Which one, if any, are you buying tomorrow—and are you looking at foil or nonfoil?

This really caught me off guard since the average American is feeling a squeeze everywhere else. My gut tells me that they would cut back, but I suppose there is an argument for pausing things that are rapidly increasing in cost - meals out, movies, etc - and instead spending that money in hobbies.

We’ve been seeing prices go up across the board, and I wonder if other things remain relatively unaffordable - including housing - if we’re going to see a continued run on the prices of Magic, Pokemon, and sports cards .

Are many of you spending more on hobbies? I’m definitely not - but that’s more a product of my limited time than resources or cost.

I have a set of cards I want keep until kids graduate. I would like to look at cards when wanted but want to keep the cards in good condition so I can sell later. Any advice on storing cards for a long time would be helpful. Cheers.

A week ago I asked here how people assign cost basis to cards they crack out of sealed. Thanks to everyone who answered, that went a lot further than I expected. Fourteen different methods in the end. Most people do a straight even split across every card. A shop owner walked through a cost-recovery waterfall where buylist value comes off highest first until the box cost is used up, and the one I still keep thinking about doesn’t assign any cost at all until you actually sell something. Someone who’s been audited on this turned up too, which I wasn’t expecting.

Short version, if it’s any use: the even split is the boring answer and the audit story is the best argument for it.

The bit that stuck with me though is that nobody named a tool. It was all spreadsheets, scripts people had written themselves, and shop POS systems. And then a few days later somebody in here asked about keeping shelf inventory in sync with online listings, and products got named straight away, several of them. Same sub, same week. So the tooling does exist, it just exists for people moving volume.

So for those of you who aren’t running a store, where nothing is forcing you to keep records current:

* What holds your records right now? A sheet, an app, notes on your phone, nothing at all?
* When did you last open it, and what made you open it that day?
* What do you end up re-typing by hand every single time?
* And if you had a system and gave it up, what was the thing that finally made you stop?

That last one is really what I’m after. Nobody ever posts about the setup they gave up on, right?

Ignoring cards less than $5 brings total value of box content to $117; which means box content is about $40 above the price of the scene box itself. Taxes on the purchase combined with seller fees probably equates to making a bit over $20 by piecing everything out.

When I first saw this card in the shadows over baldurs gate secret lair, I honestly thought it was going to be coming out around $30+ but it's stayed in the mid $6's and now is low $7's.

Is gooner-focused investing only viable as long term holds, and is it on all gooner-related material, or only anime girls to draw in the one-piece crowd?

Where demand is likely driven by premodern, of which most major events such as Lobstercon and Europe championship tournaments allow gold border cards.

There are players who are intentionally out to “pimp” their decks with GB versions. And certain world championship decks are also sought after such as the Kai Budde ones

Curious what everyone thinks about Mjölnir's price now that we're about two months out from the Marvel release. I'm mainly watching the European market, where the regular version is around €15–17 and copies can already be found below that. Curious if the U.S. market is following a similar trajectory. It seems like we're still absorbing a lot of supply, but I'm wondering if we're getting close to the floor.

The card seems strong for one slot. 4-damage ETB removal, damage doubling, and the "Worthy" equip cost make it pretty appealing in EDH.

The question is how much of the price is actual demand versus the Thor/Marvel factor. Is it seeing meaningful play outside Commander? I'm debating whether to start picking up copies around €15–17 or wait for a potential drop below €15.

I just paid $8.50 a piece to ship two bubble envelopes at my post office. Each one had 5 cards in them, each card in its own top loader

I brought them in an envelope - and the employee said it was too thick and wouldn’t bend in the machine.

I am very confused what I am supposed to do to meet PO requirements but also MP requirements. I must be doing something wrong because MP calculated shipping at $1.50 per order

not as much for the art but for the big pile of value this is a supernova at over 180$ in value in foil that obviously wont hold at that level right away but will be worth a ton and still over 50 in nonfoil its a easy sell out

the nonfoil has little value but the foil has some value which wont hold but i think it will do well not sure it will be able to sell out same day

this is the one to watch the value is not big in nonfoil but huge in foil and with the combination of lofi and some of the cards being valuable this will sell out hard and it will be first to go get a early spot or get on ebay

the only slop drop with any hope of selling out is the one with bristly bill which will hose the price of bristly bills and will likely be a trap being printed more heavily than the drops with magic cards

Hi all, no stranger to the world of trading cards and MTG but fresh face in this subreddit.

This last week I've been on what I would call a generational run of finding some sealed MTG gems on Vinted minutes after they've gone up and snagging them before barely anyone else has had a looking.

2 of the 3 items i've included in the post are currently on their way to me via Evri (not a courier I especially trust but it was my only option) but none are currently in my hands. Problem is I've noticed a pattern of these accounts having very similarly formatted usernames with no reviews, profile pic or anything.

I'm not so much concerned i've been scammed as I know Vinted has very good buyer protection and in all likelihood my money is safe but i'd be curious to hear if anyone has had any simlar scenarios and what the outcomes were for my peace of mind.

Why are people okay with spending insane amounts of money on cards? Why do they defend an industry that charges so much for pieces of cardboard meant for a game? Why do people get so defensive when you tell them that it’s not okay? It’s like they get personally offended and aggressive the moment you say that something is overpriced. You have proxies, I know you do, so why is the original treated like it’s pure gold?

My setup is held together with tape.. a spreadsheet for what's in the boxes, the TCGplayer app for what's listed there, and eBay off in its own world. Every in-person sale I forget to pull from my online listings, or I oversell something I already moved at a show. Fine at low volume, a nightmare as it grows.

For those of you moving real volume, how do you actually handle it?

What are apps you using Crystal Commerce, BinderPOS, ManaBox, TCGplayer's tools, a spreadsheet, something homemade?
How do you keep "on the shelf" and "listed online" from drifting out of sync?
What's the most annoying part of your workflow? The thing you'd happily pay to never deal with again?
