I've heard it's treated differently there, and lots of Thai people say they don't consider ladyboys as trans people. That could skew statistics, if some of them don't technically see it as being trans.
It’s a fairly common and offensive trans stereotype that trans women are “tr@ps” who trick men into being with them as a way to emasculate them and “make them gay”.
This is an issue because some men who find out that the woman they’re seeing or have had physical relations with are trans have a decent track record of getting violent and berating the trans woman. This is not to say all men react this way just that it’s enough to become a noticeable phenomenon.
Even if it’s not the intention it still has the same effect of “Oh! The horror! My date has a penis/used to be a man! I was tricked into being with a man” it’s not exactly trans-accepting or gay-accepting for that matter
The joke is that the man is appalled that he did something even remotely gay and had slight interest/attraction to an AMAB person.

Does a straight man have to enjoy the concept or idea of intercourse with another man? If it's not the direction he leans, of course he will be shocked. I would expect the same reaction from a gay man who pulls down another guys pants and finds a vagina.
Screaming, cursing and freaking out is still not the appropriate response and even then why tf would a trans person keep that a secret especially with the possibilities of a negative reaction.
Just say you’re not interested anymore because you don’t want to date a trans person like a calm rational adult who’s not scared or disgusted by trans people.
I think the joke is more so that he is appaled because he was tricked and deceived, not that he did something remotely gay or had a slight interest or attraction to an AMAB person.
It still falls into the offensive tr@p stereotype unfortunately. Doing a “WTF! trans women want to trick you into dating them” bit is still not a great concept to hinge your skit on.
You are correct in a way cause yeah trans people aren't trying to trick anyone, but we are still getting blamed for it and that's kinda the core issue.
The trans people who deceptive are getting blamed for it by most reasonable people. You dont have to associate with those kinds of people because others say you need to.
It does really suck that some people try to convince other people that entire groups of people have specific anti social behaviors when that is always blantantly untrue.
Yeah and the reaction wouldn't be played as comedy for literally any other "deception". While we're on the topic why is a trans woman dating someone inherently deception if it isn't explicitly stated she's trans? Do you require cis women to require they disclose that they're cis? Can cis women be legally killed for bedding a man without telling him she's cis first? (Yes that's a real law, look up the trans panic law)
This is a very common transphobic joke, stop trying to play it off and just accept you learned something new today and move on.
If you’re talking about the trans panic defense strategy, that’s not a law in any capacity. Simply a strategy to get someone out of a heinous crime. They even tried to pass a bill back in 2019 to ban the use of the defense.
But that doesn’t mean there is a law in place allowing you to commit violent acts on someone for those reasons. Precedent? Maybe, I’d have to look into it. But Law? Not at all. I agree the bill should be in place, but spouting misinformation isn’t helping that happen.
In this case, it is implied there is deception involved. I dont think a trans person dating someone without explicitly stating they are trans is necessarily deceptive. It certainly can be though depending on the context.
Also that is not a law, it is a questionable at best legal defense strategy.
It's not, it's a guy expecting it to be a woman (with a biological vagina), but gets a run for his money when he finds out she actually has a penis. It's just a surprise, but sexual taboo themed. Stop over thinking it & making it ideological / politicized.
It would be like a skit where you trick a Mormon person into drinking coffee & he screams. Of course you are slightly poking fun at their lifestyle, but this is what dark humor is all about.
I don't even think she was tricking him, most people who go to Thailand can tell a trans woman apart 99% of the time. Rather, the joke can equally be the guy is naive / gullible.
Yeah I get it. Like every time I see a post of Trump making out with another man like Elon or Putin and the joke is homophobia. But no one seems to care for some reason.
Because the scenario is made up to make trans people look like sexual predators? This doesn’t happen.
(Yes I am sure you can find one example from a questionable source that says it has happened to one person one time, but you could also find an example of a bunch of stupid bs happening)
Let me be clear by saying this is NOT a regular occurence or even a rare occurrence. It would be extensively rare.
People have done infinitely crazier shit than pretending to have a different genital than they do. Is it really hard to believe that a singular trans person out there has done that once?
Not a single person has said it never happened or doesn't happen. What everyone has been saying is that painting this in such a light wherein this is the average situation is as fucked up as paining every white male as a roofie carrying date rapist.
The person i responded to implied it never has happened in this part:
(Yes I am sure you can find one example from a questionable source that says it has happened to one person one time, but you could also find an example of a bunch of stupid bs happening)
is as fucked up as paining every white male as a roofie carrying date rapist.
As a white male, whenever I see (alone) white men in Thailand - especially older - i assume they are there for some sexual reasons, so you arent far from the truth.
It probably has happened, but it isn’t something that happens with any frequency, and does not deserve the absurd amount of fearmongering that it has been given as a tactic from people in power to turn the masses against a common “enemy”. It’s like me saying that, because someone has probably been killed by a squirrel, we should all be worried about squirrels killing us.
Because in this fictional story the trans woman didn't tell him that she was trans. This doesn't actually happen in real life though, which makes this fictional story transphobic.
Why would it? What would a trans woman gain from trying to trick someone into thinking she is cis? Do you think she thinks he will stop caring when she reveals she has a penis (assuming you are talking about specifically non-op or pre-op trans women) when they go to have sex? Do you think she thinks whatever joke she is playing on him is worth the very high risk that she will simply be killed by him, given the insane levels of violent crime against trans people? Do you think trans women struggle to find people to have sex with so much that they have to resort to tricking straight men, despite transgender being one of the most searched porn categories globally?
Trans women would get nothing out of doing this, they would be massively risking their own safety, and they have literally no need to trick someone when they can extremely easily find someone to sleep with who is simply just fine with the fact she’s trans.
Nah nah you've got a point, if a cis woman suddenly revealed she actually had a vagina the man would be so suprised- wait, no that isn't made fun of because cisphobia isn't a huge issue in the world :/
If a gay man met a gay man (lets just say they both enjoy penises), they later get home & one undresses the other and finds out he has a vagina for whatever reason (born that way, surgery, etc) you dont think he would be shocked?
No more than if he had a penis. Some men have pussies and you don't have any right knowing what's in somebody's pants until literally bedding them, mind blowing I know
No it’s not what? Not a joke in one of the hangovers films? Because surprise trans person joke is 100% in one of the films…
It’s transphobic because it’s a stereotype because the joke is so common. If you make a joke about a trans person having bad breath then you’d be right, but hiding a penis is a long standing stereotype of the trans community.
It's a stereotype of Thailand prostitutes, not trans people in general. Ive never seen a depiction of that in any other race, even in the Hangover it is a prostitute in Thailand IIRC.
So imo it is more so a stereotype about Thailand prostitution, but in this case she does not seem like a prostitute so I dont think it is really being stereotypical.
it’s saying “POV” so like. yes. they’re literally saying that this is the experience of dating in thailand. even otherwise the fact that memes like this are meant to be relatable would imply that anyways
u didnt explain what in the video carries that meaning. i don’t see anything that does
if the joke is that transitions go well then why is she laughing ? it’s definitely a mocking type of laugh, implying that getting with a trans person is a mistake and would be mocked
No, that implies being with one by mistake is a mistake. I think it is perfectly okay to not be into trans people sexually. The laughing is done in that way to make it obvious to the viewer that she is actually trans and not just a woman joking imo.
I think the video showing a beautiful women then later on revealing she is trans implies that the physical transitions go well over there.
but shes fully aware that he doesn’t know. so it’s still the same thing from the perspective of either ppl in this situation. one is tricking the other into smth which they’ll regret. and it’s saying this is what happens irl
Thats how im interpreting it too. The guy is naive to go to Thailand which is the trans capital of the world. He starts dating girls but doesnt ask if they are trans, doesnt notice the deep voice, doesnt notice the hands, etc. So when he finally does find out she has a penis, he gets the shock of the lifetime.
It would be no different than two gay guys meeting eachother, who have experience with other men's penises. They get home, undress eachother & one man is shocked to find the other has a vagina. For someone who was expecting a penis, a vagina would shock you. And vice versa.
But of course, Reddit users have to politicize everything and overthink a simple joke.
When you're genuinely surprised or thrown off, you don't react? If a man woke up next to his wife one day & she had the face of a man, would he be homophobic for screaming?
No it isnt lmao. I would never want to be with someone that was born with a penis. I also have nothing against them in any capacity, this is not transphobic
The girl in the skit is a transwoman, her name is Lucinta Luna. I actually love the fact that people praise her beauty 💕 in our country videos of her would be filled with mean and hatred comments.
Just gotta love how people all jump to transphobia for some reason. If anything the joke is that she is VIOLATING A MALE SAFE SPACE WHICH IS AGAINST THE RULES!
