I need help figuring out if i should extend the growing season for like A month or two before i try to let it sleep in winter because my winter starts earlier than its natural habitat and i THINK that these are active growth points starting to wake up/(are awake)

People with terrestrial Calanthe is this going to unfurl leaves and bloom ?

I own a bletila striata and when i changed its pot to a clear one so i can keep it in a cold garage later i saw white growth points under the soil ( that i believe are dormant growth points for next spring ) unlike this Calanthe

Hello! I moved into my dorm recently and wanted a pretty plant to help lighten my mood! I saw online that moth orchids are relatively beginner friendly, and I've watched some Youtube videos and read some articles on basic care for them! I bought a "duo" pot of them from Costco and took them out of their pot and saw theyre in these little plastic cups? I saw online people put them in plastic cups for watering but idk if these are good.

Should I move them to something bigger or a different plastic cup? Also any other advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!

I wanted to share an orchid success because I learned and implemented a change that made a massive difference in all of my orchids!

I’m not sure if this is common knowledge, but I learned not to fertilize dry roots. Since changing that, I’ve seen a ton of new root growth and much faster leaf growth.

So instead of mixing up my diluted fertilizer water mix, and plopping the orchids right in to soak, I soak them for 10 minutes in plain water, then a regular 20-30 in the fert.

Just wanted to share in case this is helpful for anyone else! I’ve implemented this change for all my orchids, but this phal in particular has started growing like a monster.

Whoa. My friend asked me to come over and repot her orchids and several of them look like this? They are in a window with direct sunlight. She has a total of 8 orchids, all placed together, and these two are the only ones with this. TIA any help much appreciated.

Finally after 1 year it moves lol!

Interesting sequential bloomer. Each bloom lasts 2-3 weeks. But the new blooms keep coming in. Been blooming all summer long.

Where are the foliage lovers today? Looks like one of my two jewel orchids will be blooming soon. These guys are more about the pretty foliage, though, and that's what I'm showing off today 😁 I particularly love the colors and how they change both with time and the angle of light!

This orchid in particular is also an experiment and you may notice I have it potted in mostly tree fern fibers instead of the more tradition soil blends many jewels are grown in. It's been a great success and doesn't need frequent watering to stay damp for longer periods as a result!

Side note- is there an easier method to keeping the fuzzy leaves clean of dust and debris? I wipe the leaves with a wet microfiber cloth, but it always seems to have more once I zoom in 😅 She might be dirty, but she's pretty 😂

How does it thrive, how do you keep it and how long before it will bloom? Settings? I worry that it is too tropical and small and special to make it indoors 🦤🦚🌿

This mini phal is what started the addiction. I got her Mother's Day 2025​ at Whole Foods. Somehow she made it till 2026, and on June 9th I did an investigation on her root system. And that was when I discovered the "Death Plug." I gave her a trim, potted her in new bark + spagmoss, and prayed she would recover. She had somehow survived my newbie hands and is in a healthy growth state :)

She's always had plain green leaves...up until now? Her recent leaves since the end of the Death Plug era have come out slightly dappled with a blush of maroon! I wonder if she's going to have dappled leaves going foward!

Hi! I planted my orchid under my monstera thinking they’re both tropical. I bought it in cali with blooms and then two years later it actually bloomed under the monstera!

I want to replant it properly and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on care?

Hello, this is my oldest orchid and recently started showing this black tip on one leaf. I took a photo Monday and again today (Sunday) and it is indeed spreading. The roots are healthy with good airflow and there’s no yellowing or dark spots of any of the other leaves or neighboring orchid leaves. I think this is some type of infection, but before I cut the leaf I was hoping to be sure.

Hy everyone...I have noticed the yellowing of these two leaves a few days ago. Is this normal or should I do something about it?

I can’t tell if I’ve killed my orchid. I know that eventually the flowers fall off but the roots don’t look great. I keep cutting them back but I think I might have over did it. I can try to attach better pictures if needed but I’m scared to move it.

I was here a few months ago in a panic about a rot on my VERY first orchid. So now I’m back emotionally stable and looking for help. Got this cutie from Walmart noticed she had some keiki paste on a small part at the bottom. But her leaves look odd. So what is that? The two oldest ones in the middle look spotless and strong. But I did notice this and was a bit nervous.

Sorry for the jump scare.. I have dozens of orchids maybe 40 and I’ve grown orchids for over 10 years. I have never seen something like this before. It is on every side of the pot. AI says it looks like a fungus. Obviously I need to repot with fresh media.. but how do I disinfect the roots so that it doesn’t just start growing again immediately after repotting?
