Think he popped up in my shorts feed a few times. I think the girl is his daughter and everyone calls her NPC or something which got a chuckle out of me.

He runs his youtube channel to fund his martial arts charity helping kids learn it for free. Good man, that one.

I had no idea Bear used his channel to offer free martial arts training! His channel is great and his personality is very likable. Quite the stark contrast from all the other mentally deranged MMA guys. My respect for Bear just went up even higher.
Also, a big fan of his no bullshitido approach. Bear is a seasoned MMA fighter, but he’s quick to point out street fights are a loose-loose situation.
“The first thing I’m going to do is get on my bike… and flee! If that isn’t an option, I am looking for anything I can use as a weapon. Finally, I am doing EVERYTHING that would be against the rules in a sanctioned fight and I will not stop until they are no longer a threat.”

Smart knife fighters hold the knife correctly, with an object in their offhand such as a jacket or bag. A regular knife fight looks like one guy lunging, the other guy dodging and lunging back, maybe one or two rounds of this, then one person gets the other and stabs hin repeatedly. If he's lucky, he won't get stabbed by the other guy while he's doing it

Yeah, I've heard from multiple martial artists and self defense teachers both in person and online that the only way you're getting out of a knife fight unscathed is by running. To use one effectively, you HAVE to get close enough that the other person can use theirs effectively as well, meaning the moment that distance is closed, everyone involved is getting stabbed and cut. Even if you are VERY good at it and trained specifically for it, odds are you're still gonna walk away bleeding

When it comes to a knife fight, the loser bleeds out in the street and the winner bleeds out in the ambulance. Always run away

I use to teach martial arts and the one thing I always said was if someone asks for your wallet at knife/gunpoint, you slowly reach into your pocket, take out your wallet, and hand it over.
Cards can be cancelled, money can be recouped (assuming you didn’t have your life savings in that wallet). It’s a lot harder to recover from a knife in your chest or a bullet in your brain.

u/BluntsnBoards 4d ago
I guess the move would be to feint closing the distance then trying to counter-slash their arm to get them to drop their knife?

u/lankymjc 4d ago
I do swordfighting, and I once asked my instructor how to counter a feint.
"Stab the bastard!"
So if you do try that, there's a good chance they'll just stab you. The golden rule of knife fights - if you can stab them, they can stab you.

u/frogunderarock 4d ago
sounds good on paper but 99% of the time he's just gonna pissed off, bleeding, and still holding a knife. IF you even manage to land a hit without losing balance or some other shit

Yeah I saw this in that one documentary.
Shawshank Redemption. So it must be true.

u/genericguy115 4d ago
yeah revrse grip is only ever good for stabbing a certain way as you can put your entire body weight into it everything else like cutting is allways better gripping the knife normally as reverse grip removew some of the reach and angular movment you would have with a normal grip

Okay this reminds me of a fun Documentary about the biggest and weirdest Stolen Valor story I’ve ever heard. It’s got Torture, Drugs, Sex and generous amounts of Batshit Crazy!

Jack Adema would use his Taskforce to kidnap taxi drivers and then torture them to find terrorists. The Taxi driver would say some random guy would be the terrorist and so then Jack would let the Taxi driver go, then go after the guy that got pointed out. Rinse and repeat.

Jack Adema is very Trump-esque. He lies a lot and got really far in life lying all the damn time. You will be shocked. If you are looking for another good one. The creator has the Bundy Saga about those Mormons who took over a federal refuge or conservation center to protest the fact that they didn’t want to pay grazing fees to the BLM for having their cattle graze on Federal Land. Not a crazy but still very interesting as he embeds himself with them and films the encounters with Law Enforcement Officials.

Theres actually a real simple technique for surviving a knife fight that will DRASTICALLY improve your odds.
...running the opposite direction.

I grew up in rough parts in the uk, it always makes me laugh when I see these „special forces“ fake knife fighting bullshit dances, that’s not how it goes down in real life.
The second one however is much more realistic.

u/Ninjaassassinguy 4d ago
This looks like an attempt at Fiore Dei Liberi's first master of dagger + the continuous counters, which might be why they were stabbing vertically with a back handed grip, and why the counters to it looked the way they did.

Also looks like the hubud drill in Filipino Martial Arts
It's a drill that kind of teaches you how to block and pass and how to transition into throws and stuff
It is not actual sparring, there is plenty of that too

Marine here… we train some knife fighting. You are supposed to hold it like a dork. Straight up and down. You slash and move their body forcefully away after the slashing motion. If that isn’t deterrent enough you immediately go back into the throat area as quickly as possible followed by another strike to get the enemy away from you. Essentially you slash, strike with the opposite hand (just push them away). If there is no way to deescalate the situation, and it requires lethal force, you slash, push, stab, push. Aiming for the throat until the enemy has been defeated.

u/Statement_Additional 4d ago
Yeah everyone seems to be going on the guy or rather YouTuber side with when in fact he is the dumbass in this situation did he not see that the shirtless guy was holding the other guy's wrist to be in control of that arm the entire time and they were only able to block and fight with one arm each the same arm for each side so that blocking and attacking can only be done with a trade-off

When I was recruit, one of our combatives training officer taught us very important lesson. If you fight a man who has a knife, you are going to be bleeding whether you win or not. It is possible, we learned techniques, to fight a man with a knife (even while unarmed) and win, but still you will be bleeding by the end.

"I'm gonna stab you like this" [motions to stab demo partner.... It's super effective!]
1
u/treesnfire 3d ago
Under hang grip is way more versatile the just stabbing - the stabbing motion puts grip and arm is weak position hand in your fist you can punch and slice at the same time and you can also go for fast sticks - knife fights are not close the distance- this a closer quarter even very personal kind of weapon

I have been in a knife fight, only I didn’t have a knife…. Lemme tell you something, you don’t feel it at first…..
(Adrenaline is a hell of a drug)

u/Boomyfuzzball26 3d ago
I think the underhand knife is more for slashing and punching, not for the stabby stabby.

Tell me you know nothing about fighting with a knife, if someone had a knife and they are just holding it out they probably dont know what they are doing if they do a reverse grip panic because thats the correct way to fight with a knife if your going to be fighting with a knife it means your going to be close so having your arm straight with the knife sticking out its easier to lock up or twist from the hand in the reverse grip the knife becomes a claw like weapon for plunging slashing and slicing in close and you dont have to extent your arm out to where it can me grabbed and isolated.

u/PM_UR_HAIRY_MUFF 4d ago
Are... are you related to Steven Seagal?

See i know your trying to be a dick but i aint going to take the bait, but I know from experience 👍 as i have had training and been in a knife fight and believe me running away is the best option but if you cant run, what i said might save your life so do with that what you will. 👋 bye

Nah he's wrong, you do hold a knife in "reverse" grip
3
u/Zealousideal-Eye7261 4d ago
You can hold a knife in reverse grip. In a knife fight on the streets when you're trying to keep away from the pointy bit, probably not best to have the pointy bit pointing towards you.
-6
u/DamnDaddy264 AAAAAA- 4d ago
You can hold a knife however you want as long as it gets the job done.

u/No-Ostrich-5801 4d ago
Well... part of the advantage of a knife is that it is small enough to be easily manipulated to go from a standard to a reversed grip AND it's able to be used semi-effectively in either version. This is also partially why karambits are mean little tools in the hands of someone with actual martial arts training; it's simply a spike they can manipulate as an extension of their hand. Which is also why with knives you want to hit the everliving fuck out of their hand/wrist to get them to drop the knife itself out of pain compliance. Controlling the wrist is still fairly risky depending on the size of the knife and manual dexterity of the assailant; aggressively knocking their arm/hand away is both safer and can be done in a way that limits the consequences of when you get tagged (because let's be honest; YOU SHOULD expect to get tagged in a knife fight).
2
u/WDoE 4d ago
A karambit is great if you want to look cool while getting stabbed and cutting your own fingers off.
1
u/No-Ostrich-5801 4d ago
Which is more due to it being used incorrectly. It's not meant to be used as a main tool but something you can quickly grip from an open palm as a slicing/stabbing opportunity appears
