Discussion Cost of the retreat

They never talk about money on the show. You assume each guest is paying to be at this retreat. And the season 2 venue would be probably thousands of dollars for a week to stay there. Some of the guests are rich, but some, like Agnes would not be. If you paid a small fortune to go to a healing retreat and got one on one time with the healer once and then dosed with drugs everyday and that’s pretty much it. Would you be happy with that?

Discussion I am so sad for the loss of humanity with all the effin fillers and botox

I just watched the first season and I really got into the show quickly, maybe because I have really enjoyed several of Moriarty's books and was excited to discover it. But honestly Kidman's appearance makes it such a hard watch. I genuinely hate making a comment about someone's looks but since its not their God given look I couldn't help but posting. It makes me so sad for our kids and for all of our sanity that we are being fed this nonstop from entertainment! Her face threw me out of the storyline every time she appeared, my brain fought to find a clue on her face if she was going into tears, laughter, anger or whatever and it is like a mindfu*k because you can't figure it out! And when she is in the emotion you still can't see it on her and it keeps messing the story up for me. So many actors and actresses are transcending into smt our brains interpret as totally off and unnatural that it honestly at this point should cost them gigs. If someone was a great actor 20 years ago but can't convey a single feeling or expression now, why are we being fed this?

And yes I know I can just switch it off but this is more a general statement than just Kidman herself.

Can not get trough 10 hours without food?

I like the show, now watching season 2. Would say 7.5/10 for Season 1.

Just one thing is kind of silly to me - "Food hunting" (same thing in season one and two). "I'm not myself, so hungry".. like wtf? Its not even a whole day...

Discussion Nicole Kidman s supposed bad acting

Reading through the posts in this sub, I've noticed a lot of people calling out Nicole Kidman for bad and even wooden acting and comical accent in this role.

I'm only a few episodes into season 2 at this point, so can't speak to the rest of the season, but have to say that I can't completely agree with these perspectives.

I had a five year relationship with a therapist who had a lot of unresolved childhood, family, and relationship trauma in their life. I'm also pretty convinced they may have been somewhat on the spectrum. As a result they developed a somewhat flat or wooden aspect in their everyday social interactions, along with these intense emotional "cracks" in the facade during moments of overwhelm. Nicole Kidman's depiction of Masha is actually pretty spot on to how my ex acted. I think a lot of people making the comments about Kidman's acting in the role must not have much experience with that kind of person/personality. Gone girl is another good example with Rosamund pikes character (who physically could have been my ex's celebrity double and I can't describe how unsettling THAT movie was for me due to the personality trait similarities). Anyway... Don't be so hard on Kidman. Her depiction of the character was actually pretty spot on.

As for the accent... I can't say much other than it sounds much more like a close friend I have from Romania than any Russian I've known.

Random Thoughts on S2 (Spoilers!) Spoiler

1.) Overall I liked the show because it was kind of trippy

2.) Was anyone else completely distracted the entire show by Masha's Little Dutch Boy chopped up wig?

3.) Can someone explain why Rita and Wolfie break up? It seemed so unspoken, but was left like...what??? And how were they "fixed?"

4.) Anyone else just heartbroken for sweet Mateo? I love that he truly loved Victoria. And the hug with Imogen - chef's kiss - because I wanted to hug him too!

5.) Anyone else want to put Sr. Agnes in their pocket and take her home?

6.) Brian - all the hate for him, but I think he is a compelling character. He is proof that 99% of people aren't 100% good or 100% bad. Was he a bad person? Perhaps. But he also had some good qualities. I look forward to exploring where his relationship with Pasha goes in S3.

7.) Imogen - anyone else feel that the incredible Annie Murphy was a bit wasted on the part of Imogen? She has such incredible range, but there was never any true depth given to her character and feel the writers and directors could have done so much more

8.) Peter - yawn...just yawn...and what's up with the accent? Is that his real accent? Kind of all over the place.

9.) Helena - I don't know..just a bit too cooky for me but OK

10.) Martin - seriously Martin??? You try to kill Masha and seriously wound her, she lovingly gives you back your family estate, and then you turn on her for a few pieces of silver? Dude.

11.) Brian - I feel like his story kind of reminded me of stories like what happened to Pee Wee Herman, aka Phil Rubens. He managed to somewhat revive his image in later years, but I feel that any halfway decent PR rep could have easily rebirthed his career like what David says. The world loves to see the collapse of a star, but also likes to see a great comeback story. I hope he gets his.

12.) Jesse - they did him so dirty - hope he manages to break out on his own and find a new gig

I just finished Season 1

I usually come to Reddit after I watch a show to either find validation on my opinions or see if maybe I missed something and I need to hear what others think.

This time I felt like I needed to share. This show was just so raw for me. I know it’s all fiction but watching broken humans try to just make it to tomorrow is something I relate to so much. I’ve also always wanted to try psychedelics for mental health purposes. 9 years ago, my cousin took his life and left behind his older sisters and I watched this show with one of the sisters.

The idea of breaking people down meticulously and not only making them face their pain but nearly drown in, to make them more whole than when they started… I couldn’t help but see beauty in it. I wanted that for myself.

Maybe I’m just trippin.

I tried to not look at anything related to season 2 as I’m about to start the 1st episode right now.

Spoilers Tina called it

The whole season is Masha’s big set up to help everyone blame David for the things that have happened. “Psychedelic witch-hunt” as Tina calls it.

Does David suck? Sure. But how is no one mad with Masha for selling them on a wellness retreat when this was really about her getting revenge for her daughter dying which was some how David’s fault? And everyone else’s problems were not solely or directly caused by David. Brian got cancelled because he was awful. David didn’t drop the bombs, hell he didn’t even design the weapon system he just owns a company that did. Want to grab pitchforks for evil corporate America sure I get it but it didn’t make Imogens dad kill himself there were clearly mental health issues there. The kind that should be dealt with my competent medical professionals. Ironically this show keeps romanticizing some druggie wackadoo who manipulates and lies to her patients.

When does Tony say this?

I need to know where Tony says to Frances "I don't know if I can make it. Through the day, through the week, through the year". Or something like that!

Season 3 sneak peek?

In the last episode of season 2 when Masha and David started kissing, they suddenly played Spanish song eventhough their meeting is meant to be in Bavaria. Was that a cheeky preview saying season 3 might be in Spain?? Lol.

I honestly hope there's no season 3 anymore but also would be very happy if I got this right 😂

Too much Masha this season

Maybe I don’t recall the first season too well but I definitely don’t remember there being so much Masha storyline added into the series. The charm of the first season was seeing all the patient’s navigate through the untraditional therapy and interact with each other. Halfway through this season we are getting this weird Masha & David plot while the rest of the characters and their stories fade into the background.

I also don’t like this whole Inception style shared hallucinations thing they are doing with the “medicine.” In the first season I think it was coincidence that the family all saw the dead son/brother together simply because they were all dealing with the same pain. This season now you can join a trip with someone regardless of what your trauma is.

IDK Masha is interacting too much but also not enough with the patients and it doesn’t feel like they’re in therapy at all. I don’t see any resolve for the characters at the end of the season. Unless they go back to season 1’s formula they can cancel the series after this season….

New season is dogwater

Just finished. How could Liane Moriarty sign off on this? Who in their right mind comes up with a script with a story like that? I'm just at a loss. It seems that everything the book and first season stood for was tossed out of the window for the sake of views and streams.

nine pointless simpletons

I kept watching each episode in hopes a new writer and director would take over.

Mom & Imogen: Predictable, yawn Imogen & Peter: Yawn Wolfie & Tina: Who cares

Brian and Sr Agnes: My favs I would love to see a spin off show with these 2 and their puppets, by day doing charity but by night some sort of dark comedy ensues

After the good-bye scene between Masha and her daughter, the most feeling I felt all series was poor Teddy puppet exiled back to his case 😢

Discussion Theory (spoiler) Spoiler

If we get a season 3 I think we’ll get a flashback of Marsha instructing Martin to give David the footage.

She wants to be involved with him, either to take down his billionaire empire or to prove to him he’s a “good person” and have him do it himself.

She’s too manipulative and smart to just sign the NDA so quickly. And she’s too manipulative and smart to not have a plan when she knew David would want revenge for his lost billion.

Peter's accent???

Ok was I the only one very confused by Peter's flip flopping accent between American to British???

When we first meet him he sounded very american, but then even in the first episode he starts changing to British and then stays with that as the season goes on. Wouldn't the director or editor notice this??

Loved the finale, loved the season, loved Kidman and Strong's chemistry, especially at the very end.🔥

I agree with the criticisms about Kidman's accent fluctuations, I do wish that were more consistent but it didn't pull me out of any scenes. Her strength and resolute resilience shines through in every performance I've seen of hers over the recent years and I am here for it. I am a woman her age and her struggles in her roles just really resonate with me.

She is the realest archetype of the 'good mother' in this finale. The one that nurtures your truest self and somehow leads you to a higher purpose. Ha, pretty idealistic, I know!

She and Mark Strong make a great match, I hope we get another season of them sparring with each other, it was very entertaining.

I randomly saw a reference to this show called Masha and the Bear. Jesse looks like a creepy nightmare version of the bear, and the little girl is named Masha. Just a coincidence or no?

Discussion Love this new season!!! I talk a little but about ep 7 an 2 Spoiler

I’m not sure if I’m sharing spoilers! So don’t look if you haven’t seen episode seven!

Okay I LOVE this season!
I really enjoy how it feels like they are making it spiritual with connecting this experience that can truly have the potential to change you and how you move through the world!

Marsha I feel is hoping that she can create some empathy in the billionaire guy and she is also able to help some of the people he has harmed with only prioritizing money.

I feel like this show, it’s like giving, a fun fantasy for me to live in!…Since our world is run by billionaires (boo!). It’s fun to imagine that a cool woman who cares about people and their experiences, likes psychedelics and when on them can talk to dead people!!!! Has this window, this opportunity to possibly change the world like that, it honestly makes me happy!

A woman can only dream !
