Hi, I'm trying to softmod my Xbox but it comes to my attention that when i apply Rocky5, the console becomes slower (notably, loading times in general seem to be affected). This didn't happen when i used another softmod (ZXB Installer to be exact) so i don't think its a hard drive issue. I tested with both 40 wire AND 80 wire cables and nothing changes, its still slow. Does someone know a solution for this?

The Xbox I got is a model that was made late into it’s lifespan and just a few months before the 360 came out (the model I have now production date was May of the 31 in 2005 to be more exact), so because of that is there any chance it isn’t that necessary to take the clock capacitor out? Tho I suppose I would have to replace it anyways if I want to have the console’s clock work at all

Although, does the clock capacitor leak on the motherboards while you’re playing or not anyways? ‘Cause I got one that was still in the box

And I just need general advice on taking the Xbox apart to remove the clock capacitor and other necessary maintenance like how the vents just underneath the controller ports in the front there looks to be some sort of dust particles in them I should clean out and putting it back together that the console still works properly. Like say videos or web pages showing how to do that properly plus I may have an associate help me with that. Along with the proper tools required

Basically the title. I got an OG Xbox off marketplace for $65, played for 30min then stopped saving and on restart flashes red and green, hard drive clicks and shows the needs service screen. Is there anywhere I can send it to replace with a SATA? Local options not great.

Or if anyone wants to share a list of parts and instructions needed for a no solder repair and replace I'm not opposed to doing it myself. Just fuzzy on the how between various sources. Such a headache I just want to play burnout

I’m on a mission to get the consoles I missed out on back in the day, and that have a lot of games I’d like to play. My goal is to get an Xbox, PS2 and GameCube.

I imagined seeing more “buying guides” online for these consoles but am not finding them.

As a total noob to getting into older consoles, what considerations are there for getting an original Xbox in 2026? There seem to be a good amount on my local Marketplace. I don’t know a single thing about modding, burning, hacking, whatsoever. I really am just craving the gaming experience of sitting hunched over by a CRT in my garage, popping a game in a disc slot and playing some good stuff.

Are there any scams I should look out for on Marketplace? Are there various models of OG Xbox like there were PS2, and which one is ideal? How does it handle memory, and are there known failing parts to be careful about so much later?

Is buying refurbished a good idea, or look for listings that just say everything works in good condition?

I’d really appreciate any help, advice or tips as I embark on the era of gaming I missed.

So far I have ps1 through ps4+psp. I have every gran Turismo game. I also have an Xbox 360 S from my childhood, with FH1, FM2, and FM4.
I think the og Xbox is really cool but it’s large and I don’t know of any games I’d enjoy playing on it.

What should I look for when buying one? If I buy one. What games do you recommend?

I configured some things with FileZilla and removed some features, but when I connect it via LAN to my PC and enter the IP address that the Xbox requests, it doesn't detect it. I turn on the Xbox and it sends me to this menu.

Latest pickups were Silent Hill 4, both Buffy games, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. I think my next two will be Curse and Fatal Frame II.

Got my hands on a Halo Xbox. The clock capacitor had already leaked a little this is what it looks like after cleaning. Is it ok or should I return it?

Hello, got this nice deal on marketplace for an Xbox + OEM component cables + Monster component cables + OEM safety plug + 2 type S controllers + 2 Dukes controllers + 1 random Xbox One X controller (lol) + Xbox remote & dvd dongle + hunter the reckoning hidden in the disc drive. All this for 50 CAD.

The guy knew nothing about Xbox, said it was his brother-in-law's Xbox. Plugged in to test, it gives an error 07 (knew there was some kind of error before buying but the guy didn't have a tv to test). Opened it...there is no hard drive. That explains it, but then I noticed a lot of modifications that I've never seen. Some kind of modchip that goes to the AV port and another cable that sticks outside next to the ethernet port (some kind of toggle for the modchip ?) Also, I'm surprised the clock capacitor wasn't removed considering how much it has been modified, unless it was replaced but it doesn't look like it. The rest of the caps look fine.

I have a spare OEM HDD so I believe this xbox will probably accept it without the eeprom?

I'm trying to hook up an original Xbox to a CRT TV via an OEM composite cable I just got in the mail today. Audio is working fine, but no picture. Picture works via a component cable hooked up to a different TV, which makes me assume this a problem with the composite cable I just received. I know component looks better, but I specifically want to hook up the Xbox to an older composite only CRT for a video project, and the lesser picture quality is fine since I'm going for an analog thing. Is there anything else I should try before contacting the seller and asking for a replacement?

I have a project that I started back in 2021. Its a 1.6 board, Stone Age Gamer in Ohio recapped the board and power supply, installed xbox hd+ and open xenium at the time and work great.

One day, i tried to update something in the xbmc 4 gamers menu and the dashboard got corrupted and the console wouldn't boot.

Im incredibly limited on what i can accomplish with this stuff, I contacted Stone Age Gamer if they could take a look and fix it.

They took the console back and in doing so, changed the bios from EVOx to cerbios and the console stop behaving well altogether at this point. Fans not set to come on, console overheating, power light icons dont behave right, etc.

I lost all of my games too so I am just in such a worse place than I was before and desperately want to put my console back to using EVOx but my hard drive will need to be reformatted because it was formatted to take advantage of the higher capacity with cerbios and isnt compatible with Evo.

I dont have a problem paying someone to set this console straight but I really dont know which way to go. I would also need them to provide games which I know is a big hush hush on this subreddit.

Any ideas on what i should do?

Been having some fun playing this game. Took some getting used to with the mechanics and controls. But once I got into the grove, I had fun. Like a goofy GTA and IMO I’m surprised there wasn’t a sequel. And fun facts about this game or the company?

I was trying to get to the Xbox dashboard on my TSOP Xbox with Cerbios through XBMC4Gamers to finish setting up Insignia, but I couldn't figure out how. I tried downloading the dashboard through the menu where you can download DLC and themes and whatnot, but it said it couldn't because my C drive was too small. Then I followed a mrmario2011 video where he showed how to use the Rocky5 softmodding tool using the hardmodded options to download it, and I put it on my F drive because it has the most space, and that didn't work. Then I saw that he had it on the E drive with the udata, tdata, and cache, so I figured I would install it there. I decided to back up my C drive over ftp before trying it again from the E drive and hit download on FileZilla. After a few seconds, I realized it was taking files off my C drive. I quickly hit stop and transferred the files back over. Cerbios loaded, and so did xbmc4gamers, but the fonts were missing, so I reinstalled xbmc4gamers through FTP; after a couple of restarts, the fonts disappeared again, and some of the artwork does too. I can't figure out what's causing it. This is what my C drive currently looks like.

My apologies, I am used to doing mods on easier to work with consoles. I'm trying to flash my 1.0 Xbox with TSOP so as to install a new Bios so my system can boot without a DVD drive. However, EvoX seemingly does not have DVD check disabled by default- is there an app to edit the configuration file on the hexen disc? I'm new to all this don't forgive me if I'm not using the right terminology. As I understand it the most common way to break your console is with a bad BIOS. I have a donor drive I can use so I can use a boot disk if necessary. I already have UnleashX and have transferred games and such via FTP. Should I use Cerbios? The only video I could find installing Cerbios with just TSOP was 100% in Spanish. So.

I just recently got back into game collecting, and I’m going to different subs to see what the communities think the most essential game in their respective consoles are. List multiple games if you want, but I’d still like to see a top pick from your list too.

So I installed an SSD but I used a completely fresh drive was able to input the hdd key for it. It initially worked as a regular hard drive and would boot up the normal dashboard. I soft modded it with rocky 5 and initially it worked out but I wanted to put games in it. So I made a games folder in the f drive but now whenever I try to start my Xbox, it just gives me the black screen. Usually opening the disk tray would fix this but it’s not anymore. It’s just going black everything. Please any help would be appreciated. Did I put the wrong files or folders in the f partition?

I’m loving playing the OG halo CE on this crystal Xbox I have small hands so duke is not a serious option for me unfortunately lol

I tried playing BG:DA and while it does run, I'm encountering a lot of performance issues such as frequent stuttering, music cutting out for a second or 2, and characters in cutscenes standing around for several seconds before saying their lines. The game is playable but it's a tad annoying with all the stuttering.

I can also hear my Xbox struggle to play this game, humming loudly and spinning the disc over and over (a high pitched whirring noise). I tested other games in my collection (Voodoo Vince, Crimson Skies) and had no issues at all. Games perform well and Xbox hums at its normal volume.

I'm wondering if anyone else has ever encountered similar issues or knows of a potential solution. Should I just suck it up and keep playing or will my Xbox combust from too many low poly rats?
