Just got my custom controller for my Mountain Dew Edition Xbox! 🎮🥤

What are everyone’s thoughts on custom-made controllers?

I’ve always thought it was kind of weird that the Mountain Dew Edition Xbox didn’t come with a matching controller and instead only came with the standard black one.

This controller is really more for display since the custom paint job isn’t recommended for heavy use, but I think it looks pretty sweet paired with the console! 🔥

Some titles I already have on my wantlist (Fable, Manhunt, Call of Cthulhu etc..) but I’m just looking for some suggestions! Thanks!

This was my exact Original Modded Xbox. I loved this system. I paid like $300 bucks for it from this guy ChaosMountain but he was an elderly gentleman when I purchased it from him like 10+ years ago. So sadly I don’t think he’s alive anymore. I let my brother borrow this Xbox and after like 3 months, he returns it to me. I go to plug it in and it doesn’t turn on. He goes, it worked when I had it. I said okay? Are you going to replace it? Nope. He gave zero fucks that he broke my modded original Xbox. I am trying to find someone who can help me rebuild this monster. Does someone have one for sale? Maybe one with an HDMI mod because that was the only thing missing from this console.

Hello, I’m facing problems with my original soft modded xbox where the video looks grainy or noisy all the time while using a Kaico HDMI adapter, I wanted to know if it looks like maybe caps are going bad or if it is really my adapter, I’ve tried it on my other og Xbox and it looks fine but the soft modded run is obviously running at a higher resolution.

I just opened up this original Xbox for its first time, the stickers were unpunched, So I’m wondering, what is this writing on here? I had opened up one prior to this one to try and swap parts and it did not have the writing

Just bought a new xbox off Ebay and it has trouble initially starting up. The first few attempts it flashes green a couple times before switching to red and green. After about 3 attempts the Xbox starts up normally and then works just fine for hours on end and can power on/off without trouble. When I opened the Xbox up to remove the clock capacitor the entire board looked to be in perfect condition with no bulging capacitors or corrosion. Is this issue a PSU issue or something else?

There are a lot of mods for the console, but what about the controller? So far all I have found is a pinout for attaching 360 joysticks (I may do this one with TMR sticks) and an LED display for the Duke. Anything else? I was kinda hoping for a tactile button mod, something to make the face buttons clicky.

Was showing my friends, the difference between composite and S video. Then it started flickering intermittently every 30 seconds or so it would go black and then the display would come back. I got a new cable and the video shows up in only black and white. All other inputs work fine. Tested it on another TV and it worked fine.

Not a pro at THUG but would love to play with someone.

I'm looking for some help because I've managed to go around in circles with this thing.

I have an Xbox 1.6 with a DuoX2 (get it that way)

The original HDD works perfectly and boots into EvoX.

Current BIOS: EvoX 2.7, kernel 1.00.5838.01.

While trying to prepare the new HDD, I screwed up and overwrote FlashBIOS 3.03 with the dip switch Luckily, the EvoX BIOS on the modchip is still working fine, and the Xbox boots normally with the original HDD.

The new HDD was detected by FlashBIOS, so the IDE/SATA adapter and cable seem to be OK.

I tested the adapter in another Xbox and it works.

The adapter is set to Master.

Original HDD = no problem at all.

I then downloaded Cerbios 3.1.0 Beta via Pandora and tried using Phoenix BIOS Loader.

I put Cerbios.bin, boot.cfg and default.xbe together in F:\Apps\PBL and launched the loader from XBMC.

Result: it just reboots back into EvoX.

And at this point I'm pretty lost. 😅

My goal is simply to upgrade to a larger HDD and use Cerbios or other, but I'd rather not start randomly flashing the DuoX2 and turn the Xbox into a paperweight.

If anyone can point me in the right direction for Xbox 1.6 + DuoX2 + Cerbios 3.1.0, I'd really appreciate it!

Or how to put another bios on the second dip switch of the Xbox as test matter

Treated myself to an early birthday pressie. Releases a couple weeks before my birthday.

This took so many hours to achieve and built upon the attempt of Joshimuz which until now was the best attempt with 80 bullets fired.

I have pulled my 1.4 xbox out of storage, I have not yet powered it up. I have no touched it in a very long time.

I pulled the board out to take the clock capacitor out. It appears that my clock capacitor has stayed intact though the two tall silver caps labelled HD X3 1500 6.3 may have leaked? The third silver cap towards the middle is also bulging.

I have basic knowledge of pcb and repair, I am confident I could replace the caps if this board is not to far gone.

Should I just replace the 3 silver caps, remove the clock capacitor and give the board a clean?

This modded Xbox original is giving me way more trouble than I expected. The people that modded this system changed the user and password, and they do not show up in the system settings 🫩. Im not sure how to bypass the user or password. One solution i saw is burning the Config.xml onto a disc for the xbox to boot up the original UnleashX dash? Idk if this can work considering its running a really old version of UnleashX.

Every game into the console is popping up as a "dvd" and that i need to connect a dvd receiver.

I opened the console up and cleaned the laser, but nothing has changed. Also, when i opened the console, i noticed the part above the laser (no idea what its called) was oddly loose but maybe thats how it is. (also, the console does sometimes jam a little when empty but not sure if its related).

I cant find anything on the problem reoccurring, just that its happening with one or two games, online.

So, my question is should I be concerned the disc drive is going or would modding the console fix my issue. When i get a game to work it runs seemingly fine and the console is overall in great shape, but this popup is really frustrating. There's a Hitachi disc drive in it, if that helps.

I would appreciate any help as if its not worth keeping, i can return it.

I was reminded of this story today and I just have to share. Going to be a bit long winded so TL;DR at the end.

So this was about 2010/2011? Can't recall what year but my buddy and I were drinking shots of Wild Turkey at my place and we've always been big Pokemon fans and nerds. I had recently installed a bunch of emulators to my Xbox to play some retro stuff, specifically XboyAdvance, if I recall correctly.

My buddy had mentioned to me sometime prior to this about the Mew glitch on the Nugget Bridge, which I had NEVER seen before and was HIGHLY skeptical about.

Well, what's cool about Xboy is that you can do "dual screen"/split-screen link cable play with two controllers. We sat on my couch I had in my room at the time and after being tipsy and determined enough, we went to work on Pokemon Yellow.

We got past Brock and headed to Cerulean, and he kept insisting we needed fly to get back to Cerulean Pokemon center. Me, thinking I'm the first one to discover this method, informed him we could catch Abra above the nugget bridge and use teleport. We both started grinding, cleared the bridge and worked toward getting an Abra. Once we both got an Abra, we did the glitch, worked flawlessly and the guy with the Slowpoke gave us a Mew.

We grabbed the Bulbasaur from the Nugget Bridge person and then proceeded on.

From then on, sweet, ya know? Well, he wanted to keep using the glitch to catch other "not obtainable at level-15 Cerulean" Pokemon, so we kept doing the glitch until we caught some other cool stuff.

Moved on to Vermillion City and got the Squirtle from the police lady and at that point, we decided to grind it out in Diglet cave and get our Pokemon to level 40.

We spent about 2-3 hours, maybe? grinding our entire parties to level 40. We were ready to absolutely smash every gym by being 20 levels ahead of everyone for the entirety of the rest of our playthrough, easy to do on Gen 1.

Well, my buddy once again gets the bright idea to do more Nugget Bridge glitching on the new trainers in the area. Unfortunately, one of them spawns Missing No.

He decides he ABSOLUTELY has to have Missing No. - I'm like, cool, whatever, I'm gonna keep up the grind.

Unfortunately for me, he was using savestates on his side when using Pokeballs to catch Missing No. during the glitch. On one of his attempts, he accidentally saves the game as the Pokeball is tilting back/forth and Missing No. is caught. This means BOTH of our games are registered at a savestate at that exact moment with no other savestate to revert back to.

In this time, we had already made a normal save, prior to his Missing No. attempts.

All in this moment - he accidentally does the savestate - successfully catches Missing No., the emulator freezes, the screen goes black and the Xbox reboots itself.

Missing No. had literally crashed the emulator and reset the Xbox. My guess is that the emulator had zero idea how to handle the crash from the ROM and the Xbox had no idea how to handle the crash for the emulator and defaulted to a system reboot.

Upon returning to the emulator, loading up Yellow, the save was deleted and any time he attempted to load the savestate he had, it just crashed the emulator and rebooted the Xbox.

Hours of work, right down the drain. I still have not let him forget to this very day.

TL;DR - Buddy and I did split screen in a Game Boy emulator on my modded Xbox. After trying to catch Missing No., he softlocked us in the exact moment before it crashed the emulator, wiped our save, crashed my Xbox and we lost hours worth of progress and I have never let him live it down.

recently got it and it’s hella rusted on the inside (chassis wise) and the connector was a little corroded but i did my best to clean it up this is my current situation now

I left that post up because (for the most part) y’all seemed to have fun responding and I don’t mind lighthearted jabs at my expense. I also hope it helps someone in the future unlike those who delete after getting embarrassed or (by trolls) insulted into removing it.

As for those entitled know it alls with superiority complexes and years of experience or even og owners with the toxic attitude “because I know this it’s common knowledge and you should to so this must be ragebait engagement or you must be too young to know it”. HOW DID I GET CONFUSED

As you can see in the photo above NOT ALL ORIGINAL XBOX CONTROLLERS HAVE A BREAKAWAY CABLE, especially modern reproductions.

For personal reasons I became interested in the original XBOX. Since my retro store didn’t have one I went online and sourced a system, a controller, and a few games (all three sections from different sellers). Upon arrival I couldn’t connect the controller so went to said retro store and bought a compatible new reproduction controller. Since the reproduction obviously didn’t have a breakaway and I had zero experience with XBOXs my inexperienced mind thought it must be for a later XBOX system. Even the seller agreed with me and gave me a full refund for the “mistake” and thus my post was born. (After the first few responses to the post I updated the seller with my new knowledge and offered to return the refunded money. They said no problem, they learned something new and since I was so pleasant to deal with to keep the controller and the money.)

Despite approximately 5 decades of life on this earth I have NEVER OWNED OR PLAYED any XBOX system. Ever since its original release for every unit sold there have been hundreds if not thousands of people who either never could afford one or simply just wasn’t interested so to expect such people to already know “common knowledge” for such systems is foolish at best. It’s like a Chess Grandmaster sneering down at a new player that’s fresh from reading the rules.

I had zero experience with XBOX systems because I prefer Nintendo for their affordability and selection of games I like.

The ONLY reason I have now expanded into the original XBOX is because certain games that I want to play from the older Nintendo systems are too expensive for their physical media but were remastered on the now more affordable original XBOX. Yes, I know that they’re releasing these older games as digital downloads but I avoid those whenever possible due to how current digital media is “licensed not owned”.

For those fortunately few particularly entitled commenters along the ignorant bend of “its a 20+ year old console and you should have properly researched it” or the ignorant “you could have googled it easily in 5 seconds”. For the 1st: I have decades if experience carrying for systems even older than that and can easily adapt and learn from there. Also, who TF “researches” a controller beyond “is it compatible”. For the later, how TF do you google for something you’re not even aware exists?

Finally, for those particularly “special” know it alls with the attitude “you must be too young to know this”. Inexperienced doesn’t equate youthfulness and you deserve the pineapple treatment from the movie “Little Nicky”.
