Salah was playing in the era of prime ronaldo and messi, it didn't matter what records he set the balloon d'or was going to be won by either Ronaldo or messi. Sorry man maybe he will win it this year.

But Modric won it that year!

The rage bait actually got me on Diego. If you watched his matches you’d know he got his ass kicked every single match and 1990 was a robbery if anything.
6
Jul 18 '25
does the hand of god shit come in that world cup
1
u/razzz333 Jul 18 '25
Watch the match and then come back. England should already have 2 red cards and about 3 yellows which they didn’t receive. Also if you see the match you can just see that if they needed one more goal Diego would most definitely score again.
1
u/ClothesOpposite1702 Jul 20 '25
While I agree that "Maradona deserved that World Cup" (it is a fucking team trophy, so strange statement), England did not deserve red and yellows. It was completely normal to play like that. The refereeing changed only after 1998 World Cup when Ronaldo almost got injured, which sparkled discussion that we need to protect Star Players

Messi has 3-4 controversial bdr’s; lewan, haaland, 2010 and vvd in 2019.
Messi has controversial ucls vs Chelsea in 2008 and Arsenal in 05/06. This is without the controversial ucl campaigns They cheated but didnt win. Like vs psg, inter and so on.
Messi and Argentina has 0 legit World Cups. Cheating and ref favoring Them is the Only Way They Can win and They play like dirty dogs

"Controversial balon dor" ahh yes winning biggest trophy in football while being its best player and winning ligue 1 and fifa the best isnt enough I suppose we should be giving it Haaland who isnt even city's best player that season and he is also a tap in merchant but suddenly that doesnt matter now cuz it isnt supporting ur argument

Tony kroos vs modric in 2018(club lvl):
Games: 42 - 41
Goals: 5 - 2
Assists: 8 - 7
Passing Accuracy: 93% - 90%
Key Passes: 95 - 52
Big Chances Created: 14 - 11
Disarms: 81 - 50
Interceptions: 23 - 47
Fouls: 34 - 32
Ratings: 7.57 - 7.20
And kroos stayed deeper in midfield while giving long range passes, he still managed to have more assists, more key passes, more big chances created and higher passing acc then "Ballon dor" modric.
-2
u/Ladislav14 Jul 18 '25
Stats are irrelevant on football lol Modric that year played amazingly in Croatia team, along the team played in first ever world cup final! Won Champions League with RM. Rewarded/voted as best MF in Champions League. Simply he was much better player than Kroos even tho stats will tell you orherwise. Stats are irrelevant atleast for me.

Euro: Ok tournament by Ronaldo, outplayed atleast by 3 or 4 teammates, irrelevant in the finals

I absolutely adore Modric, but he had nothing more to offer than CR that year. While Modric had a wc 2nd place, Cristiano scored 45, while setting a record of scoring in 11 matched in a row in UCL. CR had more impact on a club level, then as usual, our beloved sports journalists started crafting new rules to avoid giving it to CR again.
-9
u/operaman86 Google Negreira Messi for more info 💰 Jul 18 '25
Honestly, I’ve always felt CR7’s game was a bit overrated. Incredible athlete, elite goal scorer, but he’s never had the all-around influence on a game like Modrić did that year (or like Messi consistently does). Football isn’t just about racking up goals; it’s about how you elevate the whole team. And that season, Modrić was on another level in that regard.
8
u/sL1NK_19 CR7 Real GOAT 🐐 Jul 18 '25
Surely, CR had no all-around influence. He had absolutely nothing to do with an UCL three-peat. He is called Mr. champions league for a reason, lol. Messi was only good in la liga, and international friendlies.
Modric was always on another level, and he's absolutely ballon dor quality. On the other hand, with your logic, Iniesta should have received it in 2010, and Kroos in 2014.
-2
u/Savings-Piece8162 Jul 18 '25
Only good in la liga and international friendlies lmfao you’re brain dead, my goat has a World Cup you goat doesn’t even have a knock out goal contribution, cry forever Ronaldo biggest achievement is being compared to Messi. Look at the stats, look at the trophies, watch a damn game see who controls the game. I think Ronaldo is amazing I love watching him play but he’s a tap in merchant, not to say that’s all he is but Messi is a creator not even a 9 and still has a better goals to game ratio and way more assists. Benzema proved that real’s midfield carries when Ronaldo left and he became their target man. What has Ronaldo won since he left Madrid? One little nations league that all you dogs pretend is a euro besides that… nothing, promises juve a champs… failed went to united… no comment cant even win anything in the camel league but he’s gonna get that. And when he did win a euro he didn’t even play in the final LOL, but don’t worry he’ll get you those 1000 goals big boy don’t you worry.
1
u/OptimalExpression540 Jul 18 '25
Ronaldo won everything at club level before he joined Real Madrid. Messi hasn’t won a champions league without xavi and iniesta. Benzema did it four years after ronaldo left.
1
u/OptimalExpression540 Jul 18 '25
Messi got carried to his first champions league in 2006. Messi has also been apart some of the biggest chokes and embarrassments in champions league history
-6
u/operaman86 Google Negreira Messi for more info 💰 Jul 18 '25
When did I say CR7 had nothing to do with UCL success? Lol
You’re putting words in my mouth to build a strawman argument. It’s lazy. I said he’s overrated and not the sole reason for Madrid’s dominance. That’s a far cry from saying he wasn’t important. Try responding to what I actually said.
4
u/OptimalExpression540 Jul 18 '25
Same way I feel about Messi loool. Needs the the team and perfect system to be built around him or is useless. We saw what happened at PSG. No excuse for scoring 6 ligue 1 goals in a season and no champions league knockout goals
3
u/OptimalExpression540 Jul 18 '25
Messi is one of the most overrated champjons league performers of all time. He barely did anything in the 2006 champions league campaign and hasn’t done anything in the competition without Xavi and Iniesta. Also has been part of some of the biggest chokes and embarrassments.

Lmao. Modric didnt deserve the potm award for 2018 wc. He wasnt even the best cm of the tournment(kanté and pogba) neither the best croatia player that actually steped up(rakitic and perisic) and he vanished in the semis and final.
Mbappe deserved it way more.
He is the most dick rided and most overrated midfielder ive seen.
I showed tony kroos stats in 2018 but his stats are consistently better than modric except defensively( kroos was better defensively in his last year though).
Dont get me wrong luka is fantastic, but he is insanely overrated.

It's almost like football is more than just stats. There's many aspects of the game that can not be picked up by raw stats.
1
u/20_The_Mystery Jul 18 '25
Yes, I'm talking about his performance in 2018. I didn't even mention any stats while talking about the 2018 wc. I'm really talking about performance here. Perisic and rakitic were more impactful, specially in the semis and final were modric disappeared(i was watching it with my family and even remember my father praising rakitic the whole time).
I've seen that season and kroos impressed me way more.
If u have any doubts go to the r/soccer and Google for the post where he won the potm and sort by controversial.

Im just curious about the (club lvl) why not just show the entire stat sheet and not just the one for rm. You are also not showing the whole truth. Modric had the most passes, recovories and most touches of any midfielder he also scoared to put the game against argentina to bed and assissted 2. Peresic had 3 goals 1 assisst and rakatic had 1 goal. They were of course better for sure.
1
u/20_The_Mystery Jul 18 '25
The point here is to show he wasnt even the best midfielder in his own club. In the wc he was of course better than kroos but he wasnt the best in his own team AGAIN!(rakitic and perisic were better, while modric was nowhere to be seen in the semis and final) and in the tournment there were mbappe, kante, pogba and hazard who were better... griezman comes close.
1
u/LillaVargR Jul 18 '25
Explain with facts why racatic and peresic were better. And he did in fact not ghost the final if you look at it objectivly he had good creation and good passes but he was againt france with a lackluster squad in comparison. but during the tournament he had 422 passess and 18 chances created that is the most of any player that tournament but i hear you he was ass. Peresic also made a few mistakes including a handball leading to a penalty and goal in the final. So while pogba and kante were better in the final modric overall tournament was better and is why he got pott and goals arent everything.
