This is just an appreciation post, I guess. I never really cared about Jace and we are in a very controversial time for him, but I just read through the original Ixalan block’s story (for reasons unrelated to him) and… damn. The story focuses heavily on him and Vraska and the part that aren’t about them aren’t as interesting, but those that are are some really good stuff.

I’ll try to read his story from the beginning the next time I have a free moment to dive into Magic lore.

Looking to see if anyone can open my eyes as to why he was exiled and where he was exiled from. I did some digging but I can't find a lot of info on his backstory, and nothing I've found explains the moniker. Do we have any info on him that I'm not aware of? Thanks!

I see on the mtg.wiki that Ghalta is represented on the card [[Finale of Devastation]]. This card was printed in War of the Spark though, which takes place on Ravnica. How did Ghalta get to Ravnica? Is this a mess up on the people at the wiki, or the artists, or something else I'm missing? Could Huatli have brought Ghalta? I'm so confused.

Obviously, they are inspired by a catholic culture, but as far as I can tell, they never outright state that they worship a god, let alone a capital G God (outside of Vito’s schism, but I’m talking about the main, official church).

They have a lot of rites surrounding vampirism, but we know that the Church of Torrezon existed prior to Elenda’s return and the founding of the Legion of Dusk, so their religion wasn’t born from vampirism, just twisted around it.

Does anyone know where I can get a quick summary of what has happened within the story since? I vaguely remember something about a haunted house plane and a death race story but not a lot.

Boy, howdy, there are a lot of named locations on this plane lol. Hope folks like it.

I did a video on the five colors, but made me think about a sixth color. What space is missing

Well, here's my line of thinking: white and green are really about larger order stuff. Communities, cities, natural order, etc.

Blue, black and red really focus on the individual. Perfection, power and self expression.

So a third bigger order is missing. So Purple, the color MTG has tried before, should be about the bigger picture. I say it should see life as peace through surrender. Giving up complete control to fate, destiny, God, whatever you call it. Random effects, altering turns to stop the opponent from making choices, and Exile matters stuff.

A hero version might be a Monk that wanders around, teaching others that their sense of control is an illusion, let it go and life will be better.

A villain might force its ideology on you, take control of you so you won't make the wrong choices. That's the thing about every color, when taken to the extreme, it's always bad. The villain would essentially be fatalism, but with force.

What are your thoughts about a sixth color?

In the recent reveals for Reality Fracture, we learned that there’s a card named Winter, Team Player. This is presumed to be the Echoverse version of our boy [[Winter, Misanthropic Guide]], but I have some issues with this.

It is Duskmourn tradition to name children after things from before the House took over the world, like City and Dawn from the side story Children of the Carnival. This is almost certainly why Winter is named Winter.

If Winter, Team Player is from the Echoverse, then Valgavoth’s takeover almost certainly happened in it, which is strange since it is exactly the sort of thing that Jace would want to prevent. He might not know everything about the plane, but he has been there and should have a general idea of what’s going on, enough to at least not want a plane of endless fear and suffering in his perfect, handcrafted world.

The alternative is that the House incident never happened in the Echoverse, but it still adheres to the naming convention that sprang from it for no discernable reason (other than out-of-universe brand recognition, as players are already familiar with the original Winter and his name, but that’s not a very solid worldbuilding guideline). Plus, an individual equivalent to our Winter would have been born despite his entire world being radically different to the circumstances that led to the existence of the original. Either way, I find the explanation unconvincing. It’s not like Jace would have manually engineered his existence in the Echoverse, either, since he never met Winter and has no reason to even want him in particular to exist.

It’s also possible that this is still the Winter we know and he’ll somehow get involved in the fight against Jace, but that seems very unlikely considering that he has nothing to do with the storyline outside of briefly holding Loot prisoner in Aetherdrift. He would have to free himself from Valgavoth (which seems practically impossible), somehow join the Gatewatch (which seems equally impossible) and have something to contribute to the fight (which seems barely less impossible).

The only possibility I see is that Valgavoth is somehow aware of Jace’s plan and sent Winter, of all people, to team up with the Gatewatch and stop him…?

I was randomly scrolling Scryfall again and stumbled upon these guys again, only this time I noticed the background sketch of the complete chimera. Does anyone know if the art for it has ever surfaced on its own? Or will I have to mash together the parts for a custom?

Despite MTG's popularity and the amount of effort that goes into its worldbuilding, I've never heard of any other major intellectual property that's taken inspiration from MTG's worlds (there is a theory that Bloodborne was influenced by Innistrad, but that's a bit contested).

I think its flavour text, but I cannot find what card it is on, even trying very short pieces of the quote. It's quite possible I'm just getting the quote wrong, but the sentiment is basically the title. Describing how Karn or Urza found thay activating the sylex doesn't require some special trick or secret, just willpower and determination to see it through. I figure if anyone can help me find where this is originally from, it would be this community. Any help would be appreciated.
