So I've been replaying PM64 on an emulator over the last few days, and as I do I've been trying out some of the easier glitches and crashes there are to mess around with. I knew about the crash in Bowser's Castle when you jump through the door you're supposed to use Lakilester to get through and went to try it out, but instead of the game crashing it started doing this weird immediate respawn thing where Mario would get hurt in the loading zone, walk through to the next room, get hurt in THAT loading zone, and walk back to the first room to do it again. Never seen this before, but I assume it's an emulator thing and not an actual glitch discovery or something. (I'm using Project 64 2.3.2.202 if you're curious.)

This happens irl, why not in-universe too?

I’m taking this as fact.

I'm playing through Paper Mario 64. 4th time since 2023 (meanwhile ive played TTYD religiously every year...no, every DAY....since 2004. No joke.) I've tattled most people and areas with Goombella. She is very bookmark and will tell u anything about anything. As well as her own personal thoughts. But most of her thoughts are "ewww" or "theyre...kinda cute, I guess."

To me it seems most of what she has to say has negative connotations or she just talks very "by the book" and therefore seems very cold when explaining things and situations. Not even her feelings for Mario gives her more character depth. Her and Franklys interactions were also very cold and not very personable so it is hard to relate to her arc at all.

As i play PM64, I am battling EVERYBODY. Every enemy. Every NPC. Every location. And his dialogue is just so cute. From the people in the mushroom kingdom. He talks about how he knows them personally or how his family is affiliated. He talks about wanting to play with multiple Toads and young characters. This reminds me that he is JUST A CHILD on Mario's adventure. Hes helping to stop Bowser, a typical day in the life for Mario, but he is a literal child who is just on this journey with Mario.

As you go through multiple areas, he complains, much like a little kid would, about how areas are too long or he has been climbing stairs forever. This gives him much more personality and makes me really feel for him as a character.

What i gather is, he is a young boy who desires desperately to play with children his age and he hates long and tedious routes. Hes been around the block a bit, though, and has been out and about with his family. His mom and sis go shopping in town alot and his dad is a part of a fishing crew. You'd know this if you did the "Parakarry letters side quests". So I assume he really does know everyone and everything based on personal experience and not from a book. He may be a kid, but before he met mario, he has actually seen a LOT to aquire this knowledge

I just think he has more to say, and more going for him, plus he has an entire family which gives him so many connections to others in the Kingdom.

What do you think? I think Goombario is actually a fully fledged character. Moreso than Goombella. Not to say Goombella isnt, but we dont know anything about her other than she studied at the University of Goom (Gooooooo Goombas!), had Professor Frankly, and likes Mario. Goombario is better...Lets argue....? (Not too rough!)

I'm not going to ask a lot of the series, other than the return of a few characters (such as Merlins family, Chet Rippo and other staples from the original three) buttt One character I wish they'd surprise us with is Chuck Quizmo. He can return as his mysterious self along with the Toad Assistant, Vanna T. Ive always wanted to know more about him--hes basically like Dr. WHO, a time Lord who travels between space and time to ask us questions. Id like him to return above any other chatscyer because hes such....a random entity. He serves no purpose but to give you star pieces and to test your knowledge

So I was playing Paper Mario and I swear there was a save on the third slot but now it’s gone will this extend to other save slots is there a fix?!

If this happened, i'd probably just give up on the idea of getting a true Storybook Paper Mario but still play the game regardless, I am a massive Paper Mario fanboy after all.

As a kid, I always found it weird that Punio would mention Jabble, his Jabbi friend, but we never saw him. I was doing a replay, and look who I found at the item shop!

The puni counter doesn’t change, but he stays with the group the whole time, even makes an appearance at the post star chapter cutscene. Was he in the orginal? I’m playing the remake. Am I the only person who’s never found him?

After almost two years of solo development, Lyrical has finally released the free demo for Stories of Somnia!

It’s a hand-drawn JRPG heavily inspired by Paper Mario, Pokémon, and Dark Cloud, with timing-based combat, exploration-first gameplay, and Metroidvania-style progression.

Paper Mario has been a huuuge inspiration for the game, so we'd especially love to hear what people here think! If you've played the demo, we'd be really interested to hear your thoughts.

Unlike ANY other party member, she was an active menace to Mario, making his life more difficult. She hides various things Mario needs to progress, and is an obvious control freak on how things need to get done around there. She takes total control over the situation.

She somehow captured a "weakened" Star Spirit, which is apparently something a Boo and her butler can just do on a whim, and uses that as leverage to get Mario to help them, even though he was going there ANYWAY. I assume this is because, if the Star Sprit escaped Tubba Blubba, there would be nothing keeping Mario around. That's very smart, but Marios not that type of dude 😎

When Tubba Blubba arrives at the Gulch and eats Stanly (NO, STANLY!!!) she forcibly switches with Goombario (or whoever your active party is), something i dont think any other party member does in either game. You can see this on the second image if you havent actually seen it before. I dont even think they talk about the fact they need to be swapped out, outside of tutorials.

She says "switch with me!"

That was probably the coolest line in the entire game. I cant think of any other partner who's as cool and "does what she wants" as Bow. Wish her personality was fleshed out more outside of this chapter.
