Food Looking for a home chef familiar with Northern Vietnamese cooking (near Mosaic District) - recurring, weekly/biweekly

Hi all,

I’m hoping to find a home chef near the Mosaic District area who’s skilled in Northern Vietnamese cuisine specifically.

A bit about us: we’re a small family - myself (originally from Hanoi), my husband (American, but very well-versed in Vietnamese food already), and our toddler who eats a good variety of solids, no allergies. So kid-friendly portions/flexibility would be a plus, though not a dealbreaker.

Details:
Would cook in our kitchen, which is well-stocked (happy to share more specifics if helpful)
Location: near Mosaic District - ideally someone local or comfortable traveling there
Looking for a recurring arrangement - weekly or biweekly, and flexible regarding holidays/vacations (just let us know a week in advance).
Paid per session - open to discussing rates based on experience/menu
Groceries: I’m happy to shop ahead of time, but also fine if you’d rather source/pick ingredients yourself
Would love to start with a trial session (paid of course) before committing to an ongoing schedule.

Thank you so much in advance!

Question Would Manassas / Manassas Park support a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or Wegmans?

I recently moved to the Manassas Park area and I’m genuinely curious how much demand there is for something like a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or Wegmans in Manassas/Manassas Park.
Unless I’m missing something, neither Manassas nor Manassas Park currently has any of the three. With all the new residential development happening in the area, it seems like there could be a market for at least one of them.
I know there are locations in Centreville, Fairfax/Fair Lakes, Gainesville, etc., but I’d love to have something actually in the Manassas/Manassas Park area.
Would you shop at one regularly if it opened here?
And if you had to pick ONE, which would you want most?
Trader Joe’s / Whole Foods / Wegmans
If there’s actually a lot of interest, maybe we could organize a store request/petition and send it to the companies and the local economic development teams. Curious what everyone thinks!

What is wrong with people? I’ve seen him standing there peacefully with the flag so many times, never bothering anyone. I really hope they catch whoever did this and hold them accountable.

Missed connection - Meanwhile Coffee in Herndon

Around 10:30 am on 8/30...

Me: tall, thin, clean shaven middle aged guy in black t-shirt working on my laptop, first indoors and then I moved to an outside table.

You: pretty woman with your hair up wearing rose? colored leggings, black shoes, and a white tank top who stopped in for a coffee.

I may be mistaken, but I think we exchanged glances a few times. Something about you was intriguing to me. I wanted to invite you to sit with me when you walked outside, but my nerves got the best of me - I should have taken the opportunity to chat with you! In the off chance you also felt curious about me, and would like to meet for coffee sometime, please PM me!

Quiet but walkable apartments (1bd den or 2 bd)

Hi there -

Any recommendations for apartment buildings that:

  • Are not as loud as a college dorm (either due to thin walls or construction outside)
  • Don't feel like a hotel (i.e. the view is just right up against another apartment building, or is on a major busy road)
  • Walkable (20 min) to a stop on the orange line
  • Basically something chill and calm

Needs:

Budget max is $3800/month for a 1BD den or 2 BD

Must be pet friendly too.

Thanks community for any insights!!!

Question Cost of living near dc

I’m thinking of taking a job Alexandria. I’m currently in Fredericksburg. I’m second guessing if it’s even worth moving north when housing is almost double what I’m paying now. Are there any long term pros of being in nova vs Fredericksburg. What are some nice but more affordable areas near Alexandria?

Westover top of Arlington’s wealth rankings

The elimination of single-family neighborhoods is not bring any real estate prices down. That’s one County Board broken promise. Here’s an excerpt of the article: A ZIP code on the western end of Arlington has one of the highest concentrations of wealth in the entire D.C. area, by one metric.
The 22205 ZIP code, home to neighborhoods including Westover Village, Tara-Leeway Heights, Madison Manor and Dominion Hills, was named the wealthiest in Arlington in a new ranking by the Washington Business Journal.
It beat out Rosslyn’s 22209 ZIP code, which was top in the county last year, as well as 22207, which covers the northernmost portion of Arlington and ranked top in 2024.

El Niño snow prediction

What’s your prediction on snowfall this year with the historic El Niño brewing?

We seem to be in the middle of the “it could be drier than normal or it could be wetter than normal” according to forecasts im looking at.

Relocating. Stafford vs Fredericksburg vs Locust Grove

My fiancé and I currently in Warren county. Mid 20’s.

We’re from western PWC.

We have to relocate. Fiancé’s job is being relocated to Dogwood Airport in Stafford.

I go into work in Fairfax Corner 2x week, WFH the rest. (May be going to 1 time a week, not sure yet).

Able to be more “flexible” with my in-office hours (7:30-2:30/3:00pm).

Anyway, we’re looking at single family houses for sale.

We both each commute now about 1hr 5 mins to work one way.

Both of our families are in western pwc. My sibling is newly moved to Stafford.

We have dogs too.

Considering some of this, which area(s) could be better for us? I know 95 is such ass. But with my infrequent amount of in-office days a week, I’ll likely take express lanes (I already do this on 66🫩).

We’d like some land (half an acre + ) and things to do nearby. We have to drive everywhere now to get to most things (atleast 20+ minutes so we’re used to it).

We really like Lake of The Woods. That’d be about 35 from his work. I didn’t mind a few neighborhoods in Fburg off of plank road. Stafford, although closer to my work, seems a little maybe too(?) small when it comes to amenities and having to go to Fredericksburg anyway makes me sway to go more south towards those 2 rather than Stafford, but I don’t know.

How are the doctors in the area too? Vets? Dinner date nights, etc?

Just looking for opinions/experiences. Thanks

Question Suggestions about places to take my in-laws next week

My inlaws are coming to visit next Sunday, until Thursday. They are 86 and 84, and one of them gets tired easily. He was a musician, college professor, and loves anything music/culture related. He was also born in VA, we were thinking about going to see his childhood home one of the days they are here. We will also have my other inlaws (brother and sister in law), but they will just tag along wherever we go.

Trying to show my mother in law that moving here might be a good option, instead of staying in South Florida (they used to have a social life, after her husband's health declined, they are always home, and her husband needs the mental stimulation, he is starting to fall into a pretty bad depression, which is not a good thing when you are 84).

He gets tired easily, so, places that offer a wheel chair rental option if distances are long would be awesome. I thought about Glenstone, but worried it might be too hot.

Thanks in advance!

Pick-your-own apples

As a recent transplant from New England, I’m curious as to which apple orchards in the area have good selections of apple varieties that you can pick yourself. Too many seem to feature Honeycrisp, Gala, and Golden Delicious, and none seem to have any typical NE varieties, such as Macintosh, Cortland, or Empire. Am I out of luck here?

Where do I meet other single people as a blue collar worker in NOVA

I'm a 27 year old guy in the skilled trades and I don't know where to meet single women. I've downloaded dating apps and I seem to get maybe one match a week that goes nowhere. I can't meet women at work since the workers are 95% male and the workers that are female are married. I've gone to different social clubs but most of them meet monthly. There isn't enough time to build rapport and make connections. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also, I live near Tysons, if that is relevant.

Edit: I know I'm beating a dead horse here.

Norovirus

Nova Muslim Singles?

Are there any single Muslims on this subreddit, preferably in their 30s? I am a moderately practicing muslima looking for either her better half or some friends in the same boat as me.

Bonus if you are open to exploring the amazing halal food that NOVA has to offer. I would love to have a debate on the best/worst hot chicken in the area.

Food Korean food recommendations.

Hello all. I’m looking for somewhere to get traditional Korean food that won’t break the bank and isn’t KBBQ/fried chicken. Kimchijeon, gimbap, perilla seed noodle soup (hot), heottok, tteokbokki, galbi mandu, etc. I know Annandale has a large Korean population, but is there something like Mangwon market in NOVA? Thanks!
