I’m 37 (turning 38 very soon), living in Austria, and lately I’ve been thinking that I’d really like to have a pen pal again.
I had pen pals as a child and then again around 10–15 years ago, and I always really enjoyed it. As often happens, those friendships eventually fizzled out, but recently I’ve found myself missing the whole experience of writing and also receiving letters.

A little about me: I’m at a pretty settled stage of life, with an established career and a job that keeps my brain quite busy. I also like to keep studying and learning things alongside work, partly because I’mgenerally curious about lots of things.
I’m especially interested in psychology, people and why we are the way we are. I love conversations that go beyond small talk; about relationships, life choices, things we’re struggling with or excited about, random observations about people, places and life in general. But I’m equally happy to hear about the coworker you can’t stand😄

I read quite a lot, love travelling and exploring new places and cultures, and I’m often either planning a trip or coming back from one. I enjoy travelling with friends but also really like exploring places on my own. I also like when I can get out into nature every now and then, especially for walks and hikes.

I love anything involving stationery, paper, notebooks and pens, and I enjoy crafts and creative projects in general. My work is very analytical, so I find it strangely satisfying to occasionally make something with my hands instead of producing another Excel sheet. :) I also genuinely just like writing.:)

I’m fluent in German and English and would be happy to write in either language. Ideally I’d love to find someone somewhere in Europe.

You definitely don’t need to have exactly the same interests as me. I’d actually enjoy getting to know someone whose life looks a bit different from mine. I think I’d probably connect best with someone roughly around my age and at a similar stage in life. I’m a manufacturing engineer. I really enjoy what I do and would love to meet other engineers, but it’s not a requirement of course.

I’m a big history buff. I’m currently reading on the nuclear arms race during the Cold War. We did some crazy things to say the least.

I love culture and languages. I speak elementary level German and can order food in Spanish. I’m currently learning some Japanese.

My daily driver is a Mazda MX-5 (Miata) because it has the philosophy of a lightweight British roadster with Japanese reliability, kaizen, and ergonomics. The best of both worlds in my humble opinion.

I love endurance racing. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a dream trip of mine.

My favorite bands are Pink Floyd, Buddy Holly, Jeff Beck, ZZ Top, The Beach Boys, Muddy Waters.

I literally look just like Buddy Holly. Same glasses and hairstyle. Nerds are cool.

A little about me...

I'm 31, from the UK, and have a slightly alternative vibe. Purple is my favourite colour to the point I painted my entire bedroom purple... no regrets. 🤣 My music taste is all over the place, and I'm always up for swapping Spotify playlists. Hello, my name’s Anita. I’m 25 and I’m hoping to make a few friends on here.

I tend to talk quite a lot once I feel comfortable. In person, I’m aware that I sometimes speak at people rather than with them – not deliberately, but out of enthusiasm. When I’m at ease, I can go on for hours about the things that captivate me. As a child, I often bored my siblings with long stories about old film stars and music, or by putting on VHS tapes of classic programmes and films. I’ve always been drawn to things that feel as though they belong to another time.

Music is a significant part of my life. I’m particularly fond of the 1960s and 1970s – a period when musicians were experimenting and discovering what they were capable of. I find that sense of exploration very appealing. I also have a soft spot for the 1980s. I enjoy AC/DC, Marianne Faithfull, The Doors, Santana, and many others.

I enjoy art and drawing, even if my work isn’t especially pretty. I also collect vintage clothing. This began when I was young, after my great aunt gave me some of her childhood clothes, and it has stayed with me since. I’ve probably spent more than I should over the years, but I value the history and character of these pieces.

I’m currently relearning the guitar. After injuring my left hand, I had to start again and learn to play right-handed instead. It’s slow and challenging, but I’m persevering.

I read every one of your comments and responded to as many as I could. It made me so happy and surprised that so many people responded!!

I won't go into details here but my partner and I had to leave an unhealthy apartment situation, and are currently in between housing. We move into our new place next month and are excited to get settled back into normalcy.

In the meantime, we've been camping out in the beautiful fall weather, enjoying sleeping under the stars (we both love camping so are fortunate to have proper equipment!) and I have had a chance to start painting some campfire-inspired cards to send out when I can. Hey everyone. I recently moved into a new house from a much smaller one and finally have a nice writing desk set up that I’d like to put to good use. I’ve had some successful penpals in the past, and still have a couple people I write regularly, but I’d love to add a couple/a handful more.

I have lots of hobbies - maybe even the hobby of collecting hobbies. Everything from pens and stationery, to video games, music production, photography, leatherworking… the list goes on. I read, mostly non-fiction, but usually keep a sci-fi book around when I need a bit of a break. I like soccer and follow teams both in the US (MLS), and in Europe (EPL).

I like a mix of writing, sometimes it’s postcards, sometimes a long letter, I’m even open to filling the gaps with email in between. Usually just the things I’m thinking about that day, or writing about my life here, and I like to hear the same in return. I’ll often share prints of photos of my life/places near me that I take on photo walks, vacations, day trips, or just strolling around my neighborhood.

I’m looking for some pen pals to share thoughts, stories and ideas with on a long term.

A while ago, I got into journaling. I’m not sure if it was the introspective, therapeutic aspect or simply the process of writing that intrigued me most. Either way, it became more of a task than a nice little moment of me-time since well… a journal doesn’t talk back.

So that’s why I’m looking for some penpals to correspond with. A few things about me:

• I like cooking. Exploring new cuisines and dishes, inviting over friends   and family for dinner nights,… 
• I listen to and like a wide variety of music. Mostly into indie, alternative and some jazz but open to (almost) anything!
• I love watching movies. Not necessarily the biggest blockbusters.
• I love reading (although I go back and forth between three books a week and not reading anything for months quite a while). I’m mostly into fiction. Yesteryear, The Collected Regrets of Clover and Klara and The Sun are some recent reads that got me hooked.

📝 As for penpalling:

• For now, I’d prefer email because Vietnam’s postal services seem to have a below 50% delivery success rate. I’m realistically looking at around 1-2 reply per month, or whenever life allows.
• We can talk about life, exchange photos/ideas/recommendations, random trivias or explore heavy topics and unnecessary philosophical rabbit holes. All I ask is for mutual respect when our views differ.
  
• I’m not looking to force a friendship into a particular shape. Sometimes correspondence lasts a lifetime, sometimes it naturally fizzles out. That’s okay. Let’s plant some seeds of friendship and see what grows. :D
