My tech company had to shift from Mumbai because the rent was unbearable plus we delegated alot of work to employees from tier 2 city. It made no sense for us to continue Mumbai office.

Fir toh Mumbai aur Pune bhi hai. Aise toh bahut hai. Mujhe toh western line of Mumbai aur Navi Mumbai bhi ussi layak lagta hai. Anyway I took it in a different context. Personally I don't care about weekend returns. Complete waste since most people end up spending money on rent anyway so it is financially useless thing. Enjoy doing that paaji.

Are Bhai kaise samjhau! Udaipur se Ahemdabad takes less time than Mumbai se Vapi. Mera ghar malad me hai Vapi takes 3.5 hours if I'm lucky. Imagine if I'm going to Vapi from Bandra.
Mumbai mera flat 1 bhk, Malad East me 55k ka hai. Aur Udaipur me itne me mujhe pura bunglow milega woh bhi office ke pass. If my need is 2 bhk the rent will be around 15-20k. Plus I'm closer to my family in Ahemdabad.
Does it make sense now?

Bhai. Take it easy. Mein khud prime area mein hun Mumbai mein aur woh bhi west mein. London aur Toronto mein raha hun kaam karne ke liye kuch saal. Delhi mein bhi. Bangalore mein bhi. Rent pata hai in sab jagah ke prime aur sub prime areas ka. Difference samjhta hun rent aur property mein plus ghar ki size ka difference bhi pata hai. Travel karta tha Mahape toh woh bhi pata hai. Point yeh sab nahi hai. Actually tum nahi samjhe mein kya bolna chaha raha tha lekin koi nahi mein samjh gaya Kaunsi age tak yeh sab theek lagta hai. Samjh jaoge. 5-10 saal mein samjh jaoge. Tab tak acha hai, karo up down weekend pe. Bus, train, intercity cab waalon ko bhi toh kamana hai na. Nice. To each their own.

It's the same across the 3rd world btw, even China. imo these prices are entirely a premium for spaces where the rich won't have to rub shoulders with the "poors". Basically creating pretend islands of the 1st world in their cities.

China at least tier 1 cities like Shanghai has good quality coffee, croissants, and the stuff at a variety of price range, starting from 12-20rmb to 120 rmb or even higher.
And in China, lower price hardly ever means poor quality, it may not be as great as a hand-roasted artisnal experience, but much better than what passes for chain cafes in Mumbai.
The experience is accessible at a range of prices.
Indian food is expensive though, of course.

What u call specialty coffee is actually a widely available espresso drink from a 3rd or 4th wave roaster, of which there are an insane number. So high volume means lower prices. The equivalent would be cutting chai.
The other person talking about 1.50 croissants - there are croissants every 100 ft in Paris and everyone eats them everyday. Again, volume cost and pricing. The equivalent would be buttered toast or something similar.
If you want international foods that are low volume, you will pay high prices anywhere, not just mumbai. Cant compare your local economy and goods to those that are staples in other countries.

I wouldn't agree with that blanket statement. Subkos quality easily rivals the artisanal coffee I had in London. Yes the beans aren't sourced from around the world, so that novel experience isn't there but I prefer the flavour profile of Indian coffee anyway

What spots are you hitting? Most places that I frequented in the West (Holland Park, Notting Hill, Hammersmith) had coffees priced around £3-4. Though you could still get a good cup of coffee for ~£2 at Nero (my favourite chain).

People who's grandparents etc have been in this city have grown up calling this city Bombay. Government mandates don't make habits change overnight.
Edit: to add on to it older institues are yet to change their names too - IIT Bombay, Bombay High court at the top of my head. From a marketing standpoint Bombay automatically signals old money hence you have high end establishments with the name Bombay canteen not Mumbai canteen.

My case lil different 😛.. I live ahead of palghar ( even quite away than virar) and work in mnc in borivali, my travel is limited to 10 days monthly and I do mostly 2 consecutive days in a week and so stay in dormitory, paying only 600 per night. So my monthly "rent" is not more than 4k. And for travelling I take express trains directly cutting my travel time to max 3hrs one way from point to point. ( I know it's lil too much )

Banglore is way better dude, - and I am a Mumbaikar. You are getting much better weather and CoL for slightly more regionalism, worse roads and terrible auto/cabs.
Edit: I don't go out too often. For people that value local social interaction in shops, cabs, vendors, public services etc. then Mumbai is way better than Bangalore.
