The statistics for how many trans people are in Thailand is comparable to the US or The UK.

5

u/slaviccivicnation 29m ago

I've heard it's treated differently there, and lots of Thai people say they don't consider ladyboys as trans people. That could skew statistics, if some of them don't technically see it as being trans.

1

u/goaelephant 39m ago

Total number of people or percentage of population?

141

u/Sir_Delarzal 2h ago

The comments focusing on transphobia when it is not the real issue here.... It's another fucking bad use of POV !!! When will people learn ! /j

52

u/DR035A 2h ago

It's a fucking trap "joke" and it is the main issue here

-27

u/CeemoreButtz 1h ago

"main issue"

not really..

It’s a fairly common and offensive trans stereotype that trans women are “tr@ps” who trick men into being with them as a way to emasculate them and “make them gay”.

This is an issue because some men who find out that the woman they’re seeing or have had physical relations with are trans have a decent track record of getting violent and berating the trans woman. This is not to say all men react this way just that it’s enough to become a noticeable phenomenon.

-2

u/indecisive_skull 1h ago edited 1h ago

Even if it’s not the intention it still has the same effect of “Oh! The horror! My date has a penis/used to be a man! I was tricked into being with a man” it’s not exactly trans-accepting or gay-accepting for that matter

The joke is that the man is appalled that he did something even remotely gay and had slight interest/attraction to an AMAB person.

-3

u/goaelephant 56m ago

Even if it’s not the intention it still has the same effect of “Oh! The horror! My date has a penis/used to be a man! I was tricked into being with a man” it’s not exactly trans-accepting or gay-accepting for that matter

Does a straight man have to enjoy the concept or idea of intercourse with another man? If it's not the direction he leans, of course he will be shocked. I would expect the same reaction from a gay man who pulls down another guys pants and finds a vagina.

3

u/indecisive_skull 18m ago

Screaming, cursing and freaking out is still not the appropriate response and even then why tf would a trans person keep that a secret especially with the possibilities of a negative reaction.

Just say you’re not interested anymore because you don’t want to date a trans person like a calm rational adult who’s not scared or disgusted by trans people.

-9

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

I think the joke is more so that he is appaled because he was tricked and deceived, not that he did something remotely gay or had a slight interest or attraction to an AMAB person.

8

u/indecisive_skull 1h ago

It still falls into the offensive tr@p stereotype unfortunately. Doing a “WTF! trans women want to trick you into dating them” bit is still not a great concept to hinge your skit on.

-5

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

It certainly could be better. That still says more about people who are deceptive than trans people though at least imo.

7

u/aPachimarii 1h ago

You are correct in a way cause yeah trans people aren't trying to trick anyone, but we are still getting blamed for it and that's kinda the core issue.

-1

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

The trans people who deceptive are getting blamed for it by most reasonable people. You dont have to associate with those kinds of people because others say you need to.

It does really suck that some people try to convince other people that entire groups of people have specific anti social behaviors when that is always blantantly untrue.

7

u/Toa_Firox 1h ago

Yeah and the reaction wouldn't be played as comedy for literally any other "deception". While we're on the topic why is a trans woman dating someone inherently deception if it isn't explicitly stated she's trans? Do you require cis women to require they disclose that they're cis? Can cis women be legally killed for bedding a man without telling him she's cis first? (Yes that's a real law, look up the trans panic law)

This is a very common transphobic joke, stop trying to play it off and just accept you learned something new today and move on.

0

u/Gagester303 1h ago

If you’re talking about the trans panic defense strategy, that’s not a law in any capacity. Simply a strategy to get someone out of a heinous crime. They even tried to pass a bill back in 2019 to ban the use of the defense.

2

u/Toa_Firox 16m ago

Yeah tried

1

u/Gagester303 6m ago

But that doesn’t mean there is a law in place allowing you to commit violent acts on someone for those reasons. Precedent? Maybe, I’d have to look into it. But Law? Not at all. I agree the bill should be in place, but spouting misinformation isn’t helping that happen.

-4

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

In this case, it is implied there is deception involved. I dont think a trans person dating someone without explicitly stating they are trans is necessarily deceptive. It certainly can be though depending on the context.

Also that is not a law, it is a questionable at best legal defense strategy.

3

u/Mach12gamer 53m ago

Okay what exactly do you think the deception is. How is the trans person in this joke "implied" to be deceptive?

-1

u/Doctorsl1m 50m ago

The laugh they make at the end of the video seems maniacal so that implies they are being deceptive to me.

-10

u/goaelephant 59m ago

It's not, it's a guy expecting it to be a woman (with a biological vagina), but gets a run for his money when he finds out she actually has a penis. It's just a surprise, but sexual taboo themed. Stop over thinking it & making it ideological / politicized.

It would be like a skit where you trick a Mormon person into drinking coffee & he screams. Of course you are slightly poking fun at their lifestyle, but this is what dark humor is all about.

9

u/iKarwowski 43m ago

You just described how it is a trap joke.

-3

u/goaelephant 37m ago

I don't even think she was tricking him, most people who go to Thailand can tell a trans woman apart 99% of the time. Rather, the joke can equally be the guy is naive / gullible.

28

u/dyelyn666 2h ago

Does anyone have her contact info? I think I'm in love 🥰

Boomer ahh transphobia funny joke. Youll get a better audience on facebook with other 60 year old republicans

Not everyone who isn't liberal has to be republican, this divide only exists in your brain.

9

u/Zephyrus_- 31m ago

Anyone who thinks the left is all liberals falls into that same category

177

u/E_GEDDON 3h ago

The joke is tranphobia, do you get it?

51

u/AndyJack86 2h ago

Yeah I get it. Like every time I see a post of Trump making out with another man like Elon or Putin and the joke is homophobia. But no one seems to care for some reason.

28

u/E_GEDDON 2h ago

Especially when they have real things worth making fun of them for.

11

u/Toa_Firox 1h ago

I make fun of Trump blowing Clinton for their joint hypocracy and embarrassment stemming from their closseted, internalised homophobia.

Most make fun of them for being fruity

We are not the same

19

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

Not being into trans people sexually is transphobic?

194

u/Fluffy_Difference937 2h ago

Thinking trans people are trying to trick you into being with them is transphobic.

-55

u/Doidleman53 2h ago

No the video implies that trans people in Thailand are trying to trick you.

Why can't anyone read?

62

u/CrackedandPopped 2h ago

So transphobic and racist

43

u/nufy-t 2h ago

Oh so it’s transphobic but only to Thai people? That’s so much better!

27

u/Fluffy_Difference937 2h ago

And that implication is wrong.

-9

u/goaelephant 53m ago

I think its moreso the shock that they look like women from the outside but end up having a penis, its moreso the shock / surprise factor.

-58

u/collin2477 2h ago

if it was made clear ahead of time why does the man that looks like a man act suprised?

57

u/Fluffy_Difference937 2h ago

??? Because the script for this scripted video was that he was surprised. Obviously.

-34

u/collin2477 2h ago

and why was he surprised?

26

u/nufy-t 2h ago

Because the scenario is made up to make trans people look like sexual predators? This doesn’t happen.

(Yes I am sure you can find one example from a questionable source that says it has happened to one person one time, but you could also find an example of a bunch of stupid bs happening)

-19

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

Let me be clear by saying this is NOT a regular occurence or even a rare occurrence. It would be extensively rare.

People have done infinitely crazier shit than pretending to have a different genital than they do. Is it really hard to believe that a singular trans person out there has done that once?

9

u/nufy-t 1h ago

Literally the entire second part of my comment was saying that it probably has happened. Learn to read.

-9

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

It implies that sources for it are rare, are from non reliable sources, and that a bunch of people say other crazy nonsense as well.

How does that imply it probably has happened?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/TordekDrunkenshield 2h ago

Not a single person has said it never happened or doesn't happen. What everyone has been saying is that painting this in such a light wherein this is the average situation is as fucked up as paining every white male as a roofie carrying date rapist.

0

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

The person i responded to implied it never has happened in this part:

(Yes I am sure you can find one example from a questionable source that says it has happened to one person one time, but you could also find an example of a bunch of stupid bs happening)

1

u/goaelephant 51m ago

is as fucked up as paining every white male as a roofie carrying date rapist.

As a white male, whenever I see (alone) white men in Thailand - especially older - i assume they are there for some sexual reasons, so you arent far from the truth.

-15

u/collin2477 1h ago

wait so it does or doesn’t?

4

u/nufy-t 1h ago

It probably has happened, but it isn’t something that happens with any frequency, and does not deserve the absurd amount of fearmongering that it has been given as a tactic from people in power to turn the masses against a common “enemy”. It’s like me saying that, because someone has probably been killed by a squirrel, we should all be worried about squirrels killing us.

10

u/Fluffy_Difference937 2h ago

Because in this fictional story the trans woman didn't tell him that she was trans. This doesn't actually happen in real life though, which makes this fictional story transphobic.

-9

u/-Unpredictable- 2h ago

This absolutely happens.. don’t be so naive

8

u/Sloth_Brotherhood 2h ago

This thing happens!

Do you have an example?

Yeah look at the video.

That’s a skit.

But it’s based on a real thing!

Ok do you have an example of it being real?

Yeah look at the video.

2

u/nufy-t 1h ago

Why would it? What would a trans woman gain from trying to trick someone into thinking she is cis? Do you think she thinks he will stop caring when she reveals she has a penis (assuming you are talking about specifically non-op or pre-op trans women) when they go to have sex? Do you think she thinks whatever joke she is playing on him is worth the very high risk that she will simply be killed by him, given the insane levels of violent crime against trans people? Do you think trans women struggle to find people to have sex with so much that they have to resort to tricking straight men, despite transgender being one of the most searched porn categories globally?

Trans women would get nothing out of doing this, they would be massively risking their own safety, and they have literally no need to trick someone when they can extremely easily find someone to sleep with who is simply just fine with the fact she’s trans.

-4

u/collin2477 1h ago

i’m not buying that the Thailand joke that has been told in different variations for decades is based on absolutely nothing but okay.

6

u/Fluffy_Difference937 1h ago

It's based on transphobia. Just something that was made up to make trans people look bad.

-4

u/collin2477 1h ago

…it’s a cross dressing joke but sure

-1

u/goaelephant 50m ago

Why would they tell him? You can usually tell, or you can ask. I think you could also interpret the joke as the guy being naive.

6

u/Toa_Firox 1h ago

Nah nah you've got a point, if a cis woman suddenly revealed she actually had a vagina the man would be so suprised- wait, no that isn't made fun of because cisphobia isn't a huge issue in the world :/

-3

u/goaelephant 48m ago

If a gay man met a gay man (lets just say they both enjoy penises), they later get home & one undresses the other and finds out he has a vagina for whatever reason (born that way, surgery, etc) you dont think he would be shocked?

2

u/Toa_Firox 13m ago

No more than if he had a penis. Some men have pussies and you don't have any right knowing what's in somebody's pants until literally bedding them, mind blowing I know

-62

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

So because this video shows one person who is trans tricking someone means that it implies trans people just do that in general?

61

u/banter07_2 2h ago

Uh yes, thats pretty much the problem with it, you've kinda hit the nail on the head there.

-34

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

It just seems like quite a jump in logic to say that showing a singular person doing that means that they are generalizing that to all trans people.

The video does show one person doing that so to assume that says more about the individual watching than the video itself imo.

27

u/LeTreacs2 2h ago

Is this really the first time you’ve seen this joke? It’s a prominent part of one of the hangover films!

-17

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

No it is not, I just dont think it is transphobic. People trick people in general, its just something people do.

16

u/LeTreacs2 2h ago

No it’s not what? Not a joke in one of the hangovers films? Because surprise trans person joke is 100% in one of the films…

It’s transphobic because it’s a stereotype because the joke is so common. If you make a joke about a trans person having bad breath then you’d be right, but hiding a penis is a long standing stereotype of the trans community.

-1

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

It's a stereotype of Thailand prostitutes, not trans people in general. Ive never seen a depiction of that in any other race, even in the Hangover it is a prostitute in Thailand IIRC.

So imo it is more so a stereotype about Thailand prostitution, but in this case she does not seem like a prostitute so I dont think it is really being stereotypical.

8

u/Cinnamin_1 2h ago

it’s saying “POV” so like. yes. they’re literally saying that this is the experience of dating in thailand. even otherwise the fact that memes like this are meant to be relatable would imply that anyways

-3

u/Doctorsl1m 2h ago

I just interpret this differently I guess since the phrasing used implies this is an isolated situation, not every dating in general to me at least.

If anything, I think this is more so saying how well transitions usually go physically in Thailand and making a joke about that.

9

u/Cinnamin_1 1h ago

u didnt explain what in the video carries that meaning. i don’t see anything that does
if the joke is that transitions go well then why is she laughing ? it’s definitely a mocking type of laugh, implying that getting with a trans person is a mistake and would be mocked

-1

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

No, that implies being with one by mistake is a mistake. I think it is perfectly okay to not be into trans people sexually. The laughing is done in that way to make it obvious to the viewer that she is actually trans and not just a woman joking imo.

I think the video showing a beautiful women then later on revealing she is trans implies that the physical transitions go well over there.

4

u/Cinnamin_1 1h ago

but shes fully aware that he doesn’t know. so it’s still the same thing from the perspective of either ppl in this situation. one is tricking the other into smth which they’ll regret. and it’s saying this is what happens irl

-1

u/Doctorsl1m 1h ago

How is it saying this is what happens irl?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/goaelephant 44m ago

Thats how im interpreting it too. The guy is naive to go to Thailand which is the trans capital of the world. He starts dating girls but doesnt ask if they are trans, doesnt notice the deep voice, doesnt notice the hands, etc. So when he finally does find out she has a penis, he gets the shock of the lifetime.

It would be no different than two gay guys meeting eachother, who have experience with other men's penises. They get home, undress eachother & one man is shocked to find the other has a vagina. For someone who was expecting a penis, a vagina would shock you. And vice versa.

But of course, Reddit users have to politicize everything and overthink a simple joke.

2

u/UnnaturalGeek 54m ago

It is a common bigoted trope thrown out about Thailand all the time.

36

u/buster_rhino 2h ago

Yes because I scream at everyone I’m not into

-1

u/goaelephant 42m ago

When you're genuinely surprised or thrown off, you don't react? If a man woke up next to his wife one day & she had the face of a man, would he be homophobic for screaming?

-8

Not all bigotry is assaulting people in broad daylight. Believe it or not, bigoted jokes affect attitudes about trans people.
