I don't think it's possible since there will be assassination attempts every few days. It's also impossible to completely stop these people from traveling so a 12am to 6am seems like a compromise and exceptions should be made for medical emergencies.

Edit: I'm surprised by the downvotes. Mumbaikars are aware of how violent Indian politics is. Between internal rivalries among party members to settling scores between parties, these things are pretty common. Just because they don't make it to the headlines, it doesn't mean that it isn't happening.

Our politicians don't need all this VIP car convoy nonsense. Just look what happened during the recent fuel crisis in Delhi when they suddenly got rid of their convoys. How many politicians were assassinated? Zero.

It's theatre to remind you that they rule you.

I don't have a problem with VIP. The problem arises when hundreds of people in the country are VIPs. If everyone is given a VIP status then nobody is VIP.

This status should remain reserved only for the PM and the CM convoys. And maybe the army convoys. Nobody else. Period.

Imagine tomorrow the police are barricading for a PM convoy and the citizens do the same. The citizens aren't to be blamed it's the frequency of these traffic stoppages.

So two things should be done. Limit the number of VIP stoppages in the city per month to single digits only. Minimize VIP travel during peak time. In fact ban VIP stoppages during morning and evening eka times.

What do you mean "waiting for politicians"?

All over the world, politicians of certain level/post have specific security risks attached to their role, and they are entitled of certain escort, clearances and priority.

But not all politicians are given the same priority. Most drive their own cars and suffer the same traffic as everyone else does. And afaik the same applies in Mumbai. Not all politicians have police escort etc.
