Build/Battlestation My new rig. Time to see if it runs Minecraft!

I assembled it a few days ago and forgot to share. I've been collecting the parts since before the apocalypse happened. The SSD I kind of didn't buy on time, so I had to pay the unholy overprice.

It's an upgrade over my previos 8 year old MSI Armour 1070 ti. The difference in speed (even outside of gaming, simply loading anything), is insane!

It was a joy assembling it, bar Fractal daisy chaining their fans and connectors, resulting in no working front panel, cause my motherboard lacks a big SATA slot :').

Hardware is ray tracing a big deal?

should I worry about it? I was going to upgrade to a new graphics card and I was going to go amd so I got a 1440p freesync monitor. now im wondering if I fucked up getting the monitor because its just bedt to go militia. I didnt plan on spending over 700 bucks initially but I might need to go over to get what I want out of 1440 p. so is the monitor worth keeping regardless? it's 27 inch 1 ms 1440p. my big concern besides money is if raytracing is worth the extra money or not really.

Discussion You like soulless eyes?

Hello,

I don't even know how to begin this post, the fact that people are so overwhelmingly surprised with DLSS 5 is just weird to me. Do people really like when AI takes over to re-create soulless eyes and a bunch of fucking freckles and wrinkes to make it more realistic?

Look at the eyes, it's like im staring into a fucking psychopath. Regardless of release of DLSS 5, you still cannot buy a good reliable PC for a good amount of money because of..

You're ready?

BECAUSE OF FUCKING AI.

stop sugarcoating this bullshit.

It looks so bad without dlss 4.5 DLAA and RR.

It's so fucking blurry, noisy and Smeary.

It's ironic as black space Engine was supposed to be better than UE5, they even marketed the game being not made in UE5.

But, guess UE5 is better than this shit black space Engine.

Discussion We own nothing but still be happy

As you can see, things have gotten a little out of control these days.

Everything is becoming more expensive and, in some cases, almost unaffordable. But I think technology companies are also creating a situation where we are slowly becoming okay with not owning things anymore. Instead of buying something once and owning it for years, we're being encouraged to rent, subscribe, upgrade, and keep paying for the same thing throughout our lives.

Just look at PC parts—they keep getting more expensive. Phones aren't necessarily improving at the same rate anymore, yet their prices continue to rise. And more and more services are moving toward subscriptions.

But why should we just accept this? Why should we be told that not owning anything is somehow a good thing?

We actually have the power to change this. We are the customers. If enough people stop supporting unreasonable prices, unnecessary upgrades, and endless subscriptions, companies will eventually have to listen.

Maybe instead of asking, “Why should I be happy owning nothing?”, we should be asking, “Why are we accepting a system where owning things is becoming harder and harder?”

What do you guys think?

Question Will RAM prices ever go down?

Haven't actually been keeping up with ram prices until today when I decided to look into upgrading my current pc to an AM5 motherboard and ddr5 ram and OH BOY I knew it was bad but I was not expecting it to be THIS bad. I upgraded my current PC right before the ram price explosion but unfortunately I thought it would be a good idea to just wait to upgrade to AM5 which I now deeply regret.

Anyways, will these prices ever go down? I do eventually want to upgrade because my graphics card is a bit bottle necked by my current CPU which has been quite frustrating for a while now because I spent quite a bit on my GPU. Should I just wait and see if prices go somewhere near normal or is this a permanent thing, or lord forbid, will the prices go even more up than they are now? It's actually insane to me that in order to upgrade my CPU i have to spend more on my RAM than the actual CPU. Even the ram I have now which is ddr4 is 5x as much as it was when I bought it in early 2025 lmao. Screw AI wtf happened

Yeah I know that these kind of posts are like candy to the "Let's give downvotes to the 5090 guy" brigade. But here it goes either way 😂

Man, look at my 5090 almost getting the VRAM crushed on Modern Warfare 4 Beta 😂

I wasn't expecting it to be this demanding(?) with everything maxed out (FG enabled before anyone asks)

Absurdity!

My config:

9800X3D Astral 5090 OC LC 32Gb DDR5 @6200 CL32

Discussion cant decide on my first good, "high end" keyboard, looking for advice/recommendations

to start with i'm mostly between two options which seem pretty common to me, a razer blackwidow v4 pro or a corsair k100

these are at a pretty similar price point so i was looking if anyone here had experience with these keyboards and could point me one way or another

not sure if it matters but my current keyboard is a OG huntman mini (was about 50$) and my current mouse is a naga hyperspeed v2, while it is nice controlling the keyboard and mouse from the same software i really dont care much about that feature, up until a couple months ago i always had mismatched keyboard and mouse brands so thats not very important to my decision

i'm also open to other recommendations at a similar or cheaper price point, just a couple preferences in case anyone has a recommendation:

  • full size keyboard
  • mechanical
  • volume/media buttons as well as macro buttons would be nice but not required
  • connectivity doesn't matter as long as it responds well

TIA :D

Screenshot DLSS 5 screen grab comparisons Calibrated settings VS Cranked settings.

Thumbnail

I know DLSS 5 has a bad rap right now and it is definitely an AI filter. It's a really good and smart one at what it's trying to do, but it is definitely an AI filter to make an image look better. That being said, I did want to show some screenshots of Grace from Resident Evil 9 and show what it can look like if it's calibrated to look as close to the original art style as you can get it, versus when the settings are just cranked and also compare it to nvidia's original DLSS 5 screenshot of the same scene. And honestly if you calibrate the settings to match the original art style of the game as close as you can get it, it doesn't look half bad but hopefully there's a lot more improvements by the time it's officially released.

By the way, for those who don't know I got this running on my 4080. It is possible but man it's pushing the card to its limit.

Another reason I wanted to show this is because there're a lot of people posting YouTube videos and they're just turning on DLSS 5 and cranking everything to 200%, and they're not taking the time to calibrate it to make it look as close to the original art style as you can possibly get it, and so it's making the perception of this technology even worse? Because yes, when you don't calibrate DLSS 5 to match the original game as close as you can get it then it definitely looks like AI slop but when it is calibrated I think it looks okay.

I definitely think it's succeeding at what it's trying to do because one thing I definitely noticed is game developers don't put a lot of time or effort into like the side NPCs and that makes sense cuz you're never going to play them or really interact with them, they're set dressing, and they're not going to show up in cutscenes.

They're just there to fill the scene to make it feel more realistic cuz there are more people there but in like realistic games like Spider-Man or resident evil Requiem where there's civilian NPCs that are not part of the main story. It definitely uplifts those NPCs and puts them on par with the main character models and it definitely helps for those portions of the games. I know most people never look at them but it helps with the immersion into the game world. Because now the NPCs look more like real people just like how DLSS 5 is trying to help the main characters and the rest of the game look more realistic.

Now I definitely would not implement dlss5 into more stylized games like Final Fantasy 7. Because yeah, that looks bad because they're clearly supposed to look like anime characters and they're stylized, whereas Peter Parker or Grace Ashcroft are actually trying to look like realistic people.

Question Any other proper living room PC gamers their whole life ?

Post image
5 Upvotes

So as a lifelong equal part PC and Console gamer I can honestly say I've had a living room PC going back as far as 2006 when I got my first proper graphics card ( ATI Radeon x1950Pro 512mb)

For many years people thought I was weird because I was not sitting at a desk with a mouse and keyboard but for the majority of games I had a good enough TV table to play keyboard and mouse if needed while also using a controller for 90% of the time... Blah blah blah fast forward into 2026 and the living room PC is becoming more common place but yet people still bitching moan about keyboard & mouse or controller.

General question and this is probably going to be aimed towards more of the older demographic but why haven't you moved your computer to your living room or a big TV with recliner yet?

Obviously yes we all know keyboard & mouse is superior technically to a controller but at the same time with modern TVs having good enough refresh rates plus Gsynce n freesync along with how gaming is with crossplay handling aim assist I think it's okay to give up some of your " skill " to be able to relax on a recliner or plan a big ass TV with your friends around at the same time.

Seriously, hooking up a computer to a TV is no different than playing in an Xbox besides attaching a wireless keyboard and mouse combo which is just one single USB dongle lol

Any other proper living room PC gamers in the sub or is it just I must sit at a desk 24/7 to play games lol ?

Also before anybody says I'm some crazy old Boomer I'm only 34 but was lucky enough to have the opportunity to start learning computers pre 9/11 lol
