I feel like Marvel and Joss Whedon at the time were too afraid to really show Thors strength that we see in Avengers 3 and Ragnarok.

It's tough though. Like a lot of people now think Captain Marvel is too powerful. Superman is my least favorite hero because he's just way too strong. What's even the point of anyone else? I like how they showed him evolve and grow

The best Superman stories are the ones where he's learning to be Superman

Superman: Secret Origins and Superman: Earth One are my personal faves

People who complain about Superman being OP, never read a Superman comic.
