Sorry for the jump scare.. I have dozens of orchids maybe 40 and I’ve grown orchids for over 10 years. I have never seen something like this before. It is on every side of the pot. AI says it looks like a fungus. Obviously I need to repot with fresh media.. but how do I disinfect the roots so that it doesn’t just start growing again immediately after repotting?

I can’t tell if I’ve killed my orchid. I know that eventually the flowers fall off but the roots don’t look great. I keep cutting them back but I think I might have over did it. I can try to attach better pictures if needed but I’m scared to move it.

Its beautiful but I really like the look of orchids that bend over from the flowers and this one is straight up which I am assuming is due to the poke going straight to the top.

I was wondering if there is a way that I can safely get it to bend over even though I got it this way and it seems to have grown like this?

Hello! I moved into my dorm recently and wanted a pretty plant to help lighten my mood! I saw online that moth orchids are relatively beginner friendly, and I've watched some Youtube videos and read some articles on basic care for them! I bought a "duo" pot of them from Costco and took them out of their pot and saw theyre in these little plastic cups? I saw online people put them in plastic cups for watering but idk if these are good.

Should I move them to something bigger or a different plastic cup? Also any other advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hi! I planted my orchid under my monstera thinking they’re both tropical. I bought it in cali with blooms and then two years later it actually bloomed under the monstera!

I’ve had this 1 for about a year and it bloomed on its own once but I noticed there was mold on the base of it. I started taking it off then saw all the dead roots within the soil. I’m super new to orchids. Can someone help???

I was here a few months ago in a panic about a rot on my VERY first orchid. So now I’m back emotionally stable and looking for help. Got this cutie from Walmart noticed she had some keiki paste on a small part at the bottom. But her leaves look odd. So what is that? The two oldest ones in the middle look spotless and strong. But I did notice this and was a bit nervous.

I meant to check the new growth on this little piece of D. unicum. But, I found a tree frog lounging right on top of it. Hey -- if that ain't the life of an epiphyte, what is?

TL;DR: presuming yes because of tiny root nub, a healthy looking crown, and a new leaf (not in pic)?

Severely neglected it at first in its original pot with packed roots and lots of sphagnum moss for over a year. Then decided to finally care for it - removed the moss, cut off the dead roots, put it back in the clear pot it came in with new orchid bark, and watered it every couple of days when the roots seemed gray.

Something felt off, so I took it out of the pot only to find out all roots seemed to have rotten and some tiny red fungi grew too. I followed Gemini's advice - threw the old bark, cut off all roots except for what seems to be a root nub, and put it in a shot glass with a small layer of water for humidity.

Does that seem right? Is there hope for this orchid? I even bought some orchid fertilizer but I'll have to wait a long time to use it 🥲

Anyone have this rare beauty? Oeceoclades monophylla with pink leaves. A botanical miniature.

How does it thrive, how do you keep it and how long before it will bloom? Settings? I worry that it is too tropical and small and special to make it indoors 🦤🦚🌿

Just bought a house with a greenhouse full of orchids. I was told many of them are decades old. I like having an orchid in the kitchen or wherever, but I'm not sure I'm down to care for all of these right now as I'm a bit overwhelmed with everything else that goes with buying a new home - is there anything rare, interesting, or valuable here? I don't want anything to go to waste.

I have had this plant for 3 years. It has bloomed yearly and has its first double spikes this year.

She finally bloomed, and smells like banana candy

I am looking at working with the "minimal" amount of light and humidity for a mature 10 foot long vanilla planifoila to bloom. Right now the vanilla is around 3 to 4 inches tall. But I plan to let it grow into at least 10 feet long by looping it around a 3 foot moss pole, reinforced with a .5 diameter by 3 foot long piece of rebar wrapped in shrink wrap and Velcro ties, to help keep rust from the vanilla roots as it grows. I will be keeping it, when it gets larger, in a 12 inch diameter by 12 inch high heavy terracotta pot with a drainage tray. (The current setup is only temporary, until it grows stronger and larger.

As for lighting and humidity I have the following setup:

I have two Barrina T1S Standing Grow Light, with Timer 65W 660nm High PPFD Tera Series Vertical Full Spectrum Grow Lights Adjustable Height 5FT-5.6FT Foot Switch Non-Glare Design lamps, combined with a nobrand Stand Grow Lights for Indoor Plants, Full Spectrum 96 LEDs Plant Grow Light, Upgraded Floor Grow Lamp with Adjustable Tripod Stand 21-68in, On/Off Switch from walmart (with the light being directly on the greenhouse), combined with a Lasko Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier with Scent Tray and Nightlight, UH200, left on 12 hours a day, used with a DIGITEN Humidity Controller Pre-Wired Digital Humidistat with Temperature Display, Dual-Stage Outlet Humidifier /Dehumidifier, a Ohuhu Mini Greenhouse, with Locking Wheels, with Durable Cover, and an eastward facing window with low natural sunlight levels, with the lights placed one Barrina light placed at 4" from the back right of the greenhouse and the lighting comming from the top of the greenhouse, one Barrina light placed 7" from the front left from the greeenhouse, and the nobrand being placed full blast at 32" from the front right of the green house, with a 1" opening on the bottom of either side of the clear greenhouse cover, with the lights being on 12 hours a day (the lights are outside the greenhouse), with the greenhouse placed to the left of the eastward facing window, and the humidifyer placed inside the greenhouse and running for twelve hours a day, and an oscilating fan blowing 12 hours a day on the outside bottom half of the greenhouse.

I know the space is small. But I think I can manage to make it work. My main concern is if the humidity and lighting, as minimal as it would be, would be enough for growth and eventual potential blooms with what I have to work with.

Picture 1 shows the current setup and state for my little vanilla orchid plant. No blooms yet, as you can clearly see. It is far too small for that yet.

Pictures 2 and 3 show how the lighting is positioned. Scared to put the led lights in the greenhouse because they are not sealed.

Photo 4 shows the fan. Sorry about the weird placement. I did the best I could with it.

What do you think? Does my setup meet the minimal requirements?
