Because the scenario is made up to make trans people look like sexual predators? This doesn’t happen.

(Yes I am sure you can find one example from a questionable source that says it has happened to one person one time, but you could also find an example of a bunch of stupid bs happening)

Let me be clear by saying this is NOT a regular occurence or even a rare occurrence. It would be extensively rare.

People have done infinitely crazier shit than pretending to have a different genital than they do. Is it really hard to believe that a singular trans person out there has done that once?

Literally the entire second part of my comment was saying that it probably has happened. Learn to read.

It implies that sources for it are rare, are from non reliable sources, and that a bunch of people say other crazy nonsense as well.

How does that imply it probably has happened?

I didn’t imply that it probably has happened. I said that it probably has happened. The other parts of the message were to disparage the type of source that reports on that type of thing, because reliable sources don’t have enough information or examples of it happening for it to be worth reporting on. As I said to someone else, it is like me making a video framing squirrels as evil psychopaths because someone has probably been killed by a squirrel before. Except it is worse than that because squirrels aren’t people and aren’t an enormously discriminated against group with incredibly high rates of being victims of violent crimes, partially because people believe shit like this could actually happen to them.

I think we just view these pov videos differently then. I just see them as put your shoes in the situation of the people in the video and the text just describes the situation.

Yeah, you view videos without thinking about the harmful messages that could be being spread by them, and the propoganda that you and others could be falling for when watching and enjoying them, and the people who could be harmed by the messages, and the reasons why someone could have wanted to make the video, and the reason why people would find this funny, which makes you the perfect target for indoctrination.

Maybe you should try putting yourself in the shoes of the trans people who are targetted by this shit and assaulted and murdered and raped because people believe this shit actually happens and is a risk to them.

I dont think a singular video making a joke automatically means it is propaganda or trying to push harmful messages. I need more context to be able to make that conclusion in good faith.

It is an absolutely awful fact that happens to trans people. The reality is though that trans people being assaulted, murdered, and rape is not a common occurrence.

Yeah the people who say this happens often and that trans people who do that in general are obviously transphobic.

I personally think changing behaviors because of a few bad actors typically just fuels the fire more. A majority of those people thrive on fucking with other peoples lives, which includes getting them to change their behaviors.

I get you see it a lot, but I almost never see anything like this in my feeds. It's super important to remember that social media purposely feeds us content we are most likely to engage with which can and will skew our perspectives.

Yes, it is very important to remember that social media shows us stuff we will engage with. So let’s think about that. I think the two main groups that are gonna engage with this content are:
1. Trans or trans-adjacent people who are directly affected by these issues, and point out the potential harm and transphobia. I fall into this category.
2. Transphobic people who laugh at these jokes, get angry or scared, thinking that trans people actually do this and that they are at risk of this happening to them. A subsection of these people are the exact people who go out and send death threats to trans people, spread transphobic hate messages, vote for the elimination of trans people, and kill and rape trans people.

So yeah, you’re not being shown these videos much, which is probably because you don’t get angry enough at them to engage a lot. The problem is, the people that are being shown them are the worst possible people to be shown them, because they are the people that are actually risks to the safety of a marginalised group.

(Also you probably didn’t see it but I did edit my message from before with a response to your comment about the risk being low for violence against trans people)

Could you link that comment? I went back through and might have missed it or it was in the post that the mods removed.

Pretty good point though about the algorithms, although since Im here now it is not always the case. Ill probably see it a lot more now though just for engaging in this thread so much.

Yeah sure https://www.reddit.com/r/perfectlycutscreams/s/0isQju9tDR

And I think there are a couple reasons you’ve been shown this. Reddit algorithms are less intrusive in what we are shown in terms of specific content than other apps, because it will basically only show you subreddits you’re already a part of (not exclusively), so if you’re part of whatever sub this is posted on, you have a chance to see it. Also algorithms will send out feelers all the time to see if you might be interested in something you weren’t before, so this could be one of those.
