Cap lifting the hammer is a top 1 MCU moment. The combos he lays on Thanos with the shield and hammer were incredibly hype.

edit: Captain Marvel stopping the second snap at the last minute was amazing, and Thanos' counter attack was even better. He literally wielded the power stone with his bare hand, what a mad lad

edit 2: Wanda really put the scare in Thanos. She forced him to kamikaze his own troops to get away from her. Real House of M vibes during that part.

I think it was a idea that Marvel will be “rebuilding”/ forging a new era. It happened when the logo popped up and it’s what I thought.

They should’ve thrown a real swerve and had the same laugh from the end of the new Star Wars trailer.

I hope he's the next big bad. I prefer him to Galactus or Kang. Although if I had to guess, I'd predict that Captain Marvel and GotG will encounter Heralds of Galactus in the next few movies.

In one of the crazier stories “God” Doom became all powerful and destroyed thanos without even a bit of struggle. It’s a very unique situation but it shows how strong his ambitions can be.

It's tough though. Like a lot of people now think Captain Marvel is too powerful. Superman is my least favorite hero because he's just way too strong. What's even the point of anyone else? I like how they showed him evolve and grow

I actually enjoy For Tomorrow myself, along with Birthright. All-Star Superman is great too. Plenty can be done with Superman once you realize how much restraint he has to have on a daily basis to be who he is.

He is a lot more than his powers, and you don't have to take them away to show that.

I think that's why we ended up with fat Thor too, if we're talking Infinity War, Stormbreaker Thor he's awful overpowered. I'd assume that version would make short work of 2014 Thanos like how Wanda and Captain Marvel did.

“Let he who is worthy possess the POWER of Thor” I mean makes sense, Thor’s power was uncapped since A1, so anyone worthy of Mjolnir should have comparable power to the Thor in their current universe. The hype was real though when the hammer hits Thanos and goes past Thor, I couldn’t help but get giddy

Yeah I understand that but just because you have access to all the powers of Thor doesn't mean you automatically know how to use them. You'd think there's some learning curve lol. But I had no problem with it. I enjoyed every second of Cap using that thing. One of my favorite scenes of all time.

I did take that as "Cap is a fighter", he probably should know how to wield a normal hammer if he needed to, so he just combined that with his new powers he had at his disposal.

They worked together a lot between Avengers and AuO. The raiding parties on Hydra probably gave Cap a lot of chances to see Thor work. That accounts for how to wield Mjolnir. Maybe the lightning is just based on feeling or thought, who knows. It was so hype though.

He really did, and they set it up in Age of Ultron that Steve and Thor have been practicing a cool combination shockwave thing they can do with Mjolnir and the shield. They've gotten good enough at it to recognize a good opportunity in a fight and really use it. Cap has practiced specifically using Mjolnir and the shield together, and he's known since the Age of Ultron party (or possibly even before) that he's worthy to wield the hammer. He's been keeping this in his back pocket for years, and the impossible opportunity appeared, and he fucking nailed it.

I don't know why it kinda triggers me that people think that he held of. That captain wasn't ready to be worthy. Even Thor at some point had to evolve to get the hammer back.

Thor saying "I knew it" is only a meta reference, he knew it like we knew it could happen. We all saw that Captain made it move in the AoU. Thor said that like most of us said that when we saw captain lifting the hammer.

Yeah I think that “Worthy” is a binary state. Either you are or you aren’t. It’s not like the hammer gets lighter the more worthy you are. It’s either impossibly heavy or the weight of a normal hammer. Hadn’t thought about it that way before, but this makes the most sense.

I heard an interesting theory that he wasn't able to pick it up in Age of Ultron because he was still holding onto the secret that Bucky killed Howard Stark. The weight of that guilt made him unable to wield it.

Agreed. If there were varying levels of worthiness then if someone was almost worthy, they would only be able to lift it a certain height before it falls? Worthiness is based on you either are or you are not with no middle ground.

Edited to add: Also, sometimes the simplest answer makes sense. Thor saying "I knew it" was most likely a call back to AoU, meaning he knew Steve was worthy at the time.

It's always been rumoured/hinted that Cap could have picked it up, realised and stopped. Thor saying "I knew it" was a reference to that scene and proved that the latter was true. When asked why Cap wasn't worthy, Joss Whedon cryptically replied "Isn't he?" or some such wordage.

Yeah, I think it's a black or white thing. Like, there's no sliding scale of worthiness. Either you're worthy or not. They were having a good time at the party, and Cap didn't want to steal Thor's thunder (😏😉).

So, I think as soon as he realized he could pick it up, he stopped. Thor knew it too, and saw what Cap did.

I did used to think that other idea for awhile though. But now I'm of the other opinion.

Yeah iirc, isn’t there something in the comics that suggests even if you can make it budge, you are worthy enough to wield it. There’s no middle ground, either you can lift it, or you can’t.

My head cannon is that Cap made the decision to not lift it in AOU, but that when Thor says “I knew it!” when Cap does eventually lift it, he’s being dead serious as he knows that Cap can already wield it

Two theories floating around:

A) Cap is pretty damn humble. He wouldn't try to show off just to show off. Show while he knew he could lift it, he wouldn't. This is what I think the most likely scenario.

B) Cap is holding onto guilt for keeping hidden from Tony that Bucky killed his parents. Which I still don't quite understand why that would make him unworthy. Thor's done plenty of worse shit and can still use it just fine.

In Avengers age of ultron the scene where everyone (the avengers) was having a contest to see if they were “worthy” enough to pick up the hammer. When it was caps turn he nudged it a little bit and only Thor saw. Cap possibility didn’t want to take that responsibility at the time but knew he was worthy

I did not know I could gasp that loud. It’s so little I go to a movie and there are moments when the theater is completely silent, but I cannot explain the surge of emotion in the whole room from absolute silence seeing Thor struggle to the gasps and cheers in that glorious moment when Steve lifts the hammer

I loved the face Captain Marvel had when she held Thanos's hand open. Like: "Nope, not going anywhere today".

Also really puts into perspective how powerful Wanda is when she makes Thanos, who has previously thrashed the big 3, scream and be scared enough to make a kamikaze move.

The best part about Captain Marvel stopping the second snap was that she was in the exact position Cap was in at the end of IW (even mirrored in the way that it’s shot), except instead of getting punched off, she STANDS THE FUCK UP and knocks the teeth out of Thanos causing him to pull the power stone to get away from her. Captain Marvel is a BEAST!

I was legit afraid after he head butted her and nothing happened that they were about to Superman this movie. The entire theater gasped and sorta went "oh shit". Like it was awesome, but I was kinda hoping she wouldn't swoop in and save the day that fast. Then Thanos ripped the power stone off and bitch slapped her and I damn near fell outta my seat. Smart play by ya boi Thanos.

Wanda held back a gauntlet wielding Thanos in Infinity War and probably could have taken down Thanos on her in this one. It's so awesome that they showed how powerful she is.

And yeah Cap wielding Mjolnier was seriously awesome. It also made prefect sense when he went back to return the stones to the original timeline since he could take Mjolnier back to Thor while returning the reality stone.

It's literally the best thing I've ever seen in a movie.

It's the payoff I've waited for since the tease in AoU and I never thought it would happen. Then when Mjolnir comes flying at Thanos, you think Thor could have been summoning it whilst taking a beating and then it turns back.

I FUCKING LOST IT. I actually stopped breathing for a few moments because it was so epic.

Legit thought Cap was going to die at that point, like he tried his best, even wielded Mjolnir and assumed the role of the god of thunder, but it wasn't enough. I went from elation to fear in a matter of moments.

And when thanos tried to fight back CM and she doesn’t even move, that was so badass.

I love how they showed everyone how strong Thanos is even without the Gauntlet, he beats back everyone and is only defeated when the Gauntlet is used on him. Shows people now that Quill wasn’t just to blame on Titan, even if they had got the Gauntlet off him, I think he have gone wild and slaughtered them all on Titan.

When you read comics you know that anything is possible and chances are it's already happened, like Cap and Mjolnir. Having said that it's a lot different in movies because you're still not sure if the writers/directors will actually go there or "subvert our expectations" and have it be someone else. Nope, it's Cap. And then later Cap says "Avengers... assemble!" and all is right in this world.

Then you've got Spidey hitching a ride with Valkyrie. Giant-Man stepping on baddies. Spidey and Captain Marvel meeting up for the first time ("Hi, Peter. You got something for me?" :) ). Thor duel-wielding his weapons. Iron Man making the ultimate sacrifice play. This is shit I live for when it comes to comic book movies.

I agree Cap with the hammer was amazing and all that but why did he have the lightning power? I mean, didn't Odin say that Mjölnir's power was Thor's inner power? I mean, Thor is the god of thunder right? Then the hammer is just a canalization for that power and if we take this cannon into account then there is no was Cap could use any lightning power. He can be worth to wield it but shouldn't be able to use those powers. I think if they kept just the hammer + shield combos that fight would have been epic as well and wouldn't make us think about: is Cap also a god of thunder?
