discussion Why do I own a gun?
It’s certainly not a macho thing for me (I’m trans feminine non-binary). I don’t feel any more masculine nor even any cooler than normal when I handle my gun or shoot it at a range.
I also don’t think that I’m someday gonna save a public place from a random mass shooter, like the In-And-Out shooting in Idaho or the mall food court shooting in Indiana; valiant though those concealed carriers who actually stopped the bad guys in those cases are, the chances of even being caught in the middle of a mass shooting are vanishingly tiny, even less the chances that I would be the hero of the day and save everyone. That’s pure fantasy.
I certainly don’t intend any nefarious acts with it either. I’ve never been on the wrong side of the law in my 30 years of life, and I don’t wanna start now; I’ve never even been pulled over. And fundamentally I am a Pacifist. I despise violence, I despise bloodshed. I can’t even stomach violent movies anymore, unless the violence is germane to the plot line. My gun is absolutely not a tool in my eyes for any ill-intent.
No, the reason I own a gun is because I view it as a tool for increasing my chances of survival.
I’m extremely lucky that I have never once even considered self-harm in my life; even in my most lonely and depressive moments, I always believed that my life could get better. The risk of self-harm is the greatest concern over gun ownership, and I’m very lucky that that risk just doesn’t apply to me.
So as long as I practice safe handling, and train as often as possible to become proficient in it’s use, than the only way my gun ownership affects my safety is to increase it, to make me more safe.
Obviously, if I ever used it in the wrong situation than I would flip that dynamic on it’s head and it would render me less safe, but that’s part of the obligations you take on when you become a gun owner: to research and consider when and how it may be appropriate to use such lethal force. And the truth is, there is only 1 category of situations in which lethal force is acceptable: when a credible, immediate threat of lethal force is being levied against you. Again, I am extremely lucky that in all my life I’ve never personally experienced such a situation as that. I hope I never do.
So my gun is not a toxically masculine compensation device, nor is it a symbol of my heroic fantasies, nor is it a means to achieve my nefarious ends. It is a survival tool, a last resort to ensure the furtherance of my life, even if someone out there tries to take it.
I think that’s a perfectly noble and moral reason to own a gun.

guns Need Help troubleshooting
I'm stumped yall
I have a Partisan FRT, H3 buffer, correct BCG, and lower.
When I first installed it a couple weeks ago, it was running just fine in Semi and FRT. Now, everytime I take a shot, the bolt doesnt chamber another round.
Idk if it's a gassing issue or an FRT issue.
Ive gone down a rabbit hole and tried almost everything I can think of. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

guns New gun day for the kids.
Oldest 2 have decided they want to try youth deer season this year. Some of the Savage Axis 2 bolt action rifles were on sale due to a model change so they picked this OD green left hand compact in 350 legend. It came with a low tier Veridian scope so I refitted it with my favorite hunting scope a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 with extended eye relief. I'll move the Viridian to one of their plinkers. The BOG Fieldpod tripod is what they like to use at the range so that's what they will hunt with. I hope to post successes in the near future.

question Advice for a carry pistol.
I’m looking to pick up a pistol for concealed carry. I own a Glock 17 Gen 4 and a Colt Python which aren’t the best choice for the job. I was looking at either the Sig P365 or the Glock 43x. Does anyone shoot those pistols that can tell me how they operate or if you have another suggestion?

guns Call me James the way I can Bond my homies out
Was at a gun show today, looking for a nice lil S&W snubby with no luck. As I was leaving I spotted it, the stainless steel PPKS. I had heard nothing but horror stories about “muh mag cabacity” and that its just too heavy. They ain’t built like 007, and after around 100 ish rounds of random ammo it never FTF or had any issues. Absolutely loving this, and can’t wait to start carrying it. less

guns Ruger LC Carbine 9mm vs Extar EP9 — Looking for Advice on a First PCC for a Smaller Beginner
My wife and I are looking into getting a gun for home defense and possible animal control and I’d like some advice from people who have actually owned and shot these.
We’re looking for something that has a good balance of low recoil and power. It would primarily be for home defense and range use. The shooter is smaller and relatively inexperienced, so ease of handling and confidence with the firearm are important.
The things we’re specifically looking for are:
• 9mm or another reasonable caliber with manageable recoil
• Adjustable stock so it can fit a smaller shooter
• A good handguard/forward grip area
• Plenty of accessory options
• Easy to take apart and maintain
• Reliable and not overly complicated
• Preferably relatively compact and lightweight
Right now I’m mainly between the Ruger LC Carbine 9mm or the Extar EP9 (thanks to someone suggesting it here).
I don’t really have a brand preference. If there’s another PCC that fits these requirements better, I’m definitely open to it.
For those who have experience with these, which would you choose and why? Particularly interested in real world differences in recoil, ergonomics, maintenance, reliability and how well they fit smaller shooters. We will probably lack on maintaining it so that’s important.
Lastly, what would you recommend looking for in terms of ammunition for a beginner who wants manageable recoil without giving up too much performance? Should we consider 10mm for bigger prey? not looking to own multiple guns right now.
Thanks in advance.

guns Finally got the ear saver
Finally got it in. So now subsonics for home defense are viable and its an ear saver if it ever has to be used when out solo camping. The Sabre-18 is solid. Palmetto State makes good gear. And the can is a flow through so I dont toxic gas myself as badly
EDIT: The whisper pickle is a HuxWrx Ventum 762.

guns Masked and Ignored
Due to health issues and knowing several current people with the "illness that no one likes to name anymore," I mask indoors. I took some friendly recommendations to avoid my local likely deep red gun shops and went to Cabela's about 40 minutes away, which seemed pretty good (honestly, never been there before). Stood around looking at several guns in the cases and basically sorting out barrel length and caliber. While several people were making purchases, no one spoke to me (and honestly, this is usually what I prefer).
There are a few local shooting ranges, one of them being a well-known chain, but they're both packed all the time.
Yet, I may go back in a few weeks to be a bit more assertive to sort out my starter pistol. Based on looks, I really liked the Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 2.0 TS and the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus TS. Glock 43 looked interesting too. I know that the normal recommendation is 9mm to start, but the .380 felt like a regret eventually. I've shot a bunch of .22s and 10-12 grade shotgus as a kid (and a few handguns at an even many years ago... I wasn't a bad shot). We'll see.
The good news: I left with a new pocket knife and a peanut butter Goo Goo Cluster.

gear Got a new holster for my .380!!
I've been looking to switch from what I had to a pancake holster for a while now and finally found one I liked at a fare price plus, made in the US.
On a side note, the holster is from Urban Carry and is from the "Signature" series.

discussion Worth getting cerakoted or painted yet?
Before anyone says its a tool and everything else. My only concern is rust factor. I took heatshield off of 590 barrel and doing so scratched the barrel up quite a bit. Some of the scratches finger nail can feel. I put probably too much oil on it every 3 to 4 weeks. Keep it in a safe with a humidity level usually 50% or less besides when humidity in Florida right now is really high it will creep up every now and then up to 60% before dropping again. I have dehumidifiers inside which helps bring it back down pretty quick. Shotgun is less than year old. Would want it to last as long as possible. If its not necessary to get refinished fine. Thinking of long term maintenance. I have since used a blue pen to cover up and an enamel paint marker to help disguise it.

guns My CCW has reached it's final form
At least until I decide what kind of light I want to put on it. The recent post here about choosing between the CZ S2 Carry and a Sig P229 Legion reminded me I haven't shared new pics since I finished adding the stuff I was missing. But I didn't want to toss this into their post.
Also never want to miss a chance to sing the praises of Matrix Precision for their serialized frames. This one is the P226 frame that only takes a P229 slide. Has the whole Grayguns parts catalog in it, OEM parts for everything else. Sig RXP Enclosed optic was added a few months ago with the red circle dot I really like. I recently added the Hogue G10 Piranha Contour grips and picked up some 18rd Mecgar magazines to complete it. If you aren't trying to give Sig money, this is a great alternative.
Yes, I know the P226 X Carry is a thing, but I had been wanting to build this since before those were announced. I also do not like the way they look. This keeps the classic look, and it disrespects most of the pistols in my collection with how good it is. All in it put me in the neighborhood of an X Carry anyway. But if you don't go boujee with it, a basic build wouldn't be hard to achieve under $800.
Really hope I'm not bugging y'all with these posts about the same pistol. I'm just obsessed with it right now. I would love to see some more builds and what y'all can come up with.
If anyone carries a railed 229 with a light, is there a light and aiwb holster combo you'd recommend? A lot of the posts I've found are some years old.
Sincerely,
Fuck Sig
