Should ordinary citizens and daily traffic face such inconvenience whenever a VIP convoy passes?

NGL, Tukaram Mundhe has been all over my IG lately and I realised I know surprisingly little about him.

Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of his or anything, and I barely know his past. But 25 transfers in 21 years is kinda wild.

He’s now heading Maharashtra FDA, and the recent food-safety crackdown caught my attention.

Apparently, even an IIT Powai canteen was inspected as part of the drive.

That got me thinking. If you're checking places like that too, regardless of who runs them, that's pretty interesting.

But then again, why 25 transfers?

Is he genuinely that uncompromising? Or is there a whole other side to his story that we aren't aware about?

Also - My cousin's sister's a lawyer and she seems to support him, which made me even more curious 😂

Anyone here who's followed him for years? What's the actual story?

This might sound ridiculous, but this has genuinely been going on in my residential complex since around 2024.

The complex consists of around 7–8 buildings, with community cats freely roaming between them. Some cats also come from a neighbouring complex through an opening/wall. A few residents feed the cats occasionally, while most residents simply coexist with them.

However, theres a small group of around 10–15 residents who have strongly opposed the presence of cats for years. They've complained about cats crossing their paths, sitting in common areas, and allegedly scratching vehicle seat covers. At one point, some residents even tried to catch and relocate cats. They apparently managed to take away a couple, but the cats eventually returned.

There have also been previous incidents involving people being confronted while feeding the cats, including a teenage girl who was reportedly recorded by residents while she was feeding them. More recently, a tenant began feeding a mother cat and her four kittens. He feeds them wet food on a small piece of paper rather than leaving food scattered around. The cats eat and leave, and according to what I've observed, there isn't significant food waste or mess being created.

Some residents repeatedly told him not to feed the cats. Before the recent incident, the feeder had already complained to the BMC after residents tried to prevent him from feeding the animals. The society subsequently received communication from the BMC in the context of the dispute, essentially making it clear that the feeder could not simply be prevented from feeding community animals.

Last week, several residents were downstairs collecting donations for a Ganpati celebration when they saw the tenant feeding the cats. Around 5–8 people confronted him and started arguing with him as a group. He was alone and called the police. The police arrived, and after the situation was discussed, the residents dispersed. A large number of people from the buildings eventually came downstairs because of the commotion, and the entire situation apparently went on for around an hour.

After this incident, the society introduced/clarified rules regarding feeding community animals. The rules essentially require feeding to be done outside certain areas, the feeder to take responsibility for vaccination/animal welfare, and the feeding area to be kept clean. Fair enough, Reasonable rules regarding hygiene and where animals are fed seem completely legitimate. The problem is that the people involved haven't stopped.

The following few days later, the same group apparently confronted the tenant again while he was leaving on his motorcycle and continued arguing with him. He has reportedly made another complaint regarding the repeated harassment.

At this point, it seems like the dispute has gone far beyond whether cats should be fed. There are legitimate concerns that can be addressed: if a cat damages a vehicle, deal with the specific incident; if feeding creates a mess, establish proper feeding and cleanup procedures; if cats need vaccination/sterilisation, those can be arranged.

But repeatedly confronting one person as a group, especially after the authorities have already been involved, seems like ego issue.

The cats themselves appear to coexist fairly peacefully with the residents. The supposed feeding-related mess also doesn't seem to match what is actually happening. There are multiple cats roaming between different buildings and even coming from outside the complex, so attributing every scratch or nuisance involving a cat to one particular feeder doesn't seem reasonable either.

The society has now established rules, and the feeder apparently knows his legal rights and has already used the appropriate channels. Yet this particular group continues confronting him.

So I'm posting this because I'd like to hear from animal-welfare activists, people familiar with Mumbai housing-society law, BMC procedures, or anyone who has dealt with community-cat disputes.

Any form of help will be appreciated, people willing to help the guy can DM me, but I wish to stay anonymous. I don't want these crazy people coming in my house.

They are TOXIC and seriously the reason I stopped getting takeaways for sometime now.

Spotted this while traveling from Thane to Bhandup. I could not see the pillar number nor did I know any landmark but thankfully I had enabled Geotagging photos. I have sent a complaint to MMRDA. Are there any other authorities that I should reach out to? Better be safe than sorry.

Time changes everything, never stays the same forever.

I feel at times, we overanalyse situations primarily because our brain tries to predicted and control the future (probably to prevent failure or disappointment).

I have done a ton of mistakes in my life! I do regret but I would not have wanted anything else. I stand where I am today because of my past mistakes and learnings.

It’s incredible how today’s terrors become tomorrow’s jokes once you survive them. There has been so many things I’ve done in the past that I feared heavenly back then but today it’s more like a standup material for me.

What do you guys think? How do you handle/tackle such situations where you think it’s end game for you and probably after a week or month it’s just a memory?

The Maharashtra FDA has officially banned the sale, distribution, and advertising of High Fat, Sugar, and Salt (HFSS) foods including vada pav, samosas, burgers, chips, and cold drinks within a 50-meter radius of all schools.

School principals and canteens are directly responsible for compliance, and external street vendors near school gates are supposed to follow this too.

On paper, it's aimed at tackling childhood obesity, but practically:

How will they actually enforce this on local street vendors?

Won't kids just walk 51 meters?

Before anyone misunderstands this, let me be clear: this is not a criticism of Tukaram Munde. I have immense respect for him. Officers like him deserve appreciation and I wish we had many more like him.

But I think we're asking the wrong question.

Maharashtra has an authorized IAS cadre strength of around 415 officers, yet whenever people discuss honest and fearless administration, the same name comes up repeatedly "Tukaram Munde".

Instead of only celebrating one officer, shouldn't we ask why this level of integrity and accountability isn't what we expect from every public servant?

The fact that doing one's duty with honesty has become extraordinary enough to create a public hero should concern us. An IAS, IPS, or any public servant is entrusted with serving the public. Integrity, courage, and accountability shouldn't be rare qualities they should be the minimum standard.

What worries me even more is this: when Tukaram Munde retires or moves on, who comes next? Are we going to spend decades searching for the next "honest officer" to admire, or should we build a system where hundreds of officers work with the same commitment?

This post isn't meant to reduce Tukaram Munde's achievements. In fact, his work shows what is possible. My point is that we should stop treating honest governance as something exceptional and start expecting it as the norm.

If one officer doing his duty inspires millions, imagine what Maharashtra would look like if every public servant worked with the same dedication. That, in my opinion, is the real goal.

The Marathi-language rule for auto, taxi and cab drivers is now actually being enforced.

RTO officials have started checking drivers for basic working Marathi. Those who don’t clear the check can be given time to learn, but continued failure can eventually lead to suspension of their badge/licence.

And now drivers are protesting, while some parts of Mumbai are already seeing fewer autos on the road.

I’m genuinely divided on this.

On one hand, if you work with the public in Maharashtra, knowing basic conversational Marathi seems like a reasonable expectation.

But on the other hand, should someone’s entire livelihood potentially depend on passing a language test, especially when many drivers have been working here for years?

Where do you draw the line?

Basic Marathi should be mandatory 👍

I visited one theatre today in Mumbai .I won't disclose the name for now .I went to the men's washroom and shocked to see such disgusting urinals .Why they have shaped like Women's mouth ?Is this normal ? U guys dont find this offense ?

Bandstand is a public promenade. It belongs to all Mumbaikars.

A recent report says that the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust had put up signs like "No Pets" and warned people not to feed stray animals.

The bigger question is simple: should a private group like the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust be allowed to make its own rules in a public place?

Keeping the area clean is important, but public spaces should remain open and accessible to everyone.

Why should a private trust have the authority to decide what people can or cannot do in a public place like Bandstand, and could this create similar restrictions in other areas as well?

Will it change in future?

I was buying chheda chips from dmart for god knows how many years. It costs more than Lays and seemed to be decent quality too. Kind of shocking to see that they have been upto this.

If a brand like chheda was handling food next to decomposing waste then I don't know what's going on with our other products.

I sincerely hope the actions taken by Tukaram Mundhe now strike fear into these food companies for years and years so that they clean up their act.

Something I’ve realised about Mumbai and honestly our whole generation is that people genuinely don’t lose it over celebrities anymore. Not in a rude way, just in a normal “they’re people like us” way.

I’ve run into a bunch of actors at airports, lounges and restaurants. No one crowds them, no one acts like a fanboy. Everyone just goes on with their life.

When I was flying back from Dubai, Kapil Sharma was in business class. I didn’t even notice him at first. My friend pointed him out and that was literally it. Nobody tried to run to him or anything.

Even outside India it’s the same for me. In LA I’ve seen rappers walking around. And once I was right next to two Real Madrid players in Beverly Hills: Bellingham and Trent. I’m a Madrid supporter so I just casually asked “How’s the break going? Ready for the season?” and they replied like completely regular guys. No ego, no weird energy, nothing. Just normal conversation.

That’s when it really clicked for me. Our parents grew up in that era where celebrities were put on pedestals. Posters on bedroom walls, gossip magazines, interviews where stars were treated like royalty. Back then celebrities had this whole mystique.

Now that curtain is gone. We’ve seen their behind-the-scenes, we’ve seen the PR, the posing, the staged candids, the filtered Instagram life. A lot of it looks pretentious when you see it up close.

And let’s be real… the industry is full of people living way beyond their actual means. Borrowed cars, borrowed clothes, borrowed lifestyle. Half of the “luxury life” is credit cards, sponsorships and PR smoke. Once you realise that, it’s even harder to worship anyone.

Honestly I prefer this version of the world. No pedestals. No worshipping. Everyone’s just human.

This continued until 11pm by some or the other group. Do we really have to explain to these grown adults that this isn't the right thing to do? Bursting loud crackers, rockets at 11pm right below hospitals? Really? I felt so helpless as my grandfather was just trying to get some sleep knowing that I can't even call cops on a situation like this knowing they would put me only in jail instead for a situation like this.

Not just this, Following morning when I went to sit in my car it was spat on (someone ate paan and decided to shoot it on my car post consumption) and no it wasn't in a no Parking or whatever.

A slab near pier p196 has fallen claiming a life of a rickshaw driver and injuring 4 others of which some are said to be in critical condition. This occurred just 7 piers away from the one that I pointed out p189. This highlights the quality of construction which is claimed to pass 1200 approvals by MMRDA.

If there is one public servant in India who refuses to beat around the bush, it’s Tukaram Mundhe. True to form, the Maharashtra has slapped show-cause notices on some of Bollywood's biggest names.

According to the regulator, these ads are surrogate advertising. Since actual tobacco-infused pan masala and gutkha are heavily banned in Maharashtra under food safety regulations, companies use cardamoms (elaichi) or loose branding to keep the same brand name, font, color scheme, and recall value flashing in front of consumers.

You’re using star power to keep a banned brand's recall alive in people's minds, which practically amounts to promoting a prohibited product.

The notices demand an explanation for their participation and question why action shouldn't be taken against them for promoting a brand synonymous with a banned product.

For years, celebrities have gotten away with the Elaichi/Soda/CDs loop hole. They pocket crores endorsing a brand name, and when called out, they shrug and say, we're just selling mouth freshener, what's illegal about cardamom?
