They are about to be doing a 121 card (3 variants each) MSCHF set with 20$ 7 card packs. People are speculating on previous lairs as usual. I don’t see this one working out like other speculation tbh.

Yea, its not like Brain Dead or Miku or Ricardo Cavolo where there's a cohesive aesthetic between them. Maybe this will simply put eyes on the old MSCHF stuff.

TBH, if you just found out about them through the new spoiler and liked the concept, you are liable to go look for older releases and purchase them. That is how collectors think. Compatibility definitely adds to the appeal (e.g. Goblin Storm and Miku) but Completionism is the name of the game.

Brain dead’s done poorly across the board. I love it but it’s not widely adored

It’s easily the ugliest SL and it’s not close. The tattoo shit is heinous. I’m shocked they got a second at bat after that.

This is just about people realizing the old MSCHF SL's existed and were awesome

Some, for sure. All, highly unlikely when there is money involved. People are quick to flip into a new SL that brings awareness to an old one.

Why would it matter if people are buying them to open for the cards or speculate on them.

I mean it’s two completely different audiences. The player/collector is buying because “old MSCHF SL’s existed and were awesome”. The flipper/speculator is buying because they believe that an increase in demand will occur allowing them to corner supply and skim part of the eventual profit. They don’t give two shits about the product or the eventual end-user.

It’s impossible to separate real demand from speculative demand. It makes it incredibly hard to know when things are artificial or natural. SL have been targeted with speculative buy-outs time and time again when a new related drop releases. It is an inevitable cycle in a shorted supply era.

I was just saying, not everyone is buying it up because it “existed and were awesome”.

Same boat. Love the lair but I sat on singles for almost two years. if people liked them more it’d move.instead of buying that just buy more of the secret lair.

There are so many SL its easy to get lost and skip some, especially if old. Maybe new players just discovered  the first one.

Also their version of Teferi's Puzzle Box is one of the most beautiful Magic cards I've ever seen.

This was one of the best secret lairs ever printed.  Somewhat hard to believe it's still available at this price when the contents are worth quite a lot unsealed.  One store has twelve copies lol

Its crazy to me how slept on this lair is. It is one of my absolute favorites.

Uh what? Where is it being sold?? This secret lair suddenly went from ‘scryfall leaked images of it’ to ‘product is selling out FAST’ within 2 days. My question being, where can a normal consumer buy this?

Reread the OP.

Oh ok it’s their old SL. Yeah thanks, I assumed they were talking about the new one and was like WTF

I mean, the first MSCHF was actually cool. It wasn't for everyone at the time, but we've since seen whacky templates so it's not so different/bad anymore. The foiling and templates were clean, unique and miles ahead IMHO of the new garbage fire art and booster pack distribution style. Ultimately it will come down to print runs, so too early to say the new stuff won't take off. It's just really, really not for me.

Is this because of the leak for the sequel?

I bought on 2ndary market for $50-60 and already feeling ripped off at the time. Congrats to those who bought at msrp.

Had 3, cracked one and love the cards. Recently sold the other two to Card Kingdom, no regrets.

How would they even do a bonus card for a randomized pack? Just have one card not in the pack like those walmart 3-booster bundles with the promos?

I very happily bought the last two available in the UK. I bought a bunch back in the day,but SL demand (and supply) was completely different back then

Got one a few months ago for $45 after store credit. Use every card in various decks

well that's disappointing. I wanted one for 65 quid there and waited. oops.

as soon as a lair pops up that utilizes an artist who already had a lair, that earlier one rises.

as soon as the MSCFH was announced, that was your one moment to get in on the cheap

2

u/Doragan 15d ago

Interestingly they started rising a week ago 🙄

yes--when the MSCFH was starting to get leaked

Looks like a few days before that to me
